Decomposed body of woman found Michelle Boshoff

hroughout December residents of Lydenburg and the surrounding areas were asked if they may have seen Miss Engilic Victoria Monnia Thompson (20). Posters stating that she was missing were put up all over town in the hope that her family and the police could discover her whereabouts. She was reported missing on 15 December 2011. Constable Ramodikwe from the Lydenburg SAPS confirmed on Thursday that the police found the badly decomposed body of Miss Thompson. It was found near Misty Mountains, between Lydenburg and Sabie on the Longtom Pass. According to the SAPS her brother, Mr Jerome Thompson (21), was able to show the police where her body was hidden. The police were able to find the body of Miss Thompson next to the road hidden under branches. He is under investigation and has been arrested for the murder of his sister. Mr Thompson has since appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate Court.

DA says it could be the end of MTPA! FOLLOWING on the report of last week in the Highlands Panorama News, the DA’s Willie Venter gave the following feedback: The announcement of Mr Jerry Ngomane as Board Chairperson, and Ms Clara Ndlovu as Deputy Chairperson of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), clearly shows the disdain Economic Development and Tourism MEC, Mr Norman Mokoena, has for conservation and tourism in the province. According to media reports, MEC Mokoena claims that Board members were carefully screened before they were appointed, and that the Board is now made up of “experienced individuals in the fields of politics and administration”. It is rather unfortunate that MEC Mokoena based his decision on politics and administration, as the MTPA is a conservation and tourism agency, and desperately in need of dedicated and experienced leadership in both those fields. Despite MEC Mokoena’s confidence, the appointment of these members to the Board clearly reflects how the ANC uses the MTPA and other parastatals as empowerment vehicles and handsome reward for senior party members, who have failed elsewhere. Ngomane was quietly removed as Executive Mayor in 2004, amid a storm of allegations of tinkering with the supply chain, and deployed to Gauteng.
yet the towns of Lydenburg, Graskop and Sabie have deteriorated to such an extent that they are attractions no more. The municipal camping grounds in Sabie and Graskop have gone from high income earners to disgusting liabilities, and infrastructure is almost non-existent. The DA believes that MEC Mokoena had the perfect opportunity to set the MTPA right, and failed to do so – despite his “careful screening process”, he has just hammered in the final nail in this beleaguered agency’s coffin. Instead of interviewing and appointing suitable conservationists and tourism professionals, he chose to stick with the incompetence of party faithful. This clearly shows MEC Mokoena’s complete lack of understanding of the tourism sector, as well as his complete disregard for conservation issues. The DA believes that MEC Mokoena’s decision will lead to the final collapse of the MTPA, and that dark days lie ahead for tourism and conservation in our province.

Kruger rhino poachers get 25 years

hree rhino poachers were sentenced to 25 years each by the Phalaborwa Regional Court on Tuesday, said a SA National Parks (SANParks) spokesman. The three, all Mozambicans, were found guilty of illegally hunting rhino in the Kruger National Park in July 2010. SANParks CEO David Mabunda said the sentence was harsher than it had been in other similar cases. “This is an indication that, as a country, we are taking more stringent measures in the fight against rhino poaching,” he said. Aselmo Baloyi, Jawaki Nkuna and Ismael Baloyi were also found guilty of possessing an illegal firearm (an automatic rifle), possession of a firearm (a hunting rifle) and possession of ammunition. They were caught with two recently poached rhino horns, an assault rifle, a hunting rifle and an axe. Mabunda said that last year 232 suspected poachers were arrested, and 26 were shot dead in fights with the authorities.

