HIGH! CANADA MAGAZINE - ISSUE #33

Within the Canadian cannabis space - you were either rejoicing the passing of C45 and the announcement of legalization beginning in the fall or you were lamenting that act and were seeing this historic occurrence as Prohibition 2.0 with a new set of problems among those being harsher penalties and a number of bureaucrats who think legalization is an excuse to hire more public sector employees, to ramp up operations and create new cannabis categories of bureaucracy. Law enforcement thinks it’s an excuse to hire more police and increase funding and in the meanwhile, cannabis is still illegal. “Cannabis for non-medical use is not legal yet. The law still remains the law,” Justice Minister Jody WilsonRaybould told reporters recently. I get she has to say what she has to say BUT we are talking about taking an entire illegal industry and making it legal here. It may not be so cut and dry. Creating a legal and regulated through the nose industry is what was promised. Which is all well and good but what happened to that discussion about bringing old school Canadian growers out of the shadows and into that above-board, regulated regime? In Alberta, cannabis advocates who openly break the law and engage in civil disobedience will still be criminal. In Manitoba and Quebec, where you are free to brew your own poison, growing cannabis is going to be against the law. B.C. Solicitor General Mike Farnworth has drawn a line in the sand and won’t allow well-established and respected dispensaries to be grandfathered in. Whether they’re unlicensed or have paid licensing fees to their municipality. Where does that leave all the hard working business owners in Vancouver who paid $30,000+ to become licensed in their own city? There’s little federal talk of medical research or the medicinal and therapeutic properties of the plant. Our Canadian government is very clear about this. In the eyes of the Federal government - cannabis is pretty much the same as alcohol and tobacco. I cannot even begin to tell you the many, many reasons why I so strongly disagree with this close-minded way of looking at cannabis, but at least it’s going to be legal. Right?

MAGAZ NE Canada Becomes First G-7 Country to Legalize Recreational Cannabis! Canada's parliament has passed a law legalizing the recreational use of marijuana nationwide. The Cannabis Act passed its final hurdle on Tuesday in a 52-29 vote in the Senate. The bill controls and regulates how the drug can be grown, distributed, and sold. Canadians will be able to buy and consume cannabis legally as early as this September. The country is the second worldwide to legalize the drug's recreational use. Coming into force on October 17, Canada’s legislation to legalize cannabis contains a number of provisions that ban several marketing tools like endorsements and testimonials, as well as depictions of people, celebrities, and characters on cannabis packaging. The Cannabis Act also says that it is going to be “prohibited to promote cannabis,” including “by means of a testimonial or endorsement” and “by means the depiction of a person, character or animal, whether real or fictional.” The same prohibitions apply to cannabis product labels. That said - the Cannabis Act does actually permit limited advertising via “brandpreference promotion,” which involves promoting a brand’s specific

characteristics. The Cannabis Act also permits “informational promotion.” High! Canada Magazine has been hearing that from now until October 17th Cannabis companies ‘pushing the marketing envelope’ will continue as the rule of thumb in Canada. Case in point, certain Canadian cannabis producers had signed on to sponsor some summer music festivals before the new anti-promotion laws were announced. Interesting enough, it was reported that the Aurora sponsored King’s Of Leon concert at the Calgary Stampede was a huge draw and that it was a significant name harvesting opportunity for the gargantuan Licenced Producer. Health Canada has issued a press release condemning event sponsorship “and other promotional activ ities by f e d e ra l l y l i c e n s e d p r o d u c e r s o f cannabis,” citing a section of the Narcotics Control Regulations that forbids publishing any advertisement to the public in respect of “a narcotic.” Health Canada ended the release citing the possibility of imprisonment and a fine of $5 million. Seems very much a ‘smoke ‘em if you got ‘em” situation...

