The Late Cllr Madilane Moses Marobela, Executve Mayor of Thaba Chweu Municipality.
COUNCILLOR Moses Marobela, Mayor of Thaba Chweu Municipality, passed away at Nelspruit Mediclinic on Friday. He was originally inaugurated as Mayor in January 2011 and again on 19 August 2011. During his inauguration, Mr. Marobela, a family man, thanked his mother Ms. Sophy Sesinyana Marobela for his upbringing and support. He said that his wife Rachel was his biggest supporter. They met as students at the Sekhukhune College and at the time of his inauguration, they were married for 23 years. Cllr Madilane Moses Marobela was born in Lydenburg (Vermont) in 1965 and moved to Leroro (Mphato) village in 1969, returning to Lydenburg in 1989. He furthered his studies after school at Sekhukhune College of Education where he completed his Secondary Teachers Diploma, majoring in Afrikaans, Librarianship and Biology. He enrolled at UNISA and obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education
majoring in Education and History. He also obtained an Honours Degree in Education Management. Mayor Marobela leaves his wife Rachel, and children Thato, Lerato and Akelang. A tribute by Mr Frik Rousseau, leader of the Freedom Front Plus in Lydenburg: Mayor Marobela brought political stability to the Thaba Chweu Municipality. Under his tenure, business confidence has also improved. This is evident through various projects undertaken by the Private Sector to improve local infrastructure. The Mayor showed his humanity in many ways, especially with the fire disasters last year at Lelievlei and in Mashishing. Mr. Rousseau said that during his long political career he served under several mayors, and that in his opinion, Mayor Marobela was the best. He has lost a friend and on behalf of the FF+, conveyed his sympathy to the family.

Vragmotor val om
DINSDAG. Die bestuurder van ’n splinternuwe vragmotor het vanaf die Longtompas die verkeersirkel by die Heads teen ’n hoë snelheid genader, om die sirkel probeer jaag en sy vragmotor omgegooi. Die bestuurder was ongedeerd, maar die passasier het sy skouer gebreek. Frik Rousseau.

A couple from Minnesota, USA visited Coromandel outside Lydenburg. They were involved and helped out with the renovation of the Shalom Church Centre building. They painted the whole church and replaced the old doors with new ones. “We wish to give all the glory to God for sending these people to come and help us. We also thank the people of Lydenburg who are praying for our ministry,” said Pastor Johannes Ramashala of the Shalome Church Centre.

SINCE Monday 4 June, Potloodspruit, Kellysville, Skhila, Ext 2 and parts of Mashishing experience a total power outage every night from 6pm to 9pm or later. The explanation from the Municipality is that it is complete overloading of the system due to the cold weather. Everybody comes home from work, switches on geysers, heaters, stoves and other electrical appliances and it is simply too much for the grid to deal with. The Municipality state that these outages the past week were not load shedding, they were unforeseen. The Municipality has to issue a formal notice, signed by the Municipal Manager in the event of load shedding, or so called “balancing” and at the time of going to press this had yet not been done. To make matters worse, on Wednesday evening one of the Municipal electricians was instructed to turn off power to the industrial area until after peak time in an effort to reduce load as it is not a residential area, but somehow he managed to turn off all the areas stated above completely, the explanation was “miscommunication between the electricians”. Other areas in Lydenburg have also experienced outages within the last week, the longest being 14 hours with no power. On Sunday 10 June, by 10.00pm, the entire Lydenburg was in darkness as one after the other grid became overloaded and tripped out. The same occurred on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. these outages is that two months ago in a Lydenburg Business Chamber meeting, members of the Chamber were assured by the Municipality and Escom that Lydenburg’s power problems were a thing of the past and there would not be outages as experienced last winter. In fact the current outages are more frequent and longer in duration. Development in Lydenburg continues unabated while there is not enough power for the current residents or businesses where is the power going to come from for all these new housing developments? Illegal connections are also contributing to the problem. The Municipal after hours or emergency number is not answered at all, it just rings or connects to a fax machine and none of the electricians or Technical Department answer their phones either, so residents are truly left to sit it out in the dark, with no idea when power will be restored. The problem does not just lie with excessive demand, the maintenance and upgrading of existing structures is not up to standard and there also seems to be a lack of skill involved in fault finding too. Until these issues are addressed residents can expect rolling blackouts and we would like to appeal to all residents to please use electricity sparingly and considerately, especially during peak times. tudents from Entheos Christian School have always been community minded and try in many ways to show their support for our Town by organising and participating in projects that serve the community.

