The Life Saving Light

Hiding away & close to the quaint Town of 1770 (Seventeen Seventy), is the Bustard Head Lightstation. This is a must-see destination that offers visitors a unique & intriguing glimpse into Australia's maritime history. Built in 1868, it’s one of the oldest operating lighthouses in QLD & stands at a towering 16m tall. The lighthouse has witnessed a significant amount of history, including the tragic shipwrecks, devastating fire & unsolved mysteries that are still puzzled over to this very day Visitors can access the Bustard Head Lightstation via 1770 LARC! Tours, on their full day Paradise Tour. This excursion not only includes a guided tour through the lightstation and the keeper’s cottage turned museum, but also an exclusive climb to the top of the lighthouse tower & balcony . Head Back In Time At The Village

A treasure trove of history & memorabiliaexpect to take at least two hours to see it. Be amazed at the size of our Village with 27 buildings housing 37 displays.

Our new Maritime display is now open. Later this year, 2023, we will be opening a special K’Gari (Fraser Island) display, featuring the Caterpillar tractor & Jinker used for log moving from 1935 ‘til 1994.

TREADLE the 100-year-old lathe & help make your own wooden souvenir. Be apart of the corn-shelling demonstration or help make your own souvenir piece of sisal rope, again using 100-year-old machinery.

Bring along bread, sauce & sausages and use the free barbecue. Hot water available for tea/coffee.

The Historical Village & Museum is open all school & public holidays except Good Friday & Christmas Day. Tour groups are always welcome.

A dedicated band of volunteers run the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary at 31 Mungar Road Maryborough

At the sanctuary you can pat a kangaroo, howl with the dingoes, laugh with the kookaburras and much more.

Sally the Little Corella will greet you and you can even interact with the dingoes. Other activities include kangaroo and wallaby feeding, where you can see joey’s in their mothers pouches. mire their colourful Australian birds, or be entertained y the cockatoos antics.
