Refrigerator Notes In this issue.. When you think fall, you may think “pumpkin spice.” Most people either love it or they don’t. I won’t take up valueable column inches to debate the merits of the PSL. Frankly, I can take it or leave it. I prefer caramel. Fall is that wonderful time of the year (at least here in the Ozarks) when some days are warm enough for shorts and sandals and others require a hoodie and boots. Mmmm...I love my hoodies! But, I’ve become one of those people who wears my sandals until the last possible day when the cold is just too much for my toes. (Another debate we’ll skip—open-toe shoes and white after Labor Day. I know what I was taught. But, sorry, Mom—I love my sandals.) How do your activities change with the seasons? With my son away at college now, my dog and I will take more walks. He’s half Siberian husky and doesn’t tolerate the midday summer heat. I have to agree with him. The change of seasons brings tradeoffs. I look forward to bundling up in a blanket to sit on the deck with a book, simmering a pot of chili on Sunday afternoon (leftovers!), and feeling crisp breezes. But, I’ll miss the trips to the river and taking care of my outdoor plants. (Mowing the grass? Not so much.) Hopefully you’ve had a summer of fun with your littles and bigs, and you can cherish those memories when the days are short and too cool to play outside. Remember, hug your kids. Hold hands. Read aloud together every day. Say “I love you” a lot. And, always be good to yourself. You’ve got this! |

Ozarks Regional YMCA
orymca.org The Ozarks Regional YMCA operates eight family centers, including two Springfield locations. The Y is the starting point for many youth to become and stay active and develop healthy habits they’ll carry throughout their lives. Whether it’s the confidence that comes from learning to dribble a basketball or positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y helps build the whole child from the inside out. The Ozarks Regional YMCA is a nonprofit organization that believes no one should be denied access to membership and/or programs due to the inability to pay. These funds are subsidized through the United Way of the Ozarks and through the Y Impact Campaign. See ad on page 17. Continued on page 18 Remember to say, “I found it in Kids Directory!”
