OCTOBER AES Engineers Scholarship The AES Engineers Scholarship is awarded on the basis of character. Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors. Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1,000 words, in answer to the following question: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? The Horatio Alger New York Scholarship Program The Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The Horatio Alger program seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income). Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation This scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive a $20,000 scholarship. National Eagle Scout Association Scholarship NESA Academic Scholarships Requirements NESA academic scholarships are based on school and Scouting participation, academic performance, and financial need. All applicants must be members of the National Eagle Scout Association to receive a scholarship.

The Mabel and Lawrence S. Cooke scholarships ($25,000 - $48,000) - Awarded based on school and Scouting participation, academic performance, and financial need. Applicants must meet the minimum SAT or ACT score to apply  NESA STEM scholarship ($50,000) - Awarded to one applicant annually who has chosen to pursue a career in a STEM-related field. Applicants for the STEM scholarship who are not selected will automatically be considered for a Cooke scholarship worth $25,000 - $48,000 each NESA Merit Scholarship Requirements Eagle Scouts may apply for the NESA merit scholarships beginning in their senior year of high school and may continue applying every year up till the junior year in college. The Voice of Democracy Program: Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Open to students in grades 9-12, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories. Ron Brown Scholarship: Ron Brown Scholar Program The Ron Brown Scholars Program competitively awards Ron Brown Scholars four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 per year) to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship. The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program (HYSP): University of Notre Dame This program is the first merit-based scholarship program at the University of Notre Dame. The program is also a leadership development program, engaging scholars throughout the academic year and summer. Notre Dame Undergraduate Admissions will identify outstanding candidates for the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program from the entire pool of Restrictive Early Action admitted students (exceptional Regular Decision candidates will also be considered, if they submit a complete an application by January 1). Candidates selected by Admissions for HYSP consideration will be invited to submit an HYSP supplemental application in January. When semifinalists are determined from that pool (late February), HYSP will select finalists to come to campus to interview for HYSP in late March. Prudential Spirit of Community Award: National Association of Secondary School Principals Prudential Spirit of Community Award program is based exclusively on volunteer community service. In the past students have been recognized for making a difference and inspiring others to consider how they might contribute to their communities. Students must have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service within the last year.  Local Honorees: Receive a certificate of achievement from their schools or organization. Doctors of Tomorrow Scholarship Program: Suffolk Academy of Medicine 4 Half Hollow Hills High School West Scholarship Board Last Updated: January 22, 2019


The Doctors of Tomorrow Program is a county-wide student educational program sponsored by the Suffolk Academy of Medicine, to provide personal, first-hand, encouraging information on what it takes to become a doctor. The program consists of an Introductory Symposium, an Essay Contest, and A Day with a Doctor. To be eligible for ANY of these awards you must participate in all of the listed events. Three $1,000 scholarships are paid to the medical school of the winning recipients upon registration. The selection of the best all-around candidates in Suffolk County and their alternates are based upon: Interest in Medicine, Extra-Curricular Activities, Academic Ability, Essay, and the “Day with a Doctor” Physician’s Evaluation. The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program This scholarship program is specifically for students planning to attend either Duke University or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Young leaders chosen for this program will receive a four-year scholarship (including undergraduate tuition, mandatory fees, room and board), unique access to academic and extracurricular offerings, three summers of domestic and international experiences, customized leadership and professional development opportunities and extensive community of Robertson Scholars, alumni, and staff. The application process for this scholarship is separate from the college application process set by Duke University and UNC at Chapel Hill. Most Valuable Student Scholarship: Elks National Foundation Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The top 20 finalists will participate in an all-expense paid leadership weekend in Chicago during which they will interview with the national judges. These 20 finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runnersup will receive firth-place scholarships of $4,000. Women in Technology Scholarship: Champlain College This $40,000 scholarship is specifically for woman who will graduate from high school