The latest project that our school as a whole has taken on is collecting canned food for the Koskas Project that is an on-going project that CMR uses to get food donations for the underprivileged in our town. One student even took it upon himself to arrange for a Civvies day where the payment was a can or 2 of food because he felt we did not have enough! We are very proud of our students for their initiative and look forward to helping the CMR as much as we can.

Betaal! MY oorlede pa het (hoofsaaklik met verwysing na motorpaaiemente) altyd gesê daar kom ’n einde aan betaal, maar nie aan sukkel nie. Hy was deels reg. Dit is so, as jy sukkel met iets omdat dit nie reg werk nie of stukkend is, gaan jy aanhou sukkel. So, koop ’n nuwe. Vier van die vyf motors in my huishouding is betaal, maar die nuutste is 4 jaar oud en die oudste 42 jaar! Al vyf loop, maar jy werk (en sukkel) om die ou strydrosse aan die gang te hou. Wat moet ek doen? Vir ma, sussie, boetie en my elke vyf jaar nuwes koop? Daar is geen manier nie. Die gesamentlike paaiemente om dié voertuie te vervang sal R40 000 per maand kos. Dit is as ek afskaal en kleiner
gaan. Ek kla nie. Baie huishoudings in hierdie land het nie ’n enkele motor nie. My ou voertuie se gesamentlike boekwaarde is niks, so as jy vashou, is daar geen inruilwaarde nie. Maar kom ons wees realisties. Al is jy deel van topbestuur by ’n myn of in die staatsdiens of die munisipaliteit, moet jy benewens jou voertuig, betaal vir jou blyplek (huur of eie eiendom), vir krag en dienste, jy moet aantrek en eet en jy moet die kinders aantrek, laat eet en deur die skool / universiteit kry. Baie huishoudings het meer as een selfoon (dikwels ’n kontrakfoon), ’n TV (of twee), ’n klankstelsel, ’n tafelrekenaar en miskien ’n skootrekenaar of twee. Daar is internetkontrakte, telefoontyd, drinkgoed en by party, rookgoed. Daar is skoonmaakgoed, toiletware en as jy ander mense help met werk ’n huishulp en tuindienste of ’n tuintegnikus. Daar is batterye vir die ketoetertjies en vuurmaakhout vir die braai.
Jy’t seker my liefste, klein Dollie al baie gehoor en gelees, van kleintjies, reeds dood wat sonstraaltjies hier gewees het. Maar weet jy, ek weet van ’n kindjie wat nou nog die lewe geniet wat soos ’ koel fris morewindjie verdrywe my smart en verdiet. Haar vriendelike en vrolike gesiggie met ogies wat altyd deur lag. As jy al die goeters het en onderhou, kan jy jouself beskou as ’n ryk mens. Maar selfs die mynbestuurder of direkteur moet maar die sommetjies maak en jy sal agterkom dit is nie maklik nie. Wat van die wat nie eers ’n kombers het teen die koue nie. Of die inwoners by Lelievlei, Wenakker, die ouetehuis, Duncia, Sanel of enige van die inrigtings wat afhanklik is van kwynende staatsbydraes en moeilike ondersteuning vanaf mense met empatie? Waar gaan dit alles eindig? Jy kan afskaal, maar wanneer jy nie meer jou munisipale dienste kan betaal nie, wat dan? Wat het geword van die staat en munisipaliteite se sosiale verpligtinge? Dié het verander in werkplekke met vet salarisse. Gaan ons jaar na jaar maar gedienstig die tariefverhogings aanvaar (dit is beter as om sonder krag te sit) en aanhou tot ons nie meer kan nie? Wat dan? By daardie tyd is ons reserwes ook uitgeput. Klaarpraat!

