New Hico Clinic building work to begin
The ceremonial groundbreaking for the new $900,000 Hico Clinic building was held Monday, May 19, outside the old building. The new structure will be built at the back of the property with most of the old clinic building remaining in use until the new building is ready. The old building will then be torn down to allow parking at the front of the property on Hwy. 281. Les Branson Companies will do the construction. The project was approved last month by the Hamilton County Hospital District which operates the clinic here as well as the clinic and hospital in Hamilton. City required asbestos testing on the old structure has already been done. HCHD Board member Bill Craig, DVM, told the ground breaking audience the clinic was of benefit to the hospital district and also to the people of Hico. His son, Dr. Shalor Craig, M.D. who practices at the Hico clinic, said, “We’re excited to see the construction of a new clinic for Hico begin and look forward to working in it.” Hico Mayor Michael Price said the clinic was extremely important to Hico and thanked the hospital district for its commitment to the new building project. Branson Companies chief financial officer Roy Ward said the finish date on the project should be late November or early December of this year. this thing called retirement. 7:00 Sharpened my chainsaw, put new line in the weed whacker, saddle soaped my saddle, polished my boots, sorted some screws, filled the birdbath and dusted the inside of my mailbox. 9:00-11:00 Alphabetized all my books by the author’s last name, dusted my old FFA trophies, inked the rubber stamp pad, changed a weak light bulb, and removed all the Rolodex cards of people who had died in the last 20 years. Getting a little bored, I wandered into the kitchen where my wife was preparing lunch. “Let me help,” I said, dropping a jar of blackberry jelly on the floor and breaking it. My wife suggested it would be better if I wouldn’t help. “Why don’t you sort the everything-drawer,” she suggested. Noon- After I separated the rubber bands from the old keys, my wife and I had lunch together. “Isn’t retirement nice?” I said. “Now what do we do?” “We could have a conversation,” she suggested. So we sat at the table in stone cold silence for ten minutes until she said, “Why don’t you go to the store and get some bread and milk?” 1:00 Got home from the store with bags of candy, gum, soda pop and chips but no bread or milk. The wife is starting to get a little testy I think.” 2:00 All I was trying to do was help her with the housework but she did not appreciate it when I spilled the vacuum bag on our white carpet. Citizens of Hico, Wow!!!!! WHAT A DAY IN HICO, TEXAS This year’s 12th Annual Texas Steak Cookoff has now come and gone, but has left a very positive image for our Community based on comments from lots of cookers, vendors, wineries and the masses of people coming to Hico for the day. As the Chairman of the 12th Annual Texas Steak Cookoff, I am proud to have had the honor of this position and the opportunity to work with some of the great and most positive volunteers in our community. The success of this year’s event, is solely based on the commitment from each and every chair person I had heading up their areas of the event and the people that volunteered to help in the various areas. In addition, I would especially like to thank for local businesses for their patience and support of the cookoff. We come in on Friday and mark streets up, close streets, put up tents everywhere and expect them to continue on with their day to day business, which is a lot to ask. After the event, they
are patient with us on getting the town cleaned up and back to the status quo. I appreciate the citizens of Hico that are very accommodating in letting the Cookoff close their streets, and take away their front yard views. These are our residents along Railroad Avenue. This year’s cookoff was a great success and the economic benefits to our community are beyond anyone’s expectations. Once all the numbers are finalized, we will publish the financial results of this fantastic event. I look forward to next year’s event, which will be the 13th year and based on feedback, it should be the biggest event ever. Thanks for the town of Hico’s support. Mike James Chairman, Texas Steak Cookoff

It is awarded to the student that has the best crash or explosion. The winner of the yearlong points competition will win a Vexplorer robot. Rocket launch day will be on the 22nd of May at 8:30am.