Preparing For The New Era of Legalization, Cannabis Enthusiasts - And Canna Curious - Invited to Attend Canada’s very first Cannabliss Retreat California based Cannabliss Retreats, with Canada’s own Dr. Ira Price, MD, FRCPC, (recognized worldwide for medical cannabis education) has been lauded for pioneering a new era, merging cannabis with the wellness and travel industries in “The Golden State.” Their hugely successful model, an “innovative, multi-day experiential cannabis vacation,” last held at a private estate in Malibu, CA comes to Canada as the country prepares for legalization. For 5 days between August 31st and September 4th, a lush, rustic resort in Hockley Valley, near Orangeville, Ontario will turn into an elaborate cannabis and wellness focused retreat meant to “expand the mind, strengthen the body and awaken the spirit.” They call it “Cannabliss,” - and according to past attendees and media such as LA Weekly, Rolling Stone, MJ Retailer, High Times and others... it really is! “The goal of Cannabliss Retreats is to empower adults by making cannabis education readily available within a welcoming community and a safe environment. After decades of misleading information, we want to inspire people to understand that this incredible plant is available to enhance our lives through medicinal healing and conscious expansion,” explained Sari Starr, Cannabliss Retreats founder. At its core, the retreat features KARE (Kannabis Accreditation Regulation and Education), a trailblazing certification program created by Cannabliss partner, Dr. Ira Price, MD, FRCPC, who is a Canadian Emergency Medicine doctor. Since late 2010, he has had a special interest focusing on Medical Cannabis. All guests attending the retreat will be certified in KARE, a program consisting of seven educational workshops taught by cannabis industry experts, cultivators, and entrepreneurs including Dr. Ira Price, MD, FRCPC. By obtaining this certification, industry advocates, professionals, employees, patients, and the canna-curious will learn industry standards backed by evidence and research to understand how to apply this unique and complex herbal medicine in everyday life. In addition to the varied educational panels to be announced soon, attendees will enjoy a range of health and wellness immersive experiences to connect with themselves and each other, including: curated family-style meals, yoga classes, an outdoor vape lounge, cannabis and cacao ceremonies, creative workshops, sound bath meditations, a sponsor’s market and a sponsor’s gift bag. Organizers say they are creating “a blissed-out experience that effortlessly blends mindfullness with education, excitement and elevation.” It truly is a transformational journey! Guests who are unable to attend the full multi-day retreat can attend the one day celebration on Sunday, September 2. (Tickets will be limited, details to follow.) Founded by Sari Starr, with the intention of creating an experience that awakens consciousness and educates the masses about the benefits of cannabis. With over 15 years of experience in building brands for lifestyle companies, Sari decided two years ago to transition her business into a cannabis creative agency, Redefining Cannabis. Through her passion for awakened consciousness, wellness and cultivating her connections she created the brand Cannabliss Retreats. Sari partnered with Dr. Ira Price, MDFRCPC, who developed the KARE program, to create the ultimate educational platform, through experience, enjoyment and total wellness. Their vision is to expand this into a retreat center that offers education and integrated methods to understand the most beneficial, personalized use of cannabis. Sari is also a certified Yogi and is a writer for Huffington Post. Media Contact : Tracy Lamourie : lamouriepr@gmail.com

Long awaited and first of its kind, Hybrid Pharm opened in early July to much fanfare and were welcomed by open arms by the community at large The goal of Hybrid Pharm is to provide a higher quality experience and therefore a higher quality of life for their patients and their community of Ottawa, Ontario. Using traditional and non-traditional methods, Hybrid Pharm embodies a balanced approach to treat the mind, the body and the soul. As Creative Director, Jenna Somerton explains, "Hybrid Pharm is an exciting new take on wellness in the community. The opening was a huge success with lots of love and support shared from friends, family and new guests alike. People were curious, albeit a little unsure at the beginning, but once the vision and concept of the pharmacy were explained, they were very intrigued. This is a beautiful team of people

looking to make some serious waves in the heath and wellness world. Through exploration of the pharmacy space in conjunction with medical uses of cannabis, this concept is going to change the way people view their health. I am extremely grateful and excited to be a part of this team moving forward." Hybrid Pharm is the project of local pharmacist and businessman Rahim Dhalla. Rahim’s plan was to start a pharmacy that would also serve as an information and access point for patients using medicinal cannabis. To help him with this vision, he enlisted Angelo Muscari, who had previously been a clinic manager at National Access Cannabis in Wellington Village. For more information visit them online at www.hybridpharm.com or stop into their Ottawa flagship located at 319 Richmond Road. They would be happy to answer any questions at all.

