Big Barn Tailgate

WELCOME W ELCOME TO THE H I G H H O P E S B I G B A R N TA I LGAT E ! This year, more than ever, we are thrilled to host you at our 125-acre farm. Our June event, held on the second Saturday of June for the past 36 years, is our most significant fundraiser and accounts for 20% of our annual operating budget. This event could not happen without our corporate partners’ financial support and the countless hours and hard work of our dedicated event volunteers. Please see this program for a complete listing. This past year posed a challenging environment for fundraising. Due to the pandemic, High Hopes made the difficult, yet necessary, decision to cancel its annual June gala. We quickly pivoted to a virtual event which was held on May 16th of 2020. Though the event did not secure the level of funding our in-person Gala typically brings in, High Hopes was still able to raise critical funds to help offset some of the impact of COVID-19. Now with the development of multiple vaccines to aid in the fight against the pandemic and a renewed sense of hope and our hearts full of gratitude, High Hopes is hosting the B IG BA RN TAI LGAT E . This will be a celebration of you and our vibrant, philanthropic community whose support makes it possible for High Hopes to provide the important equine assisted services where horses and humans together improve lives. So let’s don our dancing shoes and cowboy boots and kick-up our heels to the extensive music repertoire of local sensation SUGAR.

H IG H H O P E S TO U CH E S T H E LI V E S OF I NDIV IDUA L S W H O L I V E W I T H PH YS I C AL, CO GN ITIV E & E M OT I O N AL DI SAB I LI TI E S . Over the past year, High Hopes operated at a limited capacity, which led us to reimagine the way we offer our services. Like so many, we’ve looked at the realities of the past year as a chance to get creative and found ways to meet the needs of our community. We developed programs for individuals with memory challenges, made virtual connections when in-person gatherings were not possible, and provided expanded services that addressed the mental health challenges brought about by the isolation resulting from COVID-19.

What we also did was work to ensure that High Hopes continued to serve everyone who could benefit from our program, regardless of their financial circumstances. This can only be accomplished by having a robust and sustainable scholarship program. Despite having fewer participants, financial aid requests rose by over 60% as the financial hardships of the past year fell particularly hard on many of our participant families. Tonight, with the in-kind support of Dreamscapes Marketing & Design we will premiere a short video that demonstrates the continued impact High Hopes has on the life of our community. We ask that you pause briefly in your conversations to watch these individuals tell their stories of hope and courage and then consider supporting the 2021 Scholarship Drive. With your help tonight you are providing hope for a life filled with possibilities not disabilities. Thank you!

High Hopes would like to thank DREAMSCAPES MARKETING & DESIGN for their generous donation of their time and talent in creating tonight’s video.

T H E H I G H H O P E S TA I LGAT E IS IN THE MEMORY OF

JUDY LIGHTFOOT As an early volunteer for LCVERA (Lower Connecticut Valley Educational Riding Association) which later became High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc., Judy embraced the joy and potential that she saw in therapeutic riding. Recognizing the powerful connection between horses and humans of all ages and abilities, she devoted her life to promoting therapeutic riding. As a Trustee, past Board Chair, Event Chair, and organizational leadership within High Hopes for 40 years, Judy has had a profound impact on the creation of the well-known organization that we are today. Her involvement at the national level with PATH Intl. and Horses and Humans Research Foundation were an extension of her strong commitment to this field and the vital work we do. Judy’s legacy will live into the future as she will remain forever a part of our essence.

We are proud to support High Hopes and its mission to foster a community where horses and humans improve lives.
