Practice makes perfect, so they say, and what better way to improve your skills than to try your hand at our Readers’ Challenge?
We get loads of letters and emails each week from readers telling us how much they’ve learnt by applying the techniques they’ve seen in the magazine tutorials to their very own Readers’ Challenge creations.
This issue Kirsten Kent is a deserving winner for her image ‘Leave all hope behind’. This is the rst time she’s entered the competition and we think it’s a fabulous e ort. Check out the great use of perspective here, plus the way she has applied shadows and highlights to make the image all the more convincing.
Another particularly impressive entry this issue is John Truman’s wonderfully sci- -inspired scene, ‘Invasion’. The colour palette and neon e ects work really well and the composition looks great. Well done also to Graham Mills, who put the Digital Scrapbook tutorial from issue 21 into practice and came up with his very own postal creation.
So keep your entries coming. It’s amazing what a dose of imagination can do – get your thinking caps on and start creating!
the winner!
Leave all hope behind
“This is my fi rst attempt at the Readers’ Challenge. I’ve used some gradient maps and the Plastic Wrap fi lter as well as some home-made brushes. Great magazine – it’s the only one I buy.”
win! OLYMPUS Fe-230 DiGitAL CAMerA
why it’s a winner!
It may seem that we go on about perspective a lot, but it’s so important and Kirsten has nailed it in this image. The archway acts as a great tool to lead the eye into the picture, enabling the viewer to acknowledge the presence of the mansion in the distance.
We’re very impressed that this is Kirsten’s fi rst attempt and she’s a very deserving winner. Congratulations!
