Hello! I’m Heshvin Vasudevan and this is my graphic design portfolio comprising of all the best work that I have done throughout my years at The One Academy. To describe myself in a few words, I am a very functional person and it spills onto my design as well. The design has to be functional and fulfill it’s purpose before it is visually styled to be appealing. But the scale is currently tipped towards being functional but I am striving to find the balance between the two.
6 Clove Hall is a privately-owned Edwardian Anglo-Malay bungalow set in an oasis of tropical gardens in Georgetown, Penang. The bungalow is a restored bungalow that preserves the feel from the time it was built, housing local antiques, artworks and furnishing. The grounds have been transformed into a sultry tropical garden, verdant with spice trees, Frangipanis and Macarthur palms. A tranquil green-tiled pool

fringed with ginger bushes is nestled into it.

created to match the language of the hotel that was a clean white with vintage furniture and decorations that had a balance of elegance and styling. Repetition of pattern is a prevalent design element that one would notice once stepping into Clove Hall. Thus it was a supporting element that was used to compliment and complete the identity. 1

12 Possibly the heart of the city’s performing arts community, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) almost always has something playing; be it a play, musical, dance or a music showcase. It houses a huge number of studios and theaters, an academy that runs workshops and seminars, cafes and

restaurants as well as a small performing arts library.

KLPac
Branding
The concept for the redesign of the KLPAC identity was done with the idea that it was a space to express. This idea struck after long research and visits to KLPAC which materialized in the understanding that the main target audience is not the public, but it was to the performers and people likewise who utilized the space that KLPAC provides. The logo was created with this in mind utilizing the unique shape of the KLPAC building to express the space. The extension of the identity was to take the space and have it as an outline to house the contents.

16 This is one of the exciting projects we had to accomplish in our final years of college. The objective was to create a book that had an interesting subject in a particular country. It was not restricted to anything at all. It could be something as simple as food, festivals or something

complicated such as lady-boys or religion.

Graffiti was my chosen subject to promote Malaysia. The street is our canvas was the title as the contents of this book was made up mostly of graffiti artist’s thoughts on graffiti in Malaysia, as an art form and also on a more personal note, why do they do what they do. The idea of the book came about as I got to learn and understand these artist. They looked like a regular joe, a simple person and has a day job (black cover) but the perception takes a drastic change when you give them a spray can. A array striking colors bursts out of their personalities onto the empty wall.

22 A for Avenir is a type specimen book. The book was done to compliment not only Avenir but the type itself. The idea of the book is to showcase each individual letter for the beauty in it’s masterful creation and cleverly link it to a subject relating to that letter. This book goes through the history of Avenir, how it’s related to modern type and showcasing the typeface in

it’s purest form.

We know how delicious duck and frog meat can be when it is cooked perfectly. Thus behind glorious food is the title of a photographic series of these meats before they wind up on the plate. These pictures received mixed messages from the people who have viewed it as it is a very subjective photo series. Some are grossed out by these pictures, some feel pitiful for these animals while others are undisturbed as they

are only involved in the final process, eating.

Zoo Negara
Advertising
The objective of the advertising campaign is to create excitement and to bring in the crowd to Zoo Negara. The campaign started off with the idea of making people excited about the animals in the zoo. After many trial and errors, the technique of match and dissolve was picked as it fit the main idea. Amazing facts about these animals were used with the match and dissolve that creates a guessing game for the audience to figure out the what animal it is.

For a very interesting subject, I had come up with a very interesting solution. We had to pick a random subject and make it into a business. Godfather was my pick on how to do business. I am gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse! Researched showed that the mafia always wore suits and dressed elegantly, even though the profession was not so elegant, and using this the idea of having a suit as the book sleeve came about.
