Refrigerator Notes In this digital age, our cherished photos are among the thousands of photos on our smart phones. We don’t print photos and create albums or scrapbooks like we used to. (Let’s not even discuss the blank pages of our precious baby books.) I recently spoke to a group of professional women about my personal journey from employee to business owner. I left them with a few reminders about preserving our history: • Print your favorite photos, or at least organize them, identifying who, what, where, and when so future generations can enjoy them. • Explore StoryCorps (storycorps.org) and use the StoryCorps app to interview family members this holiday season. Capture their stories, YOUR story. Through StoryCorps, conversations are archived at the Library of Congress. | ~Melinda, publisher & parent of a teenager Connect with Kids Directory SpringfieldKids.com Facebook @SpringfieldKids Twitter @spfldkidsdirectory Instagram @springfield_kids

Make Lasting Memories This Holiday Season by Dr. Allison Wise
I can’t believe we are already here—Holiday Season 2019! As parents, I ask you to think about a holiday tradition or make a holiday memory this year. Think about what you can accomplish for your family. Make it easy and fun. Your end goal is to make lasting memories for your family, not short-term, easily forgotten thoughts. Take yourself one of your own special holiday memories. Ask yourself why you cherish that special event, feeling, or picture in your head. Was it materialistic? Who was around you? Why was it meaningful? What were you thinking or feeling? Take those cues to create an action plan for this year. The
traditional advice to slow down, plan ahead, and enjoy your time is all good in nature, but take the next step and make it happen. Create those feelings and emotions again for your family, whether that is peace, love, comfort, faith, serenity, or joy. Make a tradition or a memory this year you want your children to remember and one day share with their own families. Wishing you and your family the happiest holidays this 2019 season! Allison Wise, Psy.D, is a Kids Directory contributor. She specializes in services for children, adolescents, and families. See her ad on page 15, and learn about her at WisePsychologicalServices.com.
