RUG SIZE GUIDE

When it comes to selecting rugs, the “bigger is better” philosophy is a safe bet for a luxurious look. Just make sure to leave at least 30cm of floor space around the perimeter of your rug to avoid the appearance of wall-to-wall carpeting.

GUIDELINES FOR MEASUREMENTS CURTAIN

STEP 1: Width of curtain rail or window x 2,5m (average fullness) ÷ width of desired fabric = number of curtain drops

Example: 250cm x 2,5m ÷ 140cm = 4,46 curtain drops (round off the number to 5)

STEP 2: Finished length of curtain + 25cm seam x number of curtain drops (determined in Step 1) = amount of fabric needed

Example: 235cm + 25cm x 5 = 1 300cm (13m needed)

The average fullness of the curtain depends on which heading (taped or eyelet, for example) is used. Rounding off the number of curtain drops required ensures that you have a fuller set of curtains.

PATTERN REPEATS

STEP 1: Width of curtain track or window x 2,5m (average fullness) ÷ width of desired fabric = number of curtain drops

Example: 250cm x 2,5m ÷ 140cm = 4,46 curtain drops (round off the number to 5)

STEP 2: Finished length of curtain + 25cm seam ÷ length of pattern repeat = number of curtain drops

Example: (250cm + 2,5m) ÷ 64cm = 4,3 repeats per drop (round off the number to 5)

STEP 3: Number of repeats per drop x length of pattern repeat = new cut length

Example: 5 x 64cm = 320cm per drop

STEP 4: Number of drops x new cut length = total fabric needed

Example: 5 x 320cm = 1 600cm (16m needed)

ROMAN BLINDS

STEP 1: Width of rail or window x 2 widths of fabric; round off to the nearest full number = number of widths needed

STEP 2: Final drop measurement + hem allowances (minimum 15cm)

STEP 3: Number of widths (Step 1) x final drop (Step 2) = total required