Budget Brawl leaves TCM Management in trouble THE budget participation meeting of the Thaba Chweu Municipality on Monday evening, had residents and taxpayers up in arms. At the designated meeting time of six o clock, the power went off. This irritated the about 40 people
attending, especially since some of them had experienced occasional power outages for more than a week. Municipal officials then managed to restore power to the town hall after about 40 minutes. To add insult to injury, the Municipal Manager, Mr. Burton Koma pitched one and a half

were playing with words, in stead of coming out with the truth. It also transpired that some 3.5 Mva of the originally planned 5 Mva of the (still not operational) Rooidraai substation, has been earmarked to a single developer, following payment for part of the ring network. According to business people who were part of the original deal, Rooidraai was financed by the mines to augment current shortages in town. Something sounds wrong. All in all, it was clear that residents are standing together, that they are tired of this mess and that the time for dodging responsibility is over. Residents are not prepared to “play nice” anymore and the warning was clear: The Municipality had better shape up or ship out! Late breaking news - Following a meeting on Tuesday, Xstrata has taken over the management of the towns main transformer and will repair any damage. With the exception of the MM, the acting CFO and the LED Manager, none of the senior managers from the municipality were available to answer questions from a very irrate group of residents. Apparently they regard themselves as above the call of duty. After the MM was told by residents that he and his staff in fact work for the town and its taxpayers, he was instructed to initiate disciplinary procedures against his nonperforming staff. Several requests to have most of senior management fired, were made. A long discussion followed on the problems experienced in terms of electricity supply, water supply, the non-functioning of the sewerage system and various other issues. This, after the Business Community was promised by Mr. Koma in April, that the town’s electricity problems were a thing of the past. The lack of qualifications and general incompetence of municipal staff was highlighted by the residents. Following this discussion, Mr. Leon De Jager, on behalf of the residents, posed numerous questions to the MM regarding the budget. Two issues highlighted were the facts that almost 40% of the budget goes to (non performing) staff and only a meager 3% goes towards maintenance of the infrastructure system such as electricity, water, sewerage, roads, etc. that are falling apart, due to a lack of maintenance over a long period of time. The general consensus of residents was that the budget is not acceptable, that Municipal performance is not acceptable, that answers and promises made by Senior Municipal Management were vague and in some cases untrue and therefore not acceptable. Dorpslegende oorlede Ouma Koekie word 97 OOM Gideon Johannes Cross, vader van die bekende Nico, Gawie, Robert en Gideon Cross, is op 2 Junie in die ouderdom van bykans 86 jaar oorlede. Oom Gideon het diep spore in die geskiedenis van Lydenburg getrap. Hy was werksaam by die destydse Afdeling Natuurbewaring van die TPA, by die Lydenburg Visserye. Hy was onder andere betrokke by die gratis besetting van plaaslike riviere soos die Dorpsrivier, Sterkspruit,
Wyle mnr. Gideon Cross.
Krokodil, Lunsklip en ander met forel, wat uiteindelik gelei het tot die multimiljoen vlieghengel bedryf. Oom Gideon het op die visserye damme gebou met ’n ou Fordson stootskraper en gereeld in die modder vasgeval met die masjien. Dan moet hulle tot twee weke wag vir die grond om uit te droog, voordat hulle die masjien kan uitkry. Hy het ook gehelp met die ontwikkeling van De Kuilen in die middel sewentigs en saam gewerk met mense soos Werner Franke se pa, Gunther, wat Hooftegnikus was en ook Andre Coetzee van die koerant se toesighouer was. Oom Gideon het met geelvisnavorsing gehelp en met elektriese skokapparate vis versamel oor die lengte van die Vaalrivier, en so ver as Barberspan in die destydse Wes Transvaal. In daardie jare het die visserye tot 50 000 besoekers per jaar gehad en moes oom Gideon bontstaan om alles reg te hou. Dit was die jare toe die akwarium op sy piek was en daar ook nog krokodille aangehou was. Oom Gideon het saam met bekende natuurwetenskaplikes soos Dr. Piet Mulder, Dr. Eugene Kruger, tegnici soos Gunther Franke en Joaghim Goldner en natuurbewaarders soos Jan Campher, Adam Smith, Frans Labuschagne en Andre Coetzee gewerk. Nico vertel dat hy op die visserye groot geword het en dat sy boude gereeld gebrand het na ’n pak slae van oom Gideon, as hy stout was by die damme. Gideon Cross was voorwaar ’n pionier in die beginjare van natuurbewaring op Lydenburg. Ons bid die familie sterkte toe na sy afsterwe en wens oom Gideon nou gelyk paaie en mooi visse toe! Marie Bothma (ook bekend as Ouma Koekie) tydens haar 97ste verjaardag op Sondag 10 Junie. En dis waar, want dink net wat 'n vol lewe het sy gehad. Sy het die depressie beleef, die oorlog, motorkarre se begin, vliegtuie, baie sterre verskeinsels, rekenaars, TV, die eerste man op die maan en selfone. Op 90 het sy met ’n mikroligte vliegtuig die dorp uit die lug gesien. Op vyf en negentig het sy die Roofvoël Sentrum op Dullstroom besoek. Maar nou is dit die eerste keer dat sy haar verjaarsdag in die bed deurbring. Want die siekte het haar hierdie keer plat. Vir haar
kinders is sy ’n voorbeeld. Vir die kleinkinders ’n ware ouma, en vir die agterkleinkinders net vet pret. Dankie aan die Hemelse Vader vir hierdie wonderlike ma. Aan die dokters wat haar gehelp het, baie dankie. Veral dr. Leon van Heerden, wat tydig en ontydig haar besoek. Sy hulp was onbeskryflik. Dankie ook aan al die vriende en familie se hulp en ondersteuning in hierdie tyd. Die besoeke van almal word opreg waardeer. En nou is ouma alweer reg vir die ding. Sy spook om op te staan, maar die koue dwing haar terug bed toe. Ons weet dis net tydelik, dan is sy weer op die been. ~ Neels Bothma.