Tell us about your cannabis origin story? I have been using cannabis since the age of 17, thinking at that time it was purely recreational, however a few years later my sister moved next door to a wonderful woman named Grama Dee. We became good friends over the years, and during that time, she taught me that cannabis was medicinal and introduced me to the cannabis community. It was amazing to learn about this incredible group of people, who all had an illness and were treating it with cannabis. I began to realize that my relationship with cannabis wasn't just recreational, and I hadn't taken any pharmaceutical's in years. That is when it occurred to me that it was treating my illness' without me realizing it.

There were a lot of dif icult times, and I think the hardest ones were with family because I felt such a strong responsibility to educate them and have them understand the cause I was ighting for. There have been many challenges over the years, including issues with law enforcement due to my medicinal cannabis use. My entire family including those in my own household had great dif iculty understanding, accepting, and respecting my passion for the community and my need to bring attention to the Great ight. April 20, is my Mother's Birthday, and every year I make a point to spend time with her because on 4/20 I turn into Miss Dabb's for the day to support our rights to use Cannabis. Tell us about some challenges you have faced?

I continued being patient, and I didn't let things get to me including the relentless judgement and stigma. The most important and satisfying part of my journey has been having the chance to support and teach as MANY people as I can. Luckily for me, with my position as a Cannatech at Legacy 420, I have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with people on just how bene icial Cannabis can be.

Advice for women entering the cannabis community? I would tell women, dont give up, persevere and stand strong for what you believe in.

3 things everyone needs? The irst one everyone needs is to go to Legacy 420 and speak to an educated Cannatech like myself who can help you. get on the right path. All products are properly labelled allowing you to self medicate. We also have an onsite laboratory where all products are tested for contaminated and pesticides before being labelled and put on the dispensary shelves.

“Another is to become educated when it comes to prescription meds vs. natural medication and GO the natural way. And inally, EVERYONE needs the Cannabis Community, get out there and participate, support and bring attention to this beautiful plant and all its amazing bene its.

MAGAZ NE One of the best parts of the cannabis industry to me is the testimonials and all the amazing stories I get to hear about how cannabis has changed people's lives. One of the best stories I have heard to date comes from a dear friend of mine, Jean-Marc with Sublimator Warrior. For those of you that do not know this man or his wife, you truly are missing out on a beautiful piece of friendship.

When I irst meet Jean-Marc at the Sublimator Warrior booth at a cannabis event, I instantly knew I was in good company, but it was during a private and personal event that I really got to spend some time with Jean-Marc and learn a little bit about him and his journey into the cannabis industry, then I was hooked. I followed up a few days later with an over hour-long phone call where he went into detail about how much cannabis has truly changed his life.

BEYOND VAPORIZATION Two years ago Jean-Marc was not the same man he is today. In fact, he was 73 lbs heavier and on a b u n c h o f d i  e re n t pharmaceutical medications, including 30mg of Dilaudid. He was unhealthy and unhappy and knew he needed a change. It was then that a friend introduced him to CBD's and full spectrum extracts that his life began to really change, but his Dr. Was not convinced and not eager to hear about cannabis let alone prescribe it. Jean-Marc was determined to make changes and began medicating himself full time with CBD and THC as well as eating healthier and exercising. He starts his day with a smoothie with fresh cannabis leaves free from THC and medicates throughout the day with CBD & THC Consuming more cannabis than combusting and combusting very little during the day. When he returned to his Doctor six months later she took his blood pressure not once but 3 times on 3 dierent machines. His blood pressure had dropped so dramatically that she was instantly convinced the machine was broken. She was ecstatic at the thought that the prescribed meds had worked that wonderfully. Jean-Marc then asked his Dr to call the pharmacy and inquire about his prescriptions, the Dr learned that he had not in fact even illed

his medications for months on end. Confused, she begged Jean-Marc for answers and he then began explaining cannabis and cannabinoids to his very intrigued family physician. Mesmerized she listened, she even asked him to return a few days later with his meds and prescription and told him that she was fascinated with his health and this new found (to her) information. Since then his Dr has educated herself, colleagues, sta and even other patients. This story warms my heart everytime I think about it. Talk to your Doctor today. Lets help stop the stigma. One success story at a time.