in 2017 and are interested in pursuing an education in the technology field. Nominated students will be eligible to win one of two $10,000 merit based scholarships, which will be renewed annually for three years, for a total of $40,000 toward the awardee’s degree in a technology field of study. DECEMBER The AXA Achievement Scholarship The AXA Achievement Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. In addition, for every student who wins a scholarship, a grant in the amount of $1,000 will be made to the winner’s school. Charles Johnson Jr. Memorial Scholarship: New York City District Council of Carpenters Benefit Funds The NYCDCC offers a scholarship program through the Welfare Fund for unmarried, dependent, natural, or adopted children of eligible members. This benefit is a scholarship program for unmarried, dependent, natural or legally adopted children, regardless of age who, are entering college as a freshman without prior college credit, are entering college with prior college credit earned while completing high school, or are mid-year graduates who entered college prior to the academic year beginning in September. The scholarship program pays up to $3,500 for each year of a four-year academic program at an accredited college or university, or until the child receives a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first. Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Award: Odenza Marketing Group The main goal of the Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Award is to encourage students to make a positive contribution to their individual communities, while providing scholarship awards to those who have done so over the previous 12 months. JANUARY William H. and Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholars Program: Washington University in St. Louis This program honors students who embrace high ideals, whose life choices are guided by personal integrity, selflessness, a commitment to community, and a dedication to leadership and academic excellence. Danforth Scholars may receive full or partial tuition scholarships. Japan Center Essay Competition: Stony Brook University The aim of the Japan Center Essay Competition is to promote awareness and understanding of Japan in the United States and to help young Americans broaden their international horizons. Contestants should write, in English, one or more aspects of Japan including art, culture, tradition, values, philosophy, history, society, politics, business, and technology in relation to their personal views, experiences, and/or future goals. APIASF Scholarship: Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund APIASF provides scholarships to underserved AAPI students with a special focus on those who live at or below the poverty level, or are otherwise of low socioeconomic status, are the first in their family to attend college, are a representative of the AAPI community’s diversity, and have placed strong emphasis on community service and leadership, as well as solid academic achievement. Washington Crossing Foundation National Scholarship awards The Washington Crossing Foundation is pleased to offer a variety of national and regional college scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000. Competition open to all high school seniors who are U. S. citizens and are planning careers of service to the United States in local, state, or federal government. All awards are for one year. Students planning to attend one of the Military Academies or who have been awarded full four-year scholarships will be eligible for an award. The Julie Peierls Scholarship: Theatre Three Productions, Inc. An annual scholarship valued at $1,000 will be presented to a graduating senior from a Long Island high school in memory of Long Island actress Julie Peierls, who passed away in November of 1999. Continuing Scholarship AnBryce Scholars Initiative: University of Notre Dame AnBryce Scholars aim to identify and cultivate future leaders who will be committed to making a difference in the complex and often fractured world in which we live in. AnBryce Scholars are among the first in their families to go to college, and they have encountered significant and socioeconomic challenges in the pursuit of their education. The NCAA awards more than $10 million in scholarships and grants annually to student-athletes and member institutions, in addition to the $2.7 billion allocated by schools to fund athletics scholarships. Additionally, the NCAA is providing $15 million in grant money over the next three years to fund a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Defense that will include the most comprehensive study of concussion and head impact exposure ever conducted. New York Blood Center High School Scholarship Program: New York Blood Center New York Blood Center allows students to earn up to a $1,000 scholarship for successful community service. New York Blood Center will help students organize the blood drive at a location of their choice, or students may utilize one of their 19 Donor Centers, or request a bloodmobile. New York Blood Center provides predrive support including posters/signage, educational materials, etc. On the day of the blood drive, New York Blood Center provides staff, donor beds, and refreshments. New York State Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program The NYS STEM Incentive Program provides a full SUNY tuition scholarship to the top 10 percenter of students in each NYS high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program and agree to live in NYS and work in a STEM related field in NYS for five years after graduation.