Mahindra shows at Nampo MAHINDRA used this year’s Nampo Harvest Day Show to showcase its extended range of pick-ups, including special editions of the Scorpio, Genio and new SsangYong models, to the farming community. “Mahindra, which is the utility vehicle market leader in India, is finding favour with many members of the farming community in South Africa with its rugged range of pick-ups and SUVs,” explained the company’s CEO, Ashok Thakur. “We have also customised several of the models with added value equipment which we believe will appeal to farmers and all those who enjoy off-roading”. BMW 6 Gran Coupe BMW can lay claim to creating several niche vehicles. The super saloon subcategory, for instance, owes its existence to the M5, the first of which emerged in the mid Eighties. That super specialist body type, the Sports Activity Coupé, took root from the X6. The latest model, however, will not be credited with the creation of a new niche. In fact, the 6 Series Gran Coupé follows on from the trend set by Mercedes-Benz's CLS range. In fact, some may say that BMW is quite late in coming to the party as the CLS is already in its second generation while Audi, Porsche and even Aston Martin have beat the Munich-based marque to the punch. As its name denotes the Gran Coupé is a variant of the existing 6 Series range. The newcomer shares its floorpan with the Coupé and Convertible versions, but its wheelbase is 113 mm longer to allow for the addition of rear doors and increase the level of legroom afforded for rear passengers. Despite this extension to the overall length the 6 Gran Coupé looks well proportioned and does not simply appear like a stretched 6.

This has been thoroughly addressed with this car. Occupants of up to six-feet in height can easily get comfortable on the rear bench. There may be enough legroom but oddly there isn’t oodles of footroom. Those taller than six-feet may find their heads coming into contact with the roof lining. As with any proper GT car there needs to be enough space in the luggage compartment to swallow the bags of four and here the Gran Coupé doesn’t disappoint. The rear seats can even fold down creating the most stylish MPV around. Initially South African buyers can choose between one of two six-cylinder models, a 640i or 640d. As the names denote one is petrol-fed and the other is an oil-burner, and both feature turbocharging to increase torque outputs. At the international launch, first sampled was the diesel model. Short of looking down at the rev-counter with its 5 400 r/min red line drivers were hardpressed to tell that this car was powered by a diesel engine. A high-tech injection system helps to reduce that characteristic clatter as does the superb noise insulation. There is power aplenty (230 kW to be precise) matched with a mountainous 630 Nm of torque developed from 1 500 to 2 500 r/min. Performance is on par with the petrolfuelled derivative. BMW claims a zeroto-100 km/h sprint time of 5,4 seconds, a top speed of 250 km/h and a 1 km sprint time of under 25 seconds. Those figures are impressive for a car with a claimed combined cycle figure of 5,5 litres/100 km (on standard 17-inch alloys). One area in which the 6 GC seems to excel in particular is ride comfort. Will we ever see the new Toyota Camry in SA? THE Toyota Camry was once, in the early- to mid-nineties, one of South Africa's favourite cars. Subsequent iterations of this large, comfy family saloon were nowhere near as popular, however, partly because they didn't strike the same design/value balance as the first (in SA) model, but also because the market had started to swing towards entry-level German executive saloons and crossovers. Now, with these German vehicles becoming increasingly expensive (and offering little specification), and crossovers also moving up the pricing ladder and offering less for more, a gap seems to be opening for the traditional large family saloon once more. Rumours have been doing the rounds for months that Toyota SA has again been investigating the possibility of introducing such a model in the South African market. Late last year CAR magazine received photographs of a newgeneration Avensis in Johannesburg. It has subsequently come to light that Avensis had been evaluated for the South African market. The previous-generation of the Avensis was however never as popular in South Africa as its Camry predecessor, and this Europeantargeted model is likely to be too pricey, so the arrival of Avensis in SA is unlikely. Far more likely is the re-entry of the Camry. "We are currently studying the viability of reintroducing the Camry to South Africa," said a Toyota spokesperson. He was quick to point out, however, that no final decision had been made, not even on the source country. There are two possibilities, Australia and India. The sleek Australian model is powered by a 2,5-litre, fourcylinder engine, mated with a new six-speed automatic transmission. It is priced, in Australia, from the equivalent of R260 000 (excluding all import duties etc.) For the South African market Toyota would obviously like to target the likes of the Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata, both with starting prices around the R300 000 mark. Though the Australian-market model is the most likely candidate for local introduction, Toyota also has another option. The Camry goes into production in India in two months' time, and with the recent introduction of the Indian-sourced Etios, it could make financial sense to also consider the Indian model, though this may differ markedly from the Australian version, which in turn is likely to be more in tune with the tastes of the South African car buyer.