MAGAZ NE I'm Ben, content director here at Adventure Squad Productions. We are an imaginative collective of cannabis enthusiasts based in the Maritimes, brought together by our shared appreciation and passion for cannabis culture. In early 2016, I relocated to New Brunswick from my hometown, Ottawa. Through a series of life events. including a marital separation, I ended up moving to Halifax in early 2018. Upon arrival, I was eager to connect with like-minded individuals and came to find High Life Social Club, an established cannabis lounge located downtown. The atmosphere is very welcoming and inclusive, providing a quintessential environment for those who embrace the cannabis lifestyle to engage and socialize. I met my co-production partner, Tish, at High Life. She invited me to join her on a camping trip which is where I was introduced to her group of friends befittingly known as, the 'Adventure Squad.' The group is a highly creative bunch with fresh, fun ideas, and a great appreciation for the outdoors and exploring. Late last year, while I was still in New Brunswick, I chose to pursue my interest in marketing and created an Instagram account featuring cannabis loving puppets. Shortly after I debuted the puppets, I was contacted by Budderweeds.com. An online Canadian cannabis entity who showed interest in the content. I was very impressed with their product quality/value, and provided them with my feedback. They responded expressing their appreciation for the evaluation at which point I saw the potential for this to evolve.

The original idea has now evolved much quicker than I had anticipated. We now have a production team of 9 and a growing roster of supporting players that occasionally join us for seshing and adventuring. One of our core motivations with Adventure Squad Productions is to produce and curate content that helps ameliorate the existing 'stoner' stereotypes which perpetuate stigmitization of the cannabis lifestyle. We all share many interests including a great appreciation for the outdoors, arts, and culture. Cannabis enhances these activities and ultimately is the unifying element that brought us all together. There are many brilliant minds on the team. We have University students and graduates. Enrolled in everything from Astro Physics, Micro Biology, Film/Media, Engineering, Nursing, etc. Not your stereotypical 'dumbed down potheads' sitting on the couch watching Bob Ross R.I.P. - We all love, Bob, btw. We also firmly believe that cannabis can be abused and in turn cause serious issues so we strive to promote informed and responsible consumption with our content. The question of what we think of legalization inspired an article's worth of discussion within the group. Our thoughts are mixed on this subject. Overall, while we agree that the pending legalization is very much progressive, and a watershed moment for Canadian cannabis culture, it is quite disappointing. Some of us have been following and advocating for the cannabis movement in this country for decades. We can see through the 'smoke and mirrors' show and are rightfully discouraged by the Liberal governments

legalization model. We will continue to provide promotional content for cannabis companies that align with our principles and vison. In fact, we recently entered an official parternership with Budderweeds.com which has the squad very excited and motivated. Some of the forward thinking ideas that have recently hatched during our brainstorming sesh's include, short films featuring the puppets and their adventures, interviews with prominent and not so well-known figures within the cannabis community. We have also been invited by a few cultivators and extracts producers here in Canada, to tour their facilities, possibly film some 'how it's made' style segments and interviews. Other upcoming plans involve expanding our content to include lifestyle segements such as music, film, food, and travel pieces. Cannabis Sanitation Program

WOMAN IN WEED WOMAN IN WEED WOMAN IN WEED Ashleigh Brown High! Canada Magazine was honoured to get to speak to Ashleigh Brown, Community Manager & Patient Liaison at Strainprint. Tell us about your cannabis origin story, specifically on how you got interested in cannabis as a career path.

