“The Faith of our Founding Fore-Fathers”
August Volcik was one of the founding members of Victory New Testament Fellowship in Dallas, TX. His parents migrated here years ago from Czechoslovakia, August being the eldest of the children. His mom was a catholic and his dad was Presbyterian. She actually thought August could not be saved because he was not a catholic. They did read the Bible but due to their diverse denominational affiliations, never attended services. Now when August met his wife, she was an old Pentecostal believer and he would take her and their three children to church, drop them off and return to pick them up. He did not ever attend anything other than a movie or something else while they were in the house of worship. Mr. Volcik was a hard-working man, a builder as well as other enterprises. He was self employed in the Dallas, TX area and busy at work each day. This was a congested area and one of the local policemen would stop by and visit with him regularly. The policeman began to talk to him about church and suggested they attend together. August was quick to proudly share that his wife and family were regular church goers, but he personally did not attend. The friendly policeman was able to get August to agree to attend church with him, but they could not decide which one to go. There was a revival close
by, so they decided to go there. I was seventeen and it was the first time I had ever seen my Dad go to church except for funerals. We all sat together as a family that night in that revival as the preacher preached. When he gave the altar call, my dad was the first one to the front and he got gloriously saved! When we got home that evening, Dad asked Mom where her Bible was and he began to read it. When I say read it, I mean he devoured it reading through it completely. The revival continued the next 30 days and so did Dad. He was there every night. Completed his Bible from Genesis to Revelation within that time and was beginning to quickly mature in the spirit. He soon became a minister and then a Pastor. He founded Frontier Revival Center which is still growing today in Texas. Dad was always a worker, personally and now spiritually. He had a business that made seat covers for cars although he grew up as a builder and carpenter. A friend asked him to help with building his house. Dad agreed and went there on a Saturday to help, about a two-hour drive from his own residence. Since it was a Saturday and he was a pastor that needed to prepare for soon coming Sunday morning, he was hurrying to finish and make the drive home. In his haste he used a large power saw to trim a small board and the board
slipped cutting off three of his fingers on his right hand. Being the man of faith that he was, he quickly commanded the blood to stop and picked up the fingers, wrapped his hand in a handkerchief, and started the two-hour drive home. He is right handed, it was his right hand that was injured, and he was driving a manual transmission car! Arriving home he called to me and told me not to tell Mom anything as he did not want to alarm her. Then he handed me the three severed fingers and proceeded to take the handkerchief off his hand. I asked what do I do Dad? He said wrap it up. He took the fingers and placed them back on his hand and instructed me to tape them each with two pieces of tape, top and bottom. I did as instructed as best I could in the situation. Our neighbor asked him when he was going to take the tape and bandage off and he said in three days. I remember it well, we were with the church folks on the third day and dad proceeded to remove the tape from the fingers. Glory to God, the tape came off, but the fingers stayed on with the whole church watching. He immediately began using his hand and fingers. There was normal feeling in them with no permanent damage. He carried on life as usual knowing His God is greater than anything or anyone. Three months later he helped move a very heavy air con-

He was a great man of faith and a believer in prayer. He would eagerly pray for the sick when called upon. I remember when he prayed for a lady in prison whom the doctors had removed part of her lung. My Aunt asked Dad to go with her to the prison to pray for this lady and he agreed. It came time for him to offer a prayer for her, Pastor Volcik walked over to her, reached out his hand toward her and said, “Be made whole!”. My Aunt was upset with this as she wanted him to pray. He told her, “it is done”. The next Tuesday he received a call form the lady in prison excitedly exclaiming to him that the doctors had checked her and everything was now perfect. Even the part of her lung that had been removed was now restored!!! Jesus Christ healed her and not only healed her but made her whole! This was the way Dad lived. He was a might man of faith never having been admitted to a hospital nor had any form of surgery. The Lord Jesus was his physician. He believed it and he lived it. Time came when he told his congregation that he was going on a long journey for an extended time. He told them, “while I am gone, she, my daughter, Alta, will speak my words to you”.

August Volcik
Three months later he was working one Saturday in my yard right before Father’s Day. My husband and I lived right next door to Dad and Mom. I was cleaning the kitchen after Mom had cooked breakfast and left for an appointment to get her hair done. Dad had come back into the house and was playing with his two-yearold granddaughter in the other room. He dropped to the floor and was gone in an instant. The granddaughter asked me what happened to Paw Paw. I explained to that twoyear-old little girl that Paw Paw had gone to heaven and we will go see him one day. She said ok and rested in that. She is thirty-seven years old at the writing of this testimony. The hospital was unable to determine the cause of death and wanted to keep my Dad. I knew he did not want to be a hospital and never had been, so I asked the funeral director to see what he could do. He was
able to get him out within a couple hours. Pastor Skelton, also a founder of Victory New Testament Fellowship International, the Father of Pastor Larry Skelton, was at the funeral and he spoke to Sister Alta direction from the Lord that she was to pick up where Pastor Volcik had left off. She was to take over the pastorate of his church, Frontier Revival Center. I am still fulfilling that prophecy today. Having begun in the homeless area of Dallas, TX, today it is a thriving congregation located at 109 Elam Road, Balch Springs, TX. You would be welcome to stop ion and say hello.
