EDITORIAL - Cy Williams As we close out the first year of this new decade, it becomes increasingly apparent that we are in for a very interes ng decade indeed. As far as first years go, 2020 was a doozy, a page turner and if it were a serisalized novella or comic book series - every moth would be a cliff hanger with a ‘to be con nued’ tagged at the end of each moth’s news headlines. I have been speaking for years in my editorial that change is coming and that change is here and that if put people ma er more than profits and s ck together, trea ng people with kindness - that we can make a be er world. I s ll believe this and I want you to believe this too. This New Years in par cular seems to signal many new changes to the world around us and I have been wan ng to reflect this in my New Year resolu ons this year. Set your goals using the S.M.A.R.T. guideline Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realis c and Time-bound. The SMART guideline is o en used to set and achieve goals in high rates of efficiency. It can also be applied to every aspect of a person’s life. First of all, by making your resolu on specific, you can focus on the specific ac ons or changes you need to implement in order to achieve your goal. By making your objec ves and goals measurable, you are ensuring that your progress will not only help you get mo vated from the start, but also that it will tell you the cold hard facts which relate to the realisa on of your newly discovered dreams. Your goals need to be achievable and realis c. It is be er to take small steps in the right direc on, rather than running without any direc on at all. By se ng achievable goals you are forced to believe in yourself and your progress in the future. If you think that it is unlikely that you will achieve your goals, it is less likely that you will act against your intui on.
And finally organizing your objec ves to adhere to a me-scale will help you op mize your performance and to check your progress against the rest of the SMART guidelines. I’ve come up with a few of my own personal resolu ons, but I’d like to propose some for all of us. We can make our respec ve neighborhoods and countries even be er ones if each of us takes them to heart. For this new year, let’s resolve: To cri cize less and encourage more. A kind word usually goes much further than a harsh or hasty judgment. We could all get by with less nega vity.

To read one or more good biographies of people who were (or s ll are) excellent examples of the virtuous l i fe . I n s p i r e y o u r s e l f b y l e a r n i n g o f t h e i r accomplishments.
To go out of our way to show kindness to a pet. Also, teach your children about the importance of kindness to animals. It’s a great start on the way to respec ng all life, including that of our fellow humans.
To count our own blessings, not the other person’s, and do it regularly. Studies show that cul va ng a grateful spirit improves both your mental and physical health.
To smile. A lot. A lot more than comedian W. C. Fields once advised when he said, “Start every day with a smile and get it over with.”
To improve our personal character—our truthfulness, pa ence, courage, honesty, responsibility, self-reliance, and introspec on—before we set out to reform the world. If everybody did this, the world would by defini on be reformed.
To beau fy something that otherwise gets ignored. Examples: buff the sidewalk in front of our homes; pick up some li er on our streets; replace that unsightly, aged mulch, or paint the faded siding on our houses.
To clean up our language. Foul language, ever more common and public these days, sets a lousy standard.
To get to know our neighbors be er. How many of us don’t actually know the folks who live two or three doors away? Go say hello. That’s a start, anyway.
To help others who need and deserve it by personally pitching in or by suppor ng private organiza ons that do Just imagine how much be er life would be if we all worked on any of these simple things. Can you think of any good reason not to? Happy 2021!

