Refrigerator Notes Putting together our fall festival issue reminded me there is no shortage of amazing and entertaining family fun in the greater Springfield area. Fall brings the opportunity to get out of the city and visit small towns, like the one where I grew up, to soak up the fun and festivities of pumpkins, apples, crafts, and parades. We have five pages of festivals in our annual guide, starting on page 18. Along with picking out some of the more wellknown events, I challenge you to pick at least one hosted by a rural community to add to your family’s calendar. Fall festivals reconnect us with the region’s agricultural roots—the endless orchards and livestock farms—when previous generations grew and preserved food for the off seasons and hand-made goods far outweighed what was available for purchase. | ~Melinda, publisher & parent of a teenager Connect with Kids Directory SpringfieldKids.com Facebook @SpringfieldKids Twitter @spfldkidsdirectory Instagram @springfield_kids
