HALF HOLLOW HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT 2017 SUMMER DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM Location: High School East July 14, 2017 – August 4, 2017 To enroll, students must be 16 years old and possess a valid New York State Learner’s permit or Junior License prior to Monday, June 19, 2017. This program is open to incoming seniors and juniors only. **There will be a mandatory parent /student meeting on Monday, July 10, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the High School East Lecture Hall. Lecture and driving times will be assigned at this meeting. Registration is based on the student’s date of birth.
Dates This course begins on Friday, July 14, 2017, and runs until Friday, August 4, 2017. Classes meet Monday through Friday. Cars meet Monday - Saturday. Please check all dates listed in this application before signing up for the program.
Cost The cost of this program is $500.00. The full amount is required with the completed application no later than June 19, 2017. Credit cards, personal checks and cash will not be accepted. Only money orders will be accepted and should be made out to: HALF HOLLOW HILLS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT There are no refunds once classes begin on July 14, 2017.
Lecture Classes All lecture classes are 90 minutes long. Absences and lateness will not be permitted. Homework and other assignments are part of the student’s responsibility. Students must maintain a passing average on all tests and quizzes. An average of 70% must be maintained to receive your final certificates.
Driving Classes Students will drive and observe for 90 minutes each day in car class. Vehicles will be leaving school grounds promptly and therefore lateness will not be permitted. The use of electronic devices is prohibited throughout the driving session.
Absences & Make-up Classes The New York State Education Department guidelines for Driver and Traffic Safety Education require a minimum of 24 hours of classroom lecture and 24 hours of laboratory (driving) instruction. This will include at least 6 hours of required driving for each student. Therefore, students must attend all 48 hours of the program to receive the MV-285 form (certificate of completion). Students are allowed 1 make-up class for the summer program. Students who miss more than 1 class will not receive credit. All missed classes must be made up.
Applications and Registration All applications must be submitted to Room 104 at the Fran Greenspan Administration Center, 525 Half Hollow Road, by 12:00 p.m. on June 19, 2017, to be considered for the program. Applications are to be filled out completely and include: A clear copy of the NYS Learner’s Permit or Junior License Signed Parent Contract Form Payment (stapled to application).

Important Information All students must maintain at least a 70% average for both lecture and driving classes. These grades are not combined. Lecture & Driving Sessions All schedules will be chosen at the MANDATORY PARENT MEETING ON Monday, JULY 10, 2017, from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Anyone not in attendance will be placed at the end of the night with spaces that are still available.