first met one half of the Afro Cannada Bud Sistas, Natalie, in 2019 at a dinner held by The Heightened Chef in Toronto. We sat next to eachother for our delicious infused meal, and over the course of a couple hours I got to know this amazing woman and her cannabis journey. Since that dinner, Natalie has been building an impressive green resume backed with experience, educa on and the best sense of humor needed to manuever this evolving space. Partnering up with Khadisha Thornhill, they formed the Afro Canna Bud Sistas which is an Online collec ve of Black women Cannoirsoeurs who enjoy the benefits of legaliza on in Canada. Tell us a li le bit about you both!
Born and raised in Montreal, now living in the Toronto area of Canada, Khadisha Thornhill is a power woman in both of Canada's official languages. She describes herself first as a strong "Black Canadian woman and single mom to a 14yr old Black future NHLer" , She has an impressive corporate background - a twenty year history in the insurance industry with a strong teaching component N a t a l i e C ox h a s b e e n d e s c r i b e d a s a powerwoman of Canadian cannabis. She first came to the plant for personal reasons - she realized she had been coping badly with untreated anxiety, PTSD, and insomnia. Cannabis, she says, helped - it gave her a be er quality of life. With the federal legaliza on of cannabis in Canada, she felt empowered to start growing her own. She was good at it - and so, a er a life me serving customers in retail, she determined to go back to college to study
Has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? This ques on gives me the giggles, and I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve gone 2020-mad yet or not. The global Covid-19 pandemic is really forcing us to pump our brakes as far as being able to provide our members with more events. We were able to squeeze out one event this past summer, our first and only High Tea; which was a huge success. It was such a magical a ernoon; a group of beau ful Black women gathered in my backyard garden to celebrate sisterhood and weed. All served on my fine china and crystal. The photos are gorgeous! Over conversa on with Khadisha Thornhil, the two lamented over the lack of spaces for Black women and commi ed to filling to the gap and crea ng the space they craved, birthing Afro Cannada Budsistas. Together, their mission is to normalize cannabis use among Black Women by informa on, educa on, and exposure. How did you get involved in the cannabis space? (N
)
I literally immersed myself in the cannabis space. I went to cra shows and markets; and a few infused dinners. I entered the cannabis space the way I take on most things in life, and also how I learned to swim; I jumped right in the deep end. And I made sure everyone saw me.
Afro Cannada Budsistas was founded simply as a group to hold safe space for Black women and to commiserate about all things cannabis. A large part of what we do revolves around educa on. Khadisha is also known as Ms. WeedWiki, and has been a wealth of knowledge for our members on all things cannabis legisla on and medical cannabis informa on. We hold regular mental health check-ins, and virtual Sister Seshes, where our members are invited to join us as we sesh from our garage. I am also known as Growing With Natalie, and I provide growing knowledge to those members interested in growing their own medicine. We just completed our first full grow along with some of our members, who grew for the first me. I was available for ques ons along the process. It’s amazing hearing how happy people are when they smoke their own weed for the first me. THAT is magic. I even got Ms. WeedWiki (Khadisha) growing for the first me! If someone is contempla ng taking the entrepreneurial leap, what advice would you offer? Be prepared to feel uncomfortable. Uncomfortably broke, uncomfortable with rejec on, isola on, lack of understanding from friends and family who don’t understand how li le free me you actually have. Find a support system of other entrepreneurs who can help keep you mo vated. Find a mentor who is doing what you want to do.
W h e n I started growing cannabis, I had no other growing experience besides my 30-year old tropical p l a n t collec on and having grown some peppers and tomatoes. I m e t a couple of growers at Cannacrawl a n d a ached myself to them. Don’t be shy. Reach out. You’d be surprised how helpful most people are. Believe in yourself. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. If you could change one thing in the industry what would it be? I wo u l d l i ke to s e e t h o s e i n p owe r acknowledge that this industry was built on the backs of marginalized people who are now shut out of profi ng. I would like to see space made for Black and Indigenous people in the legal cannabis market. I read there are less than 1% Black people in the cannabis industry. And something like 87% men and 89% white. I think those numbers leave a lot of room for improvement in the racial disparity in the cannabis industry.
What are your plans for 2021? (N

I graduate in April 2021! That’s my big plan. I’m so excited because I waited 30 years to go to college. I only hope I get to walk a c ro s s t h e stage.
One thing about each of you that we don't know! I joined the United States Air Force when I was 18 years old! I served two years in Del Rio, Texas. Laughlin AFB. Ughhhh…. I met a lot of really wonderful people who I’m s ll friends with, but I’m not good with that much discipline and order lol. I was a military brat growing up. My mom was in the Air Force too. I’ve lived in the Philippines and Panama. or most of us, we haven't "fallen into" the cannabis space. We have been here as growers, consumers, connoisseurs, extractors, bakers, chefs, and so much more for so many years. We are passionate, enthusias c, and most importantly, a l w ay s l e a r n i n g new ways to improve what we already do so well. With more people at home this year of Covid, it was no surprise to see the a m o u n t o f Canadians wan ng to devote their me and energy to a plant they have loved for years, or were just ge ng to know. Croptober in Canada produced so much amazing cannabis harvests, and from that also came top quality extracts, oils, hash, and of course ower. This year I followed from start, to ďŹ nish, the growing and harves ng of Cra Grown Fire, an Ontario based grower who has a p a s s i o n fo r t h e plant, the processing and of course his Hash Rosin.

