HOW TO INSTALL CARPET TILES

HAUS carpet tiles are available in various colours, structures and designs – which means, the creative possibilities are endless! One of the best things about HAUS carpet tiles is the ease and flexibility with which they can be installed or replaced. They’re also more cost-effective, thanks to less cutting loss compared to that of fitted carpets or other floor coverings. For optimal results, though, installing your luxury carpet tiles correctly is an absolute must, so please follow the instructions carefully.

www.hertexhaus.co.za

PREPARATION Packaging Each box contains 3m² or 5m² worth of carpet tiles. Open the cases on the top or on the side and leave the tiles for at least 24 hours to get acclimatised. Inspection The quality, colour and batch number are detailed on each box. This information, together with the arrow that indicates the pile direction, can also be found on the underside of each carpet tile. For an even result, it is important to use tiles from the same batch in the same room. So check the material before installing the tiles. Environmental conditions While waiting to install the tiles, store them in a closed room where the temperature is between 15ºC and 25ºC, and the relative humidity is 60%. Substrate HAUS carpet tiles can be installed on any floor provided that the floor is dry, clean, greaseproof, sturdy and even. Residues of previous floor coverings must be removed. The substrate must be stabilised and dry, and must comply with the requirements of national construction standards. The temperature of the substrate must be between 10ºC and 25ºC, and the humidity may not exceed 5%. Underfloor heating For rooms with underfloor heating, the heating system must be switched off at least 24 hours before the carpet tiles are installed. It can be gradually brought back up to temperature (5ºC a day) 48 hours after the carpet tiles have been installed. Make sure that the heating circuit is completely waterproof.

INSTALLATION OF CARPET TILES Installation No permanent gluing is needed to install the tiles; we recommend using an anti-slip or semi-permanent glue as it has a lasting, non-hardening adhesive effect once dry. Ensure that the carpet tiles are placed tightly against each other; the backing must fit closely and the piles may not be squeezed. If the carpet tiles are pressed too tightly, lumps and warps can occur. It’s best to start from the door opening. A complete tile should be installed at the door opening, continuing further until the middle of the room, parallel to the main wall. This midpoint serves as the point of departure for the subsequent step-by-step installation of tiles. Pile direction An arrow on the underside of the tile indicates the pile direction:

One way: The carpet tiles are installed in the same direction to create a uniform floor covering. Lay the Comfy and Bouclé designs using this pile direction.

Draughtboard: The arrow on the underside of the tile is alternately turned 90º. This is the recommended pile direction for Bouclé designs.

Ashlar: Each tile is horizontally shifted half a row so that four corner points never coincide. This is the recommended pile direction for Timber.

Cutting the tiles To finish the room, the carpet tiles will probably need to be cut to measure using a Stanley knife. Carpet tiles are cut on the backing.

Place Tile B to be cut precisely on Tile A. Use an extra tile (C). Push the latter up to the wall over Tile B.

Now indicate on Tile B where you need to cut.

Finally, install the cut Tile B in the space between the wall and Tile A.

Floor protection after installation Ensure that the just-installed carpet tiles are sufficiently protected if other workers still need to use the room. Do not place any furniture on the floor during installation. Move heavy furniture on hardboard plates to prevent the carpet being damaged. Conditions The HAUS guarantee may no longer apply if the installation instructions have not been followed. HAUS shall not be held liable for errors resulting from unprofessional installation. The guarantee applies only if the carpet is used under normal circumstances (correct installation and maintenance).