MAGAZ NE

Like so many people in the cannabis industry, my movement into this space was fuelled by personal loss. 9 years ago I had a massive seizure that came out of the blue, and it changed everything. When I woke up that evening in the hospital, it was the beginning of the most difficult and painful chapter in my life. I had 12-15 seizures a day for 7 years. I didn’t just lose my health, I lost my role as a mother to two very young children, my job, my license, our home, and eventually my relationship. Two years ago this month my dearest friend came to visit me with an oral syringe full of CBD

MAGAZ NE

Ashleigh Brown

WOMAN IN WEED WOMAN IN WEED WOMAN IN WEED oil. I was skeptical but she was someone who had never stopped fighting for me, so I tried it. For the first time in 7 years, I was seizure free for 24 hours straight. I got my legal prescription via a clinic, and then…I was pretty much on my own to figure it out. I didn’t feel comfortable telling people about it, so I made social media and Google my allies. I found thousands of Canadian patients who were online, trying to figure out dosing, strain selection, terpenes, and Licensed Producers. After a few months I noticed that many of these groups were pretty toxic. New patients would ask questions and get shamed, or shut down. The advice and guidance was inconsistent and often devolved into an argument. So I founded SheCann, alongside a half dozen other women. As a closed Facebook community for legal patients, we wanted to be able to provide all that elusive information, and the resources and support to go along with it. We just

celebrated our one year ‘SheCanniversary’, and we number almost 2,000 members now, mainly women, but also a select group of supportive and respectful men. It is a completely non partisan, volunteer run space. This foray into social media connected me with some amazing humans, but the stars really aligned when Stephanie Karasick, Founder of Strainprint Technologies Ltd., and I met on Facebook. She is not only the founder of Strainprint, she is someone I am proud to call one of my very best friends. When we started to discuss how we could collaborate to help people use cannabis better, it was a natural decision for me to accept a position with Strainprint.

Tell us about some of the challenges and or adversity you have faced so far on your chosen path?

MAGAZ NE

WOMANIN INWEED WEED WOMAN IN WEED WOMAN

FEATURE On the SheCann front, my lead admin Jaeme has gracefully and enthusiastically stepped into the role of running the community on a daily basis, which means that I can focus on getting the patient voice heard in Canada, and eventually the world! Good humans are essential for overcoming obstacles and challenges.

Ashleigh Brown I had been out of the workforce for almost a decade due to my illness, so I had no idea how I would even pretend to know what a career looked like. In short, I lacked confidence in my own ability to meet the needs of my patient community and the expectations of any employer. It was also really important to continue to serve SheCann and grow the community alongside any role I took on in the industry, which is a tall order, especially since, in all honesty, I still have 12 seizures a month.

How did you move past those challenges? In short? Good humans on all fronts. The team at Strainprint has been tremendously supportive of my desire to stay at the helm of SheCann as Founder, which has the added gift of allowing me to remain connected to patients on a daily basis, and to share the data that Strainprint is now famous for: data that helps patients medicate mindfully and have success in their cannabis use.

Advice for other women entering the cannabis industry? Don’t forget to be kind: you will be busy, you will be discouraged, you will be wrapped up in it all, but then, more than ever, find a way to give of yourself. It doesn’t take any time or money to praise someone, or smile, or say thank you. Own your shit: you will make some mistakes, and you will make some unpopular decisions, but that doesn’t matter nearly as much as what you do AFTER the fact. Take radical responsibility and just do the ‘next right thing.’ My daughters are learning to master this, and it’s pretty damn inspiring. Find a few good humans. Hold each other up, and also, love the shit out of them. If you’re as lucky as I was, you’ll end up working with them, and that will make the battles easier and the joy deeper.

Three things you feel everyone needs? Compassion, curiosity, and a jar of Nutella.