t's almost the end of the year, Instagram and Facebook have rolled out their new policies and it's most upse ng to the en re cannabis space, from all levels. It doesn't ma er if you're a legal Licensed Producer, a cra grower, home baker, ar st or any other number of things involving cannabis, there is a good chance you have had a post removed for
not following the pla orms "community guidelines" or other nonsense we know to be unfairly targeted. The cannabis space is made up of millions of people worldwide and we generate alot of movement on these apps that con nue to proďŹ t from the work we've done. We are constantly bombarded by ads for Alcohol, which I might add, involve depic ons of people and events where
people are...get this.....having a good me!! Something that seems to be both frowned upon by governments and now Instagram, which given the proven track record of alcohol and alcohol related incidents, is shocking and disturbing. BUTTTTTTT, like anything in life that goes wrong, it creates an opportunity for someone to make it right, which brings us to Sam Houston, creator of Cannabuzz, a (not so) new app commi ed to not censoring the cannabis community. Why/When did you start Cannabuzz We launched CannaBuzz in April 2019, a er over a year of seeing our friends have their accounts and content be deleted on pla orms like Instagram and YouTube. My professional background is in managing large communi es, I've been doing it for over 12 years for startups and large companies, and I believed that I could create a be er online community than what was currently available. CannaBuzz was created so that we could have a safe space for the en re cannabis community to share content and to connect with one another, which I believe is especially important as more states and countries decriminalize or legalize cannabis and people have increased access to medicine. CannaBuzz is a great way to learn more about cannabis and connect with others. Even though Cannabuzz has been around for 2 years, do you think now is the me for the pla orm to take off, given the new restric ons with Facebook and Instagram? CannaBuzz has had several moments where we've seen an increase in new members, but the several days following December 20th, 2020 will definitely stand out. That was the day that Instagram's new Terms of Service policy went into effect, and many users were upset with the new access and permissions that Instagram was reques ng when using the app. In the week following that Sunday, we've more than doubled the size of our community to over 80,000 members. I think these moments will con nue to happen over me, as large social networks con nue to use outdated modera on policies and as that con nues to conflict with a world that is rapidly legalizing cannabis recrea onally and medicinally. The Cannabis space has the capacity to completely change the future of Cannabuzz moving forward, do you think you can handle millions of users who are used to the other pla orms and their speed? I'm confident that CannaBuzz can scale to handle the demand or interest from the community, as we're teamed up with a great App pla orm team at Honeycommb. Honeycommb is the development team
behind the app and they've helped serve communi es like Lady Gaga's Li le Monsters, so I feel confident that Honeycommb will be able to scale alongside the CannaBuzz community. Will you be revamping the app to handle some of the overall complaints in the cannabis space, such as Plugs? Only Fans pages? and material unrelated to cannabis? We ask that everyone report posts from accounts that violate our community guidelines, which includes accounts trying to illegally sell cannabis or other items. Regarding OnlyFans, we don't have a policy specifically against OnlyFans but we do have a policy against pos ng nudity, and we do take down that photo/video content. At this me we're not interested in overly modera ng the community's content in terms of its relevance to cannabis. In a day there can some mes be over 25,000 comments and posts - we're not manually reviewing all of them to decide whether it's relevant or not. Some users would like the op on to have control over followers, (not just be able to block them) and having people request to be followed, rather than just added. Will that be an op on down the road? We don't have Private accounts in the App at this me but that's a great sugges on that we'll share with the team for future considera on. What advice do you have for the cannabis community looking to make the change from Instagram to Cannabuzz over the next while?

NEW YEAR DELIGHTS
T
o start the year, Miss Linotte proposes a Fresh Broccoli Salad and a Date Square. To drink try both a Spicy Hot Chocolinotte and a frozen Orange Julinotte. You will feel elevated! BROCCOLI SALAD WITH APPLE AND BACON Ingredients - 2 big broccoli cut in small florets - 6 bacon slices - 2 granny smith diced - 1 celery stalk diced
- 1/2 red onion diced - 4 radishes finely sliced - 1/2 cup dry cranberries - 1/2 cup nuts - 1 small fennel finely sliced - 1/2 cup small feta cubes - 1/4 cup hemp seed Dressing - 1/3 cup mayonnaise - 2 tsp cider vinegar - 4 tbs maple syrup - 1 tbs dijon mustard - salt and pepper to taste - THC tincture
Steps 1. Cook bacon until crisp cut in small pieces 2. In a big boiling water pot cook broccoli 1 minute, drain under cold water, drain again 3. In a big salad bowl whip all the dressing ingredients together 4. Add all the ingredients mix well and serve DATE CARRÉLINOTTE Ingredients - 1/2 pound of pitted date - 1 cup orange juice - Juice from 1 orange - THC tincture - 1 cup wheat flour - 1/2 cup almond flour - 1 cup oatmeal - 1/2 cup Quinoa flake - 3/4 cup brown sugar - 1/2 tsp baking soda - 1/2 tsp salt - 1/3 cup butter - 1/3 cup THC butter - 1 cup chopped walnuts or cashew

Steps 1. In a pan put together orange zest and juice , date and tincture cook slowly until the date are smooth Set aside 2. Mix together all the rest of ingredients in a big mixing bowl 3. Bake at 350 degrees, grease an 8 by 8 inches baking pan 4. Spread half of the oatmeal mix and press 5. Pour the date and the remaining oatmeal mix 6. Place in the oven for 45 minute or until golden, let It cool and cut in 16 pieces \
Ingredients - 2 cup fresh squeeze orange juice - 1/4 cup greek yoghurt - 2 egg white - 1/4 cup powder sugar - 2 tsp vanilla extract - THC tincture - ice Steps 1. Press the oranges 2. Put all the ingredients in the blender and mix well until foamy and serve.

- 3 cup of milk - 3 oz dark chocolate chopped - 2 tbs blue agave syrup - 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon - pinch ground nutmeg - pinch cayenne - 1 tbs thc coconut oil - 1/2 cup miniature marshmallow
1. In a deep bottom pot, heat the milk at medium heat until bubble on the side. 2. Add chocolate syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne mix well until smooth. 3. Pour the hot chocolate in 4 cups, garnish with miniature mashmallow.
