HOW TO CLEAN CAREFREE PERFORMANCE FABRIC
CAREFREE fabric features various protective properties, making light work of cleaning. It is, however, important to treat spills and stains promptly.
STEP 1
Remove excess dirt or liquid with a piece of paper towel. If the stain has already dried, gently brush off any excess residue.
STEP 2
Using a spray bottle, dampen the stain slightly with clean water, and rub gently with a soft cloth to remove the stain.
STEP 3
Pat dry with a clean piece of paper towel.
FOR MORE STUBBORN STAINS LIKE TOMATO SAUCE, CHOCOLATE, FRUIT OR INK:
STEP 1

Only use mild, colourless detergent and a soft cloth. We recommend using pure glycerine soap and a microfibre cloth.

BUILT-IN DURABILITY
Inherent properties in the yarn do not wash out.
CAREFREE RANGES WITH INHERENT YARN
Hertex has only one range with easy-to-clean properties that are inherent in the yarn – the Vivalife brand.
Vivalife is made of 100 % Harmolan polypropylene, a manmade yarn with easy-clean properties. Harmolan yarn is considered eco-friendly because:
• No water is used to produce the fibres, which are used to spin the yarn
• No chemicals are used to colour the yarn
FINISHES
Chemical finishes are added to the fabric and wash out over time. The finishes used in CAREFREE ranges are applied in two ways: with an immersion bath or they are sprayed on. Chemical finishes have different brand names; this is based on the name of the company that developed the chemicals, such as Everklean.
CAREFREE RANGES THAT FEATURE THE IMMERSION BATH APPLICATION
With the immersion bath method, chemicals are applied by soaking the fabric in a bath to produce a longer-lasting finish. The fabric is drawn mechanically through the bath at a predetermined speed to allow the chemicals to be absorbed. The finish can last anywhere between 20 and 50 washes, depending on the type of chemicals used. The following ranges feature such a finish:

• Scandi – Finx finish will last longer
CAREFREE RANGES THAT FEATURE A SPRAYED-ON FINISH
Easy-clean chemicals are sprayed onto the fabric. While this process is more affordable, it does not last as long as fabric finished with the immersion bath method. The finish usually lasts about three to five washes, depending on the type of chemicals used. The following ranges feature such a finish:

A GUIDE TO PERFORMANCE FABRIC BADGES
EASY TO CLEAN
CAREFREE products feature a treatment that is applied to either the yarn prior to weaving or to the surface of the fabric, creating a barrier for spills and dirt.
When cleaning the surface of the fabric, remove any remaining residue if possible. Apply water and blot immediately with a clean white cloth or a white paper towel; repeat this process until the residue is no longer visible on the cloth or towel. For tougher stains, apply more water to the affected area or use a mild detergent like a bar of soap that has no colourants. Then, using circular motions, rub gently with a white cloth. Repeat this process until there is no longer any soap or water residue. For upholstery, avoid soaking the fabric and the underlying sponge with water, as this can cause mould and odours.
OUTDOOR
Outdoor fabrics are made from fibres such as polyester, acrylic or olefin/polypropylene. The fibres are either solution-dyed for additional protection against the elements or undergo treatments to guard against water, stains, mildew and UV light. A stain-resistant finish is a water-based treatment that gives fabric water- and oil-repellent properties, and offers protection against spills and stains. The finish penetrates the fabric and forms an invisible, durable shield around each fibre.
“Full outdoor” vs “undercover patio” use: Fabric that has a higherthan- average lightfastness of between 6 and 7 is suitable for sunny areas and undercover outdoor areas. Those with a lightfastness of between 7 and 8 are suitable for uncovered open-air use.
EARTH FRIENDLY
Earth-friendly fabric is made of sustainable material that comes from resources such as sustainably grown fibre crops or recycled material. The manufacturing process also determines the sustainability of a fabric. The most popular eco-friendly fabrics are bamboo, industrial hemp, recycled polyester, wool, Tencel, soy cashmere/silk and sustainable cotton.

ANTI-BACTERIAL & ANTI-MICROBIAL
Anti-bacterial and anti-microbial fabric is treated or infused with one or several of a variety of substances to keep microbes such as bacteria, fungi and viruses from flourishing within its fibres. This is particularly important as the porous surfaces of textiles tend to hold moisture and heat. Anti-microbial fabric is commonly used in the healthcare sector, primarily for bed dressings, drapery and gowns, to avoid the contamination of textiles and the continuous need to replace them.
STAIN RESISTANT
Stain-resistant fabric prevents liquids from being absorbed and fine particles from adhering to them. Stain resistance can be accomplished by using the natural properties of different fibres (some being more stain resistant than others) or by applying stain-resistant coatings.
FLAME RETARDANT
Flame retardants are chemicals that are applied to fabric to inhibit or suppress the combustion process. They interfere with combustion at various stages of the process: during heating, decomposition, ignition and flame spread.
