DYNAMIC CITY

Basic Design Project I & II

KEY INFO

Type : Student Project / Individual

Date : October 2018 - June 2019

Location : Meydan, Kayseri & Mustafapaşa, Nevşehir, Türkiye

Supervisor : Umut Doğan

The first out study area location on Basic Design Project I class was in Meydan, Kayseri City. Meydan is located in the busiest place of Melikgazi district, which is described as the center of Kayseri. Since the square is located in the center of the city, transportation is very easy. It is possible to reach the square by Kayseri tram and public buses.

And on Basic Design Project II class, our location study area was a Mustafapaşa. Mustafapaşa is an old Greek village called Sinasos in ancient times. Mustafapaşa, one of the most natural places of Cappadocia, is 6 km from Ürgüp and 25 km from Nevşehir. Mustafapaşa is so rich in terms of places to visit that when we come to Ürgüp fot technical trip, we have to spare at least as much time for this charming town that smells of history.

The aim of this project (Basic Design Project I) is to to prepare the substrata of design activities and give the theorical informations about basic ways of thinking design and narrative techniques, to the students in order to be create design concepts in a free and creative way.

In this context, the objectives of the course are to organize the movements of thinking, to reveal the creative forces of designers, and to gain the ability of expressing the observed and imagined objects in the forms of two or three-dimensional drawings with the help of basic design elements and principles, aesthetic values, and visual perception laws by the intention of building artists (designers) identity , and the skill of using the design language.

The design of the project consists of triangles as a unit. A project design that starts from one point and connects all other triangles and spreads in a wavy way is revealed. the aim of this project is to enable us to see or monitor the functions in this area using a good voluminous design.

The objective of the project is to direct abstract thinking and format ideas within scientific principles, and also transform them to design in the axis of the form, structure and space. It is aimed to develop a design fiction, analyzing the existing structures, identifying the problems and creating the solutions, in order to express the abstract and concrete thinking relations.

It involves the preparation of the analytical studies of project depending on the scenario, in a way that is coordinated with the basic design project and technical drawing issues, and the projection and expression of the details of design proposals in a three-dimensional scale. It is expected to be tried abstract thinking skills on a real space.

As in the theme of this class II basic design project, Mustafapaşa became an otopian city in the next 100 years. After 100 years in the city, the city district will be organized in an orderly manner and several areas will be developed. These are recreational area, education, green space, health, trade, agriculture, energy facilities, and industrial area. Since everything in order, the peoples are provided with possible and modern services. That’s why this city is called dynamic city. In the city, transportation is becoming a very important facility. One of the means of transportation used in this utopia city is air transportation. In the perspective of the map, the airway can connect the 2 hills, so that the journey time is not take a lot of time.

Location : Talas, Kayseri, Türkiye

Supervisor : Ceyhan Yücel

The aim of the project is to determine settlement and development strategies according to natural, cultural, sectoral and spatial priorities in the urban area within the metropolitan area impact area and to make planning decisions in the hierarchy that descends from the upper scale to the urban space scale in line with these strategies.

Scope for the purpose stated above; It is aimed to determine the future-oriented urban policies and strategies of Talas settlement, which is located within the close sphere of the rapidly growing Kayseri metropole, and to make planning and regulation decisions at every scale starting from the metropolitan area scale accordingly.

INTRODUCTION / DYNAMIC CITY / SLOW CITY (CITTASLOW) / TALAS SUB-CENT ER / ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN / SUSTAINABLE CITY TOMARZA 15

Kayseri is a large industrialised city in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It is the seat of Kayseri Province. The city of Kayseri, as defined by the boundaries of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, is structurally composed of three metropolitan districts, They are Kocasinan, Melikgazi, and Talas.

The main problem of Kayseri City is irregular population growth so that the main objective of this plan is to make the Talas district as the largest sub center, most active, and liveable district. This can be seen in the great potential of Talas, such as tourism, business and residential areas that are suitable for habitation and other potentials.

The Covid-19 pandemic has made it clear that global epidemics are also disasters and emergencies. The dominant economy and accumulation structures have established an unhealthy relationship with the global ecosystem. City and regional planning is at a point that is mostly directly and indirectly related to this pandemic process.

The aim of the project is to focus on all the urban and regional vulnerabilities that this pandemic has revealed, made visible and clarified, and within the framework of the “culture of living together” and “accessibility” themes. And to develop urban development strategies especially for Melikgazi, Kocasinan, Talas, Hacılar, and Tomarza district in Kayseri. The specific theme that I propose is “The transformation of Tomarza district in Kayseri into a green, smart, compact and sustainable city in 2040 with the principles of culture of living together and accessibility.

In accordance with the general principles, goals and decisions of the Environmental Plan, the general use of land plots, the main types of regions, the future population densities of the regions, the development direction and size and principles of various urban and rural settlements, urban, social and technical infrastructure areas, transportation systems.

THAT BECOME CORRIDORS

Tomarza and Kocasinan districts were chosen as the agricultural focus because they are at the intersection of defined agricultural corridors and are close to the Kayseri district center. Thus, two districts took their places as cooperating agro-industrial centers in the north and south of Kayseri city center.

Erciyes University, technopark and R&D will be the innovation corridors developing in Kayseri and these innovations will have a positive impact on other fields.

The tourism corridor determined by the potential of Kocasinan, Melikgazi and Hacılar districts continues until the district of Tomarza, which will also have tourism potential. These tours are like natural tourism, winter tourism, air tourism and cultural tourism.

Melikgazi district is located in an industrial and transportation links corridor close to Kayseri city center and KOSB’s logistics center. Therefore, this study has determined Melikgazi as the focal point of the sector.

As a result of the development of cities, the generations remaining in the city have turned into multifunctional urban green areas. When determining intergenerational intervention strategies, different strategies should be defined for parts of different nature. The basic functions of green belts today are;

1. Creating an area for sports and outdoor activities near the city,

2. Protection of natural areas in the city,

3. Facilitating the urban population’s access to green areas,

4. It helps urban transformation by bringing the abandoned and degraded urban areas into use.

1:5.000 scale Master Development Plan, which will be the basis for the demonstration and preparation of the implementation zoning plans; Building blocks related to construction in accordance with the principles and principles of the Master Zoning Plan, their uses, building order, building height, floor area coefficient, floor area number of floors or precedent, building approach distance, island separation line, transportation relations, urban, social and technical infrastructure areas.