Onkunde aangaande die verskillende tipes mandate wat aan eiendomsagente gegee kan word, kan 'n verkoper maklik in 'n slaggat laat beland wat honderde duisende Rande uit die sak kan jaag. Dis uiters belangrik om enige dokumentasie baie deeglik deur te lees alvorens die reg om jou eiendom te bemark aan 'n agent gegee word. Dit is die agent se plig om die gevolge en verpligtings in terme van die mandaat goed te verduidelik. Daar is verskillende tipes mandate in die eiendomsbedryf- elk met sy eie implikasies. 'n Oop mandaat gee enige agentskap wat die toestemmimg by die verkoper gekry het, die reg om die eiendom te bemark en indien suksesvol, kommissie as vergoeding te ontvang. Die verkoper kan dan ook sy eiendom self verkoop. Baie verkopers dink dis die beste om 'n oop mandaat te gee, maar dis juis hier waar die meeste probleme ondervind word. Dikwels sien kopers dan die eiendom deur middel van meer as een agent en agterna is dit somtyds moeilik om te bepaal wie die effektiewe oorsaak van die verkoop daarvan is – dit kan lei na 'n dubbele kommissie wat deur die verkoper betaalbaar word. Wat verkopers moet besef is dat daar te enige tyd slegs 'n sekere hoeveelheid kopers in die mark is en dat hulle na alle agentskappe toe gaan; dus meer agente beteken, nie meer kopers nie! 'n Alleen mandaat (Sole Mandate) is waar die verkoper slegs 'n mandaat vir een agentskap met sy agente gee om sy eiendom te bemark. Dit word gewoonlik gedoen vir 'n spesifieke tydperk en moet altyd skriftelik wees en moet ook vergesel wees van 'n bemarkingsplan – die aksies wat die agent onderneem om uit te voer gedurende die alleen mandaat tydperk. Byvoorbeeld die hoeveelheid en aard van koerant advertensies, aantal en datums van skouhuise wat gehou sal word, webwerf advertensies en dies meer. Wanneer 'n alleen mandaat gegee word kan 'n eienaar verseker wees van 'n groter

Peter Molapo running in the colours of Mr. Price Sport finished in position 38 with a time of 06:04: 24. Surprise Makofane was the top finisher of the Modikwa Marathon Club and came in the best of the team; he was in the 335th position. The club had two novice runners, Cedrick Mbuyane with a time of 08:52:20 and Lawrence Rhapiri 11:30:06 with a knee and ankle injury both completed the race, which they found very challenging, but both said they will return next year. The master (above 50 years of age) Solomon Masedi won a bronze medal, and also bettering his time of last year. Another highlight was Mandla Nxumalo (Manyoni team) who betters his time with 45min to run a Sub 10 hour race. These athletes were all part of the 19 500 that started the race at
