veiligheidvergadering. A.O. Coetsee en mnr. Walkinshaw snr. se seun, Sers. Rudi Walkinshaw is lede van die polisie. Me. Tina Walkinshaw is ook aangerand. Die aanvallers het klaarblyklik nie 'n woord aan die egpaar gesê nie. Hulle het slegs die egpaar begin rondruk voordat mnr. Walkingshaw in die gesig geskiet is en sy vrou geskop is. Die enigste goedere wat gesteel is, is ’n klein bedrag geld en die egpaar se sleutels. ’n Sekuriteitswag van ’n nabye gebou het die skote gehoor en hulle toe te hulp gesnel. Mnr. Walkinshaw was op hierdie stadium steeds lewendig en is opgehelp om teen die passasierskant van die bakkie te sit. Hy is net daarna oorlede. Mnr. Walkinshaw het sy hele lewe lank in Belfast gebly. Hy het eers die Welkom Kafee besit en toe die bakkery Belfields Bakery gekoop, waar hy vermoor is. Hy het ook op Stofberg met aartappels en skape geboer en was ’n bekende sakeman. Die Belfast gemeenskap en buurdorpe (soos Dullstroom en Lydenburg) is erg geskok deur hierdie voorval. Mnr. Walkinshaw laat sy vrou Tina, sy kinders Charmaine en Rudi en vyf kleinkinders agter.

f you have a business plan that you believe will lead you to the road of riches and success, then enter the Dream Out Loud (DOL) Business Plan Competition, held by The Job Club in conjunction with SA Council for Business Women (SACBW). The competition will consist of three phases over a period of two years namely: The Business plan, Implementation of Business Plan and three year incubation period as follow-up. Youth from Grades 12 up to the age of 35 will be given the opportunity to participate in the Business Plan Competition under these categories. All you have to do is compile a business plan that fits into the following two categories. 1. Daring to Innovate This category is for new business ventures, where contestants would like to introduce an innovative product or service as business. 2. Most promising self employment This category is for individuals who want to start a business (self employment) as alternative to seek employment and is promising for future growth into business. Make sure you fill in a form of intention to enter by the end of April 2013. The official entry dates are from April until 30 August 2013. Judging will take place during September and the winners will be announced on 17 October 2013 during the SACBW annual gala event. The contestants will be shortlisted to five per category by an independent panel and the panel of judges will score the 10 shortlisted business plans as per the requirements. The business plan must be in English and

compiled as if you need R100 000 for venture capital or further development. Draw up a business plan so as to approach a bank for a loan. Elements of the plan must include: overview / profile of the business, with reference to how the idea started, service or product, knowledge required to succeed, personnel required, average monthly profit, how the business will be financed; SWOT analysis; market analysis; sales and marketing strategies and financial analysis. The first prize winner will get R5 000 and second place winner R2 500. Also all winners will be coached, mentored and assisted to implement their respective business plans. As werkwoord dan kul of fob en as byvoeglike naamwoord en bywoord beteken dit oneerlik. Ander woorde wat mens bloot roer in die siel en Afrikaans met nuwe oë laat aanskou is : Fieterjasies, tierlantyntjies, toktokkie, duwweltjie, einabeentjie, botterboontjie, lagplooitjies, bangbroek en kapittel. Uit oorlewering en geskiedenis van die taal is van die lekkerste Afrikaanse woorde inheemse dinge wat die boere in hulle ontdekkingstogte deur wilde Afrika sommer so op die plek benoem het. Sekerlik soos Adam die eerste diere en plante in die Tuin van Eden op 'n streep gedoop het: voortaan heet jy nartjie' en jy koejawel' en jy 'appelliefie'; jy klink vir my soos 'n 'piet-my-vrou', en ek noem jou sommer 'snoek' en jou 'meerkat' en jou bokmakierie; en hierdie lyk vir my soos 'haak-en-steekbos en hierdie proe soos 'n 'bitterbessiebos' ... Dis nou nie te sê Adam het Afrikaans gebruik in die tuin nie. As iemand nou weer jou vere deurmekaarkap sê: “Jy kierang my”. Dit sal 'n Babelse verwarring veroorsaak. En as jy soos ek dink verduidelik sommer wat is kierang as hulle jou dofoog aankyk.

