The Lost City
“I started by collecting images from stock sites to use for the background and other parts. I added all the creatures and plants, then I used the Ocean Ripple fi lter which gives the building the underwater feel.”
Untitled
“I designed this work piece through various styles shown in previous editions of the magazine. I used a similar way to colour the chickens as was shown in issue 15. The fi nal outcome took approximately three hours to complete.”
Rainy Day Manor
“The house was converted to quadrotone and colourised to give a golden/sepia effect suggesting diffused warm light bathing the subject. The rest is pretty much the result of playing with masks, channels and layer styles.”
Drunken snails
“Down in the lane, curious snails and a cockerel sampled the local brew. I enjoyed this challenge and decided to have some fun with the images.” Looks like they’ve found some pretty mean moonshine there, Amanda!
Vampire
“Although the original photo was not mine, I have enhanced the tones and manipulated the mouth and eyes. The rest of the picture is made up from goodies out of your magazine.”
A Vision
“I used various techniques from your tutorials and also a couple of plug-ins to help. I thought of what an artist’s impression would have been like all those years ago… I then merged the sketch into an old-style painting.”

Readers’ Challenge
Load up the latest challenge images and unleash your creative powers on them!
ometimes it can pay to restrict the choice of elements you have to work with. Although it’s great to have untold options available, it can mean you never get started because you simply have no idea where to start. So it’s good to try limiting yourself and force the ideas to come to the surface. And that’s the purpose of the Readers’ Challenge.
Each issue we supply you with a selection of random photos to make into an image. You can try applying techniques from one or some of the magazine tutorials, or completely go your own way. You might decide to use all of the images we supply, or just use a couple and then merge them with your own – as long as you use at least one of the challenge images, we don’t mind. There’s no deadline and no skill level, so you have no excuse for not entering!
NOTES | IF YOUR ENTRY IS UNDER 2MB, YOU CAN EMAIL IT TO US AT PCR@IMAGINE-PUBLISHING.CO.UK. UNFORTUNATELY WE CAN’T RETURN CDS
Dramatic photo mosaics
Presenting multiple photos can be tricky, but a clever way of doing so is making a photo mosaic. Simply gather your photos together and overlay with a main image. Job done!
