NOTEABLE QUOTES AND COMMENTS “The concept of the Creative Lab is brilliant. Not only does it broaden the audience of attendees, it allows people in the industry who often never have a chance to work directly with one another to cross-pollinate and share knowledge. Film fans receive a peek behind the curtain while young aspiring filmmakers, actors, composers, etc. receive inspiration and ‘from-thehorses-mouth’ tricks of the trade. And, what better environment than in the midst of island aloha.” Richard Bellis, Emmy-Winning Composer, Author, ASCAP Board of Directors
Via email Sat., Oct. 13, 2012 My name is Daniel Bayot. We met at today’s Film Composer workshop; I was the senior in high school who asked Mr. Christopoulos and Mr. Bellis about the separation and distinction between concert composers and the film composers.
I just wanted to reiterate how valuable this seminar was for me and thank you for setting it up! I’ve received quite a bit of formal training in concert composition, but have found little opportunity to learn about composing for film. Having just started scoring short films for local directors, I was kind of at a loss on how to sketch, structure and time my music with the footage, as the sketching methods my concert music training taught me wouldn’t work. This seminar really gave me the tools to create a logical, efficient creative process for myself. I’m so excited to score my next film! Additionally, the presentation really gave me insight into the industry’s challenges and will really help me evaluate my life and career choices. :)
Mahalo, Daniel J. Bayot