Ons bedank u vir u kompliment dat die VF+ Leierskorps besluit het om Duncia Kinderhuis onder ons vlerk te neem. Dankie ook aan soveel ander sakemanne, besighede en boere wat my gekontak het en die VF+ komplimenteer het oor hierdie positiewe besluit en reeds skenkings gedoen het. U lewer ook kritiek op Michelle Boshoff, redakteur van Highlands Panorama Nuus en die VF+ omdat ons Nelson Mandela en sy familie beterskap toewens met sy onlangse siekte. Dit beteken nie dat ons hom verafgod nie. U kan nie ons geloof in twyfel trek bloot oor die lees van ’n brief en ’n rubriek nie. Die oordeel kom ons gelukkig nie toe nie want ons as mense sal groot foute maak. Iemand anders sal eendag oordeel. Dankie aan Michelle Boshoff vir die mooi foto van Lydenburg wat jy geneem het. Soos mnr. Nelson weet, gaan dit tans nie goed met die stadsraad van Lydenburg nie. Baie inwoners het aan my genoem dat hulle dit sterk oorweeg om Lydenburg te verlaat. Die VF+ se bestuur voer tans op hoë vlak samesprekings om die situasie te beredder. Ons moet ons egter nie blind staar teen die vullis wat die strate besoedel nie en die riool wat die strate oorspoel nie. Ons is een van die dorpe in Mpumalanga met die vinnigste ekonomiese groei. really going to fix Lydenburg? Anonymous writes: I went to school in Lydenburg, still visited family and remember many carefree days spent with friends and family. But things have changed and the town has moved on. Landmarks I grew up with have disappeared to make way for development, houses have been demolished but the memories still linger. It is exciting to see the changes happening and all the growth taking place. I often pass through the town, but with so many others are appalled by the crumbling municipal infrastructure. I believe, however that there has now been enough complaining and not enough action. Political parties, community organisations and residents all complain which will really bring you nowhere. With a little bit of effort Lydenburg can look a lot better, which might just encourage everyone to do something to restore some of my memories. Where I live the municipality has basically given over the maintenance of the parks and sidewalks to local motor dealers and other businesses. One of the main problems in Lydenburg is the tall grass everywhere that is never cut. It makes the town look unkept and dilapidated. What about local businesses, such as motor dealers, get a few brush cutters and divide the town up and cut the grass – especially the parks and sidewalks in Voortrekker, De Clerq and Viljoen streets. They can put advertising boards up while they are busy in exchange for their services. I know it is being done to an extent but it must be escalated to include the whole town. The tall grass is even growing sky high in the centre of town in front of the casino. Perhaps the Chamber can get the guys from Lelievlei to cut the town's grass once or twice a month – just focus on the main routes to start with. You will be surprised what a difference that can make. It can even be a job creation project. Maybe the brush cutters can even be donated by companies like Buco or Conway. I have read recently of a Municipal councillor in Mokopane who is cleaning the town's entrances and gardens himself. Maybe there are churches or schools who would like to help. Even the town entrance at The Heads can do with a bit of beautification. The sidewalks and especially street corners look terrible as well. Why not have an adopt a street corner campaign. I think for example the corner opposite Longtom Nissan, the Spaar-o-Rama corner and the corner where the provincial traffic building is situated. A bit of paving and cement can do wonders. Hopefully TCM will turn a corner soon, but until then please do something Lydenburg. Sabie, also TCM, looks neater than Lydenburg because the residents there are proactively doing something to make their town look beautiful. Come on make me proud again!

Die swart deel van die bevolking beskou (en ek veralgemeen) blankes as arrogant, onwelriekend, meerderwaardig en uiters rassisties. Die blankes (en ek veralgemeen weer) beskou swart mense as lui, sonder innovering en skelm. As dit wat ek hier sê oor geselskap eina is, is dit omdat dit dalk waar is. Dit is waarom ons almal (wit of swart) se gesindheid oorwegend negatief is. Hierdie negatiewe gesindheid vind

ongelukkig neerslag in ons gemeenskappe, in ons huise, skole en in ons kerke. Rassisme en oorlogsugtigheid is in ons (mans) se gene. Almal s’n. Vrouens los die stresprobleme op deur te gaan “shopping” doen. As hulle alles sou regeer sal ons lief wees vir almal en net dans en kuier. Utopia. Probleem is hulle sal konstant in ’n sielkundige oorlog met mekaar gewikkel wees, soos hulle skinder! Die oplossing is eenvoudig. Kom ons aanvaar ons is almal rassiste (wit en swart). Kom ons aanvaar ons is bakleierig. Kom ons aanvaar ons is lui. Kom ons stuur ons geselskap in ’n ander rigting en praat en doen met positiewe denke. Kom ons bou ’n brug oor ons verskille en doen met mekaar besigheid! Kom ons ontwikkel weer ’n slag. Ons gesindhede sal vanself volg.