We continue from last week noticing some examples of dishonesty in the Bible. In 2 Kings chapter 5 we read of a man named Gehazi, who was the servant of Elisha the prophet. Elisha had healed Naaman, captain of the Syrian army, of his leprosy and Naaman had offered the prophet a gift in thanksgiving. But Elisha rejected Naaman’s gift. So Gehazi being greedy lied to Naaman in order to get the captain to give the rich gift to him. When Gehazi came back home, after he had hidden the gift, Elisha confronted him and rebuked the servant for what he had done. Gehazi ended up getting the leprosy of Naaman because of his dishonesty. Another example of dishonesty is in the New Testament. In Acts chapter 5 we read of a married couple named Ananias & Sapphira. The sold their possessions for a good cause, kept some of the proceeds for themselves, and then brought the rest and gave it to the apostles. Others had done this when they were giving all of the proceeds from the sale of property. These two wanted the glory of giving all without actually giving all. Peter rebuked them for lying to the Holy Spirit, which is lying to God (Acts 5:3-4). They were punished with death. The Bible is clear that God is against dishonesty. Next week we will look examples of honesty. Study your Bible every day and obey God. Come visit us at the Hico Church of Christ. Go to hicochurchofchrist.org for more information. Hico Activity Center News By Jill Campbell
The Hico Activity Center is grateful for the generous canned good donations from Duffau Baptist Church. Helping with the cans in the pantry, and saving this ‘ol director’s back, was Dapper Dan Rightner. Eis donated a scrumptious lunch last week of chicken salad sandwiches, pasta and potato salads. The folks loved it and are particularly partial to the potato salad. Coffee & Conversation gets livelier every week-- much witty repartee especially when Eva Mancuso makes her weekly appearance. Matt and Dean Ware, Jan, Ed, Betty and Brenda Riley are just some of our regulars. Sometimes VIPs like Marshall Bill Eller pop in. You just never know! Join us Wednesdays, 8-9:30. Mucho gracias to Joyce and Lewie Hughes for being so kind in setting up our tables for our Line Dancing every week. Bridge continues Wednesdays at 1:00 pm. Not missing a beat, Janie Brants filled in as director last Thursday. What an angel! The Line Dancers will be meeting 15 minutes earlier this week, at 9:45 because of our Community Potluck. We will be having spaghetti and salad. By the way, the dancers are getting so skillful! And as has been said, “After all, Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.” Menu: Wed: sour cream enchiladas, rice, beans & cake, Thurs. Community Potluck Monday, baked pork chop, squash casserole, turnip greens, cornbread, pudding

CMYK Emergency Farm Loan Applications Being Accepted Applications for emergency farm loans for losses caused by drought are being accepted at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) office located in Stephenville, Cynthia P. Kinser said today. Hamilton County is one of 6 in Texas recently named by Secretary of Agriculture Tim Vilsack eligible for loans to cover part of actual production and/or physical losses resulting from the drought. Mrs. Kinser said farmers may be eligible for loans of up to 100% of their actual losses or the operating loan needed to continue the agricultural business, whichever is less. For farmers unable to obtain credit from private commercial lenders, the interest rate is 3.50%. “As a general rule, a farmer must have suffered at least a 30 percent loss of crop production or suffered any physical loss to be eligible for an FSA emergency loan under this disaster designation”, Mrs. Kinser said. Produces participating in the Federal Crop Insurance program will have to consider proceeds from those programs in determining their production loss. Additionally, any insurance proceeds received by produc-
ers as a result of the physical loss will have to be considered in determining their total loss. “Applications for loans under this emergency designation will be accepted until January 13, 2016, but farmers should apply as soon as possible. Delays in applying could create backlogs in processing, with possible delays into the new farming season”, Mrs. Kinser said.FSA is a credit agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is authorized to provide disaster emergency loans to recognized farmers who work at and rely on farming for a substantial part of their living. Eligibility is extended to individual farmers who meet U.S. citizen requirements and to farming partnerships, corporations, or cooperatives in which U.S. citizenship requirements are met by individuals holding a majority interest.