’n Flamink is ’n mooi een met sy sierlike lang nek. Maar as dit skeef trek lyk hy ook maar heel krom. Vir ’n sekonde flits ’n kameelperd met ’n seer nek ook deur my gedagtes. Dit moet ’n l-a-n-g pyn wees weens die l-a-n-g nek. Ek het die humor gesoek deur my pyn en lyding. Maar opstaan sal ek moet. Met een oog het ek die wekker beloer want om jou kop te draai en terug te kruip onder die komberse in is nie ’n opsie nie. Teen 07:00 was die kans vir terugsak in die bed min. Dis nou of nooit. Opstaan moet jy opstaan. Vir hoofpyn drink mens gou ’n pil. Maar nek-dinge is anders. Dis seerder as ’n stamp op ’n maermerrie en ’n stamp teen jou gottabeentjie (ja, ’n gottabeentjie). Tandpyn kan ook nie so erg wees nie, ek glo ook nie ’n maagkramp kan so seer wees nie. Dis ’n dowwe pyn wat agter in jou blaaie begin en krampe trek tot in die verflenterde nek. Die nek staan nie ’n kans teen soveel aanslae nie. Nie lank nie dan is jou hele boonste-helfte amper in ’n spasma. ’n Massering sal help, maar wie het nou tyd voor werk vir so iets. En om dan in die kar te klim, wat nog te sê van aantrek, is onmoontlik. Dis dan wanneer jy party kledingstukke ’n ruskans gee vir die dag. Heelwat later as die pyn vervaag het, raak jy rustig. Dan is die hele kaboedel heel amusant en wonder jy waaroor jy so gekla het. Veral as die dokter se gawe inspuiting sy verlam-werk begin doen. Hierby staan ek egter: Broerders en susters… ’n pyn in die nek is iets om mee rekening te hou. Al is dit net om flaminke en kameelperde voor jou geestesoog te sien.

Rekenaars REKENAARS is by verre die grootste euwel van ons tyd - politici uitgesluit natuurlik! Dit is egter ook die een ding waarsonder ons nie kan klaarkom nie. Dit is hoekom ek my seun so ’n bietjie aangehelp het om in daardie rigting te studeer en werk. Die argument was logies. Hoe meer mense se werk van rekenaars afhanklik word, hoe meer mense gaan rekenaars gebruik, hoe meer gaan breek en hoe meer moet herstel word = goeie werkvooruitsigte, veral vir ’n blanke Afrikaanse man in hierdie sirkusland van ons. Nie plek vir narre in dié sirkus nie, daar is duisende Julius Malemas wat nog oudisies doen vir die narposte. Hier by ons, produseer ons die koerant met rekenaars.
Wat gaan met ons ouers aan? Word hul kinders nie maniere geleer nie. Kinders wat van Gr 0 af in die skool kom, daar word nie asb of dankie gesê nie, ook nie tannie nie, net jy en jou. Die onderwysers en kantoorpersoneel moet hul maniere leer. Selfs as die kinders in die kantoor kom bel, kan jy nie glo, hoe daar met die ouers gepraat word nie!! Wat die ergste is, is die ouers sonder trots. Wat het geword van "dis my eerste kind" wat skooltoe kom, ek is so trots daarop. Nee, skoolgelde is definitief nie 'n prioriteit nie, hul het die vorige jaar al geweet om te begroot, vir hul 1steling se gelde, maar Februarie ontdek hul eers, hul het nie geld nie. Selfs as die ouers inbel, word daar net gesê "dis Sarie" wat praat, hoe gaan dit, asof dit jou grootste pel is? Hoe kan ons van die kinders verwag, om goed gemanierd en verantwoordelik te wees, en telefoon etiket te hê, as dit nie by die ouers begin nie. Dankie vir die goeie ouers wat dit wel doen.
Nie een rekenaar is dieselfde as ’n ander een nie. Met uiteenlopende hardeware en verskillende sagteware en unieke data op, is geen twee rekenaars dieselfde nie. Om van die chaos sin te maak, gebruik mens ’n bediener (regte naam = server). Teoreties kan mens jou koerantbladsy op die server bêre en elkeen van die honderd wat op daardie bladsy moet werk, laai hom vanaf die server, sit sy komma iewers by en “save” hom weer op die server. Maklik. Maar, party rekenaars werk soos my Chev nog op “leaded”. Die nuwe groenes werk op Windows 7. Dan bly ons mos by met die tye en gradeer so nou en dan ons hoofprogram (Corel-Draw) op. Toe vind ons uit die nuwe “unleaded” program is vrot van die probleme. Nou is ons terug na die ou een. Werk mooi, soos my V8! Maar nou kan jy geen dokument wat met die nuwe geskep was, oopmaak nie. Selfs nie as jy hulle “save” as ’n vorige weergawe nie.

