HALF HOLLOW HILLS SUMMER PROGRAM 2019 Drivers’ Education Summer Program @ High School West July 8, 2019 – July 31, 2019 *Space is limited to 80 participants* To enroll, students must be 16 years old and possess a valid New York State Learner’s permit or Junior License prior to Wednesday, June 12, 2019. This program is open to incoming Seniors and Juniors only. There will be a mandatory parent /student meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the High School West Auditorium. Lecture and driving times will be assigned at this meeting. Registration is based on student’s birth order only. Any outside conflicts are the student’s responsibility, not the Drivers Education program.
Dates This course begins on Monday, July 8. 2019, and runs until Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Classes meet each day Monday – Friday. Please check all dates listed in this application before signing up for the program.
Cost The cost of this program is $500.00. The full amount is required with the completed application no later than June 12, 2019. Credit cards, personal checks and/or cash will NOT be accepted. Only money orders will be accepted and should be made payable to the HALF HOLLOW HILLS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT There are no refunds after July 5, 2019.
Lecture Classes All lecture classes are 90 minutes each day (Monday through Friday). Absences and lateness are not be permitted. Homework and other assignments are the student’s responsibility. Students must maintain a passing average on all tests and quizzes. An average of 65% must be maintained to receive your final certificates.
Driving Classes Students will drive and observe for 90 minutes each day (Monday – Saturday). Vehicles will be leaving school grounds promptly and lateness will not be permitted. The use of electronic devices is prohibited throughout the driving session.
Absences & Make-up Classes The New York State Education Department guidelines, for Driver and Traffic Safety Education, require a minimum of 24 hours of classroom lecture and 24 hours of laboratory (driving) instruction. This will include at least 6 hours of required driving for each student. To complete this requirement, students must attend all 48 hours of the program to receive the MV-285 form (certificate of completion). Students are allowed one make-up class for the summer program. Students who miss more than one class will be dropped. All missed classes must be made up.
Applications and Registration All applications must be submitted to Lisa Filippi in Room 104 at the Manasquan School by 10:00 a.m. on June 12, 2019, to be considered for the program. Applications must be filled out completely and include: A clear copy of the NYS Learner’s Permit or Junior License Signed Parent Contract Form Payment Registration is based on student’s birth order only. Any outside conflicts are the student’s responsibility, not the Drivers Education program.

Important Information All students must maintain at least a 65% average for both lecture and driving classes. These grades are not combined. Lecture & Driving Sessions All schedules will be chosen at the MANDATORY PARENT MEETING ON TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 2019, AT PARENT/STUDENT MANDATORY MEETING FROM 6:30 P.M. TO 8:30 P.M.