Business Chamber relevant THE Lydenburg / Mashishing Business Chamber for 2013 is alive and well and relevant. The new Executive Committee has been elected during March at a Gala event held at Laske Nakke resort. The new Committee consists of Wessel Venter (chair), Mohammed Cassim (vice chair), Andre Coetzee (secretary), Dries Strydom (treasurer), Francois Vermeulen (member), Andre Hanekom (member), Izak Lange (member), David Mdluli (member), Nomcebo Sibanyoni (member), and Leon De Jager (member). Engela Krugel will as usual take care of administration. Sub Committees were elected as follows: Private Hospital Francois Vermeulen, David Mdluli and Andre Coetzee, Roads Infrastructure and Relationship with Local Government Mohammed Cassim, Izak Lange and Leon De Jager, Involvement of Mashishing Business Owners Nomcebo Sibanyoni and David Mdluli. Marketing Gerda Whitehorn and Andre Coetzee. The first Chamber meeting for members took place on Monday 15 April during which the Tebelo Village concept was presented by Rev. Charity drive a success Continued from page 2... About 42 learners of Marifane School also received school uniforms. This is a crucial item as many learners in this school are needy. After the delegation left Marifane they also visited Estralita School. The school received school uniforms. The last stop was Lelievlei Project outside Lydenburg where food was delivered. Hon. David Dube and the Speaker of TCM however said that Lelievlei will receive more food items within the next few weeks. “I have known Hon. Dube since 1994 and we worked together as councillors for years. Vitamin C also controls Iron, an essential mineral especially for women and older people. Factors that affect Vitamin C absorption: With all these important functions, you should know that there are factors that can affect how much of this important vitamin your body really gets. Let's find out how you can optimize your Vitamin C absorption. Water-Soluble. First of all, Vitamin C is water-soluble and can not be stored in the body. This is why it is so important to make sure that you get enough of these vitamins through your diet every day. Caffeine. Drinks and food containing caffeine such as coffee, tea, cola drinks and chocolate can inhibit the absorption of vitamin C. Vitamin C is water-soluble and can be removed through your urine. Since too much caffeine consumption may cause a frequent urination it can cause your body to become depleted of Vitamin C. Medication. Dade Roode and Sharwyn Sutherland, two U/12 students from Entheos Christian School, were selected for the U/13 SACSSA National Cricket Trials, representing Mpumalanga, in the 2013 SACSSA (South African Christian Schools Sport Association) Cricket Week. This was hosted by the Albert Morkel Cricket Academy at the North West University Campus in Vanderbijlpark from 31 March 2013 to 6 April 2013. The players had an intense week of Cricket and character building. They were able to put into practice what they had learnt from the coaches and players, with the display of cricket skills and conduct in playing of matches. Both boys would like to extend their appreciation to SACCSA and Stephan, Retief (their coach), the staff of the hostel at Vereeniging HoĂŤrskool, and the players from Pukke University who spent the week training and assisting the players.

A seed was planted and watered during the National Water Week

These were leaners from Grade 10, 11 and 12 who are currently doing Mathematics and Science subjects in the local schools. Delivering a highly motivational speech and representing the Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, the Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr. Fanie Lekola, challenged the learners to take advantage of the existing opportunities in the sciences discipline by focusing on their studies so that they can in future assist in helping government and their communities in dealing with the current climate change. â&#x20AC;&#x153;At Two Rivers Platinum, we ensure that all our SLP related projects are well researched and thus link with each other for the greater benefit