Om stukkende rekenaars en stelsels te kry om saam te werk is uiters moeilik en besonder frustrerend. Rekenaars is oral. Uitspankaravaanpark sê dankie Oudword is nie vir sissies nie Pieter en Esther Gertzen, Uitspan Karavaanpark Lydenburg skryf: Dit is met groot dankbaarheid dat hierdie brief geskryf word. Eerstens wil ons ons Hemselse Vader uit ons harte bedank en eer gee dat daar geen lewensverlies was tydens die oorstroming wat ons dorp getref het nie, Ons harte gaan uit na almal wat verliese gely en trauma beleef het. Dit is ’n skokervaring, veral as dit ’n tweede keer
met jou gebeur. Ons was verstom oor die meelewing wat ons hier by die karavaanpark ontvang het. Daar is ’n lang lys van mense wat ’n helpende hand uitgedeel het. Daar was kos, klere en komberse by die kantoor afgelaai, selfs plaaswerkers om te help met die skoonmaak van die park. Hoe bedank mens die persone wat gehelp het om gruis te strooi op ’n verspoelde pad en die karavane uit die park na droeë grond te sleep? Past. Andre Hanekom, Past. Dries Strydom, Ds. Fred en Ds. Antoinette Wilson asook Ds. Vermaak, baie dankie vir julle omgee. Julle besoeke en ondersteuning het vir ons baie beteken. Ons wil ons kinders en kleinkinders, ander familie en vriende bedank vir die besoeke, telefoonoproepe en sms’e van bemoediging en julle omgee. Japie en Eunice, julle was nog altyd in moeilike tye ons ware steunpilare. Aan ons inwoners wil ons ook net baie dankie sê vir julle ondersteuning en lojaliteit. Julle almal is vir ons baie spesiaal.

U omstandighede verander dalk so drasties dat u baie afhanklik gaan wees van persone wat u moet

Ek hoop dat jy ’n goeie advokaat ken en dat jy ’n ekstra dik tjekboek het, want ek kry die gevoel dat jy dit gouer nodig gaan kry as wat jy dink. Bestee eerder die geld en tyd om die paaie wat so vrot is te herstel.

Veiligheidskenmerke sluit in ABS met EBD, ISOFIX kinderstoeltjie montering, en ses lugsakke. Die verbetering in die voorkoms, binneruim en dinamika van die nuwe Captiva is duidelik merkbaar. Die toevoeging van die 2.2 diesel met outomatiese ratkas, rond die Captiva reeks nou af. Hyundai hou pretdag TEN spyte van trietsige weer, met motreën wat kort-kort die atmosfeer gedemp het, het Hyundai Lydenburg Saterdag ’n lekker pretdag met ’n karnaval atmosfeer aangebied. Vir die wat gaan kyk het, was die hele reeks Hyundai voertuie te sien, insluitend die motor van die jaar finalis, die Elantra, wat terloops tans voorloop in die lesers meningspeiling in al die motorblaaie. New Tiida in 2013? Nissan plans to preview its Tiida replacement – called Invitation – at the Geneva auto show before it is launched in 2013. THE Invitation concept will be unveiled in March, 2012, at the Geneva auto show, to join the Japanese automaker’s Micra and Juke in the hotly-contested compact hatchback market. According to Nissan, the Invitation brings “fresh style, innovation and excitement to the mainstream market”. The car’s silhouette is dominated by a character line, or “squash line” as Nissan calls it, to add dynamism to its profile. Inside, the cabin is practical and modern with a high level of “purposeful technology features”. François Bancon, Deputy Division General Manager of Product Strategy and Product Planning Division, said: “The name we have given to this concept is self-explanatory. It is designed to be inviting thanks to its sensuous exterior design and generous and comfortable interior space, cleverly packaged within compact overall dimensions.” Not much mention is made of the concept’s powertrain, but Nissan is aiming for a CO2 target of under 100g/km. Features will include, for the first time in the B-segment, Nissan’s Around View Monitor to make reversing and parallel parking as stress-free as possible and Safety Shield Technologies that interact with the driving environment to keep the driver aware of what’s happening around the car. This car has got soul! AS if the Soul wasn’t bold enough, Kia has shown off a Track’ster concept with some serious attitude at the Chicago auto show.

This Soul is a visual assault, starting with its conspicuous Whiteout and Inferno Orange paint scheme, lightweight carbon fibre trim for the signature Kia grille, headlights swept back over the front wheelarches and a gaping lower intake flanked by overstyled LED fog lamps. But the outrageous three-door’s appearance, with bulging wheelarches and custom 19-inch wheels shod with Michelin high-performance tyres, also conceals some of the concept’s more stand-out features. Kearns continued: “We saw the Track’ster as a performanceinspired concept that could spend time on the road and racetrack.