CONCERTS

& COMPLIANCE

We are now in the final season of Canadian cannabis prohibition. The plant will be federally legal this fall and with this comes a huge wake up call for the marketing departments of some licensed producers. Once the Cannabis Act comes into force on October 17, many of the current tactics utilized by LPs will be banned. Let’s take a look at all the ways that cannabis companies are currently skirting the ACMPR marketing regulations and spreading their brands. Licensed producers such as Tweed, Aurora and UP Cannabis have all sponsored music festivals over the summer. LP’s new recreational brands can be seen at a variety of events across the country. Under the Cannabis Act, sponsorship of any public event is forbidden. Health Canada has responded to this non-compliance by stating that it’s prepared to crack down on producers who are sponsoring music festivals and other gatherings. The department warns that it is paying attention and has noticed other promotional activities that violate Bill C-45. HC hasn’t been as clear about these other types of promotional activities and hasn’t publically penalized any companies for breaking the advertising rules, yet. Before the new bill comes into effect, licensed producers are technically supposed to be abiding by the marketing regulations set out under the ACMPR. Those regulations treat cannabis as a narcotic and state that no advertising to the general public is allowed. And any advertisement that is created

should have the symbol "N" clearly and conspicuously displayed in the upper left-hand quarter. It is safe to say that licensed producers are simply not allowed to advertise using billboards and other OOH tactics, but they do. I’ve yet to seen an “N” symbol on any of them either. Under the upcoming Cannabis Act, promotion by means of a testimonial or endorsement is completely forbidden. It is yet to be seen how this will play out with partnerships like Tweed and Snoop Dogg. Testimonial and endorsement are ambiguous terms, the words used in these regulations need to be defined. LP Invictus appointed music legend Gene Simmons as their “Chief Evangelist Officer” – is this allowed? UP will be naming strains after numerous The Tragically Hip song names – is this allowed? Beleave has signed a “brand licensing agreement” with film stars Jay and Silent Bob that allows them to develop proprietary strains together – is this allowed? We don’t know and we won’t know until the smoke clears. There is some serious clarifying to do on the part of Health Canada. Licensed producers are not allowed to purchase advertising on social media platforms to spread awareness or sell products. However, they can privately pay influencers to post on their own social media accounts about the brand. They have also started enlisting these influencers to purchase advertising on their behalf, running ads for the LP on social media coming from the influencer and not HIGH! CANADA MAGAZINE

the company. There is no mention of this specific tactic being restricted in the regulations. However, this may fall under the restricted testimonial/endorsement or general advertising tactics depending on how the monitoring agency sees it. Licensed producers are not allowed to market towards the general public currently, but they can advertise towards their own patient base through email lists and other tactics. They can market towards those that have announced themselves as marijuana users through cannabis-specific publications and websites (such as High Canada). They can create a true following and identity through social media. Think branding, not advertising. Under both the ACMPR and Cannabis Act regulations, nonpromotional information is not considered advertising. Inform your audience, don’t sell them. With all that being said, I personally disagree with both the current and upcoming marketing regulations that this industry is subject to. I completely understand why licensed producers are

acting the way they are and are taking advantage of these next few months before the new rules officially kick in. If the legal market is ever going to have a chance at competing with the grey market they need to brand and advertise in more effective ways. If they aren’t allowed to do this, the “creative compliance” will continue.

Why Health & Safety in the Cannabis Workplace is a good thing! The scope of cannabis cultivation, processing, and retailing is changing and expanding throughout Canada and the world. There are some of the big questions that need answering right now. Among them, how to work at identifying workplace safety hazards, exposure risks, and mitigation strategies within an almost legal cannabis industry. Recognizing workplace hazards in the cannabis industry, including within the growing, harvesting, and processing environments is going to be a crucial part of legalization and applying health and safety programs in the workplace, such as hazard assessments and personal protective equipment assessments are going to quickly become the way things are done. Period. Identifying ergonomic issues alone on cannabis farms is going to be a tremendous help to cannabis farmers across the board. Overall this is an important issue because it protects the well being of employers, visitors and customers. Looking after Health and Safety makes good business sense. Workplaces which neglect health and safety risk prosecution, may lose staff, and may increase costs and reduce profitability.