City of Hico Business
National 4-H Conference
By Michael Leamons City Administrator
A city wide clean-up has been planned for Saturday, May 30th. On that day from 8:00 a.m. until noon, by presenting a copy of your most recent City water bill to the gate attendants, City residents will be allowed to make use of the Transfer Station free of charge. Volunteers will have pickups and trailers available during the morning to help with hauling. Anyone needing to dispose of mattresses or other large items who doesn’t have a way to transport those items to the Transfer Station is encouraged to call City Hall at 796-4620 and have their name placed on a collection list. Several private citizens are planning on helping with the effort. Also, the Hico Lion’s Club has agreed to make this one of its community service projects and provide volunteers. Anyone wishing to volunteer is encouraged to call City Hall and sign-up. The Transfer Station can’t accept hazard waste such as paint, chemicals or pesticides. Additionally, tires, batteries, appliances having Freon or electronic equipment cannot be accepted. If the weather permits, there will be an opportunity to dispose of brush and leaves at another location. For more details, please call City Hall. May God bless the City of Hico.
TELL ‘EM YOU SAW IT IN THE HICO NEWS REVIEW!
Every year senior 4-H members from all over have the chance to apply for National 4-H Conference. This is a trip to Washington D.C. where the selected 4-Hers split up into different roundtables and get a problem in today’s community. Then they put together a presentation with solutions which they will present to different high ranked organizations, so that the youths ideas will get out to the people who can make changes. Seventeen year old Ethan Geter and sixteen year old Myrah Geter, two active Hico 4-H members, had the great opportunity to be a part of 2015’s National 4-H Conference. These siblings have been in 4-H since their third grade years and really enjoy everything there is to do in 4-H. Ethan is Hamilton County 4-H Council’s Editor and the Hico 4-H Club Vice President. Myrah is the Hamilton County 4-H Council Historian and the Hico 4-H Club Secretary. They also are competitive in many 4-H contests such as method demonstration, swine quiz bowl, food challenge, showing pigs, Myrah does fashion show, and Ethan shows steers. They were both overjoyed when they learned that they had been selected to go to National 4-H Conference. Myrah was assigned her first choice of the Healthy Eating roundtable and Ethan was selected to the Ag Careers roundtable. Myrah and the others in her roundtable talked about what motivates food choices and how to motivate people to make healthier choices. She also brought up the problems in school lunches and their roundtable came up with solutions. They presented all of their ideas to the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). She also got contact information from members of
the USDA if she has any other suggestions about school lunches or ideas to help others make good food choices. Myrah really enjoyed her experience and would encourage others to go to National 4-H Conference. Ethan and his roundtable presented to the USDA and NIFA (National Institute of Food and Agriculture) on how to solve the problem of an increasing age in the average farmer. The average age of farmers today is 55.3, and our goal was to help the USDA and NIFA spread the word on the diversity in agriculture and how to do so. Another amazing thing these two got to do was meet with their Congressman, Representative Roger Williams. Both Ethan and Myrah got to enter the Capitol Building and talk to Representative Roger Williams. They discussed what they had done with their roundtables and some future plans and expectations of theirs. Also since Roger Williams got drafted by the Atlanta Braves to play baseball after graduating from college, he shared some baseball tips with them. Myrah and Ethan would like to thank all of the sponsors they had in order to make their trip possible – CTL, Corp.; Hico Building Center; Davis Feed Mill; Hamilton County Farm Bureau; David and Saundra Lengefeld; Lone Star Ag Credit; West and Company, Inc.; Nathan Plagens; Cowboy Capitol Insurance Group; Erath County Farm Bureau. Ethan and Myrah said, “We want to encourage others to join 4-H! This is just one of the many opportunities for 4-H members.” For more information on 4-H contact 254.386.3919 or visit the Hamilton County 4-H website http://hamilton. agrilife.org.

Governor Abbott Announces Kubota Tractor Headquarters Relocation To Texas
AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today announced that Kubota Tractor and Credit Corporations will relocate their corporate headquarters from Torrance, California to Grapevine, Texas. Kubota’s headquarters relocation is projected to create at least 344 new jobs and $51 million in capital investment in the State of Texas. A Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant offer of $3.8 million has been extended to Kubota Tractor Corporation. The City of Grapevine and the Dallas Regional Chamber partnered with the Office of the Governor to facilitate state and local support for Kubota’s relocation. “The City of Grapevine is proud to partner with the State of Texas and Kubota Tractor Corporation by welcoming
Kubota’s new corporate headquarters to Grapevine,” said Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate. “Kubota’s history and products complement the heritage of our community, and this partnership marks an important milestone in the continued development of the City of Grapevine.” Construction on Kubota’s Grapevine facility will begin this year and is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2017. The company currently has a facility in Fort Worth that employs approximately 100 workers. The TEF offer is contingent upon final execution of the contract between TEF and Kubota and upon Kubota meeting jobs and capital investment projections, as well as the receipt of offered local incentives.