New Mitsubishi Outlander MITSUBISHI claims, with some justification, to have invented the term “crossover” and now, 11 years after the introduction of the vehicle for which the word was coined, the third generation Outlander is ready to launch at the Geneva auto show in March. And let us compliment Mitsubishi right up front for giving us a teaser image that actually shows us the car, the whole car and nothing but the car. The new Outlander, says Mitsubishi, is about the same size as the model it replaces, and follows a key design brief to keep it “solid, safe and simple” with substantial body elements and clean surfaces. The same uncluttered look continues inside the car, it says, with padded surfaces, softtouch finish, silver accents and gloss black appliqués on a clean, driverfocused dashboard. The new Outlander will be available at launch in Europe with either two or all-wheel drive with either two-litre petrol or 2.2-litre turbodiesel power. Depending on the market, auto stop / start will be available, as well as a new six-speed auto transmission

Cruze SW on the cards? THE latest addition to Chevrolet’s Cruze range, a station wagon variant, has been leaked onto the Internet ahead of its official unveiling at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Measuring 4 678 mm, the Cruze SW is only 81 mm longer than its saloon sibling but will offer 500 dm3 of luggage space when loaded to the window 3 line and as much as 1 500 dm when loaded to the ceiling with the rear seats folded. The sole image that has been released reveals a sloping roofline crowned with standard-fitment roof rails and a roof-mounted spoiler with integrated brakelamp. The SW model will also receive a number of stylistic upgrades (read mildly restyled nose, new alloy-wheel styles and some subtle refinements to the cabin) that will find their way onto other models in the line-up for 2012. Although the engine line-up has not yet been fully confirmed, it’s fair to assume that the current saloon’s 1,6-, 1,8- and 2,0-litre (Europe only) petrol engines will find their way into the SW along with the 2,0-litre turbodiesel. One engine that has been earmarked for the SW is a new 1,7-litre VCDi diesel. This unit develops 96 kW and features start/stop technology that helps keep CO2 emissions to a very respectable 119 g/km. General Motors South Africa is currently evaluating the possibility of bringing the Cruze hatch to our market but there is no word as to whether the SW will be under consideration. Carmag.co.za
Key features of the new Outlander include advanced safety systems (forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning and active cruise control), new dual-zone climate control, a power tail-gate, full third-row seating, flat-floor cargo area, tilt and telescopic steering column and 'wide vision' xenon headlights. It will also have a fashionable “eco-friendly driving system” to tell the driver when he or she is driving at maximum efficiency. After its Geneva debut the third-generation Outlander will be released first in Russia in mid-2012, in western Europe in the third quarter of the year, of followed by Japan, Oceania, China and North America, with the South African release due in the second half of 2013. From 2013 in Europe, there will also be a battery-based plug-in hybrid version, based o n t h e company's Miev t e c h n o l o g y. Nico Cross was op sy pos verlede Woensdag met die afskop van die Sanlam Kansa Gholfdag vir die Laeveldstreek by die Lydenburg Gholfklub. Verskeie spelers het die dag hul deel vir Kansa gedoen. Van links is me. Isobel Janse van Rensburg (voorsitter Kansa Lydenburg), ’n verteenwoordiger van Kansa Laeveld, Jacques Lombard (Streeksbestuurder, Cansa Care Centre), Jeanette Kruger-Hibbens, Nico Cross (organiseerder van die dag en toernooi), en twee vrywilligers van Kansa Lydenburg.
Die Puma Rugbyspan het hul gholfstokke saam geswaai vir die opedag van die Sanlam KANSA Gholfdag se Laeveldstreek. Saam met hulle (in die middel) is me. Jeanette Kruger-Hibbens (Mrs United Nations Mpumalanga), wat altyd daar is om haar deel vir organisasies soos Kansa by te dra. Dankie aan die Lydenburg Gholfklub wat dit moontlik gemaak het vir die Sanlam Kansa Gholfdag om daar plaas te vind en Nico Cross van Cross Makelaars wat elke jaar hierdie gholfdae reël.

Sy ontvang ook in die ander 90cm items ’n 7de en 8ste plek. Vir die Mpumalanga span ontvang hul 2, 2de plekke en ’n derde plek. Die naweek het sy vir die Mpumalnga skole in Badplaas in die meter klasse deelgeneem en ontvang ’n 1ste en derde plek asook in die dresseerklasse ’n 1ste en 2de plek.