Those of us who are working within the cannabis industry can feel so fortunate to be here that we can sometimes forget to pay attention to health and safety procedures in the cannabis industry compared to the general workplace. I find excitement or inexperience when working with new cannabis extraction technologies or equipment can often cause us to forget simple rules to follow according to regular workplace WHIMIS training. There are many cannabis workplace standards and equipment that varies from growing to extraction, so if you are new the industry be prepared to learn safety produces with machinery or handling corrosive chemicals or solvents. The number one rule to remember with any career in the cannabis workplace is to pay attention to your preparation to any task, the ventilation of your work area and the temperature of the chemicals you are working with. If you find yourself taking care of cannabis plants, you will get to know phosphoric acid. This acid is used in combination of growing nutrients and it can burn your skin if you come into contact with this chemical commonly known as PH down. Simply wearing gloves can avoid burns when pouring

PH down into hydroponic systems or water mixtures. Be aware when working with heating up solvents to extract cannabis oils because burns can often occur by vapor versus physical contact with boiling chemicals. Don’t learn the hard way and make sure your eyes are protected from chemical vapors when working with any open cannabis oil extraction system indoors or outdoors. It can take 30 min or a few hours after your eyes are exposed to harmful vapors from boiling solvents to feel burnt

and sting as well as impair your vision. I have run into trouble in the cannabis workplace when eye wash equipment was nowhere close to me a few hours after my eyes were exposed to boiling solvent vapors and I was not prepared for the intense pain that followed. I highly recommend to have a chemical eyewash safety station or kit close by to any area cannabis extractions with solvents are performed or buy a chemical eye wash kit for home.

They are highly sought after cannabis themed caterers and event planners Huge fans of full bud extraction so while their baked goods do have a cannabis smell and lavour to them, they are also some of the best you will ever try - Full bud is also my favourite type of edible and is usually best for those dealing with pain, anxiety and sleep issues. BRNT Designs Product Launch Party @ Coldstream Fine Art presented by RN MKR.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the BRNT Designs product launch of their latest bong and accessories. Very chic art deco! BRNT Designs was founded by four University of Alberta students who wanted to build a better bong. I was lucky enough to bump into BRNT CEO, Simon Grigenas. Simon what your inspiration for design? Our inspiration for design differs from product to product. Everything from Canadian contemporary architecture to elements of Nordic and Japanese inspiration. We use facets and geometry in our products to really enhance not only the tactile experience of the user but also to accent the product in any light or setting. Different trends such as the increase in the use of the material of concrete in the home inspires new product lines and categories for us too! We love finding new and creative materials to bring our designs to life. What was your inspiration for the Hexagon? The Hexagon design was inspired by the hexagonal shape and geometric faces of many modern architecture based projects here in Canada.

Specifically, the Royal Ontario Museum and work of architecture, Daniel Libeskind. His crystalline inspiration for the ROM and geometric focus led to our non-traditional “bong” design. Their quest for a better bong has led them to something futuristic, part art deco, durable, dish water and freezer proof. Now this piqued my curiosity as I was taking to the mother of the inventor himself as she said “freezer”. Curiously, I have done a lot of bong things, but never would have thought of freezing it, so as we speak, the new office bong is in the freeze. The Hexagon bong comes with some great accessory pieces; the rolling tray, the Briq ashtray and a Faro pipe. It was a wonderful evening, and I was lucky enough to get the inside track on Simon as I was hanging with his mother. I bumped into her as I noticed she had her travel bong, now anyone that is cool enough to have a travel bong, I have to meet!

Working with cannabis growers to help produce the highest quality plant.

My name is Melissa Lalonde, I have been smoking cannabis for about 8 years now and found it as an amazing alternative. I got in a ski accident three years ago. I tried so many different pain killers but they all made me sick and lethargic. I found smoking before bed helped with the pain physically and eased myself mentally. As the pain started to subside more I found myself able to practice yoga, smoking before a practice helped my mind relax and my body more able to do poses with deeper stretches. I felt more connected to my practice and more In tune with my body.