Wildlife news By Tara Pirie, Head researcher, Ingwe Leopard Research, Thaba Tholo Wilderness Reserve: March news: There are several leopards known to the project, some of which are residents and some are just passing through. Leopards generally hold territories. These are areas which are defended from other leopards, as they live a solitary lifestyle, however a males territory will often overlap one or more females territories. They also occupy home ranges. These are different to territories as they are not actively defended and are often shared with other leopards, and there can be several territories within a home range, so they can be quite large. One of the leopards on the reserve provided us with some very exciting news. Diamond girl is a female leopard who has been on the reserve for at least two years. Last year she raised two cubs, one male and one female who have now left the immediate area. There were suspicions she may be pregnant again, and these suspicions were confirmed this month when she was caught on a camera trap with two small cubs. The sire of the cubs generally have nothing to do with raising them as is typical of leopards, and could be one of three males from the area, or may have been a nomadic male who just happened to be passing through. There are three males thought to be in the area at present These have been named Lucky, Black Tip and Big D. Big D is a relatively new male to the project, having been caught on

camera for the first time in March last year. He is a large male who has been seen in various places all-over the reserve and is the most likely to be the father of the new cubs. Black Tip is also a large male, who was given his name due to the black tip at the end of his tail. Normally, the tip of a leopard's tail is white so cubs can see it to follow it in the bush. Lucky is a young male who was collared in 2010, as a way to track his movements. He has not been seen on the reserve for a while which may be due to Big D's presence, and he may have been pushed out of his territory. Diamond Girls cubs from last year that have left the reserve now, are called Emily and DG Son. Leaving the area is typical behaviour for young leopards. It is likely they have gone to find a territory of their own, though they may remain nomadic for some time. We would especially like to know what happened to Diamond Girls cubs from last year. Emily, the female, is very distinctive as she has only one eye and seems to function fine even with such an issue. April news: The impala on the reserve have dropped a few lambs, a bit late as the majority were born in December, but they have also started rutting now too. The kudu also have calves that are turning up all over the place, and we have even seen some young waterbuck calves, with a very young one being caught on a camera trap. On our camera traps, we expect lots of different animals, and sometimes we get something unusual. Brown hyena are occasionally seen, as are an

jackal, Meller's mongoose and even the occasional owl! In the last month, when looking through camera trap photos, we came across an unusual photo. It looked almost like a large rabbit with a long tail and snout, and longer legs. This odd looking animal can only be an aardvark. This is exciting as we always suspected they were here but had no real proof, no spoor or photos. Now that has changed, so we can officially say aardvark have been seen on Thaba Tholo. Aardvarks are generally secretive creatures and are rarely seen. They are nocturnal and only occasionally seen in the day, and feed on ants and termites. They leave some ants and termites at each place they feed, which allows the insects to repopulate, so when the aardvark comes again, numbers are back up, and it will know where to find food. We also have had some camera trap photos of cape fox. These are not supposed to be found in this area, but now we hopefully will be able to change the distribution, as they have been seen here several times in the last year, so it is likely they are staying round. The cape fox is the only true fox in southern Africa, it is quite small, smaller than a Labrador but bigger than a Jack Russell. They eat a range of small insect and rodents, but will occasionally take small birds and reptiles. Like the aardvark, the cape fox is nocturnal, and can be identified on camera traps by looking for large, pointed ears, and a very bushy tail. The mellers mongoose also has a bushy tail, but the ears are the best thing to look for, the fox has large, pointed ears, while the mongoose has much smaller ears that are also slightly pointed. We have some evidence there may be a new species of golden mole on the reserve. These little things are well adapted for life underground. With powerful front legs and claws for digging, they are completely blind, and have a leathery nose for pushing through the soil. They do not have ears outside their head like most mammals. A leopard and her cub captured on camera. be to prevent sand and soil falling into the ears and causing problems. Their eye which they do not use, are generally covered in a layer of skin. Recent evidence also shows that these are not related, or at least not closely, to the moles they get their name from. They have been classed as being closer related to elephants and hyrax than they are to 'normal' moles. Hopefully, as time goes on, we will keep finding these new species, and continue finding the species we already know are here. Audi R8 revised THE revised second edition of Audi's sports flagship R8 has finally landed in South Africa, including the new top-of-the-range 404kW R8 V10 plus, and a new seven-speed S-tronic transmission on all five variants. Styling updates are minimal, starting with new LED headlights standard on all variants - and high-gloss black paint on the single-frame grille, with horizontal chrome inserts on V10 models. Fiat Doblo Panorama launched FIAT has tackled South African family vehicle needs with the launch of the Doblo Panorama. The Doblo Panorama rides on a new seven-seat platform that comes with a 790-litre boot that expands to 3 200 litres with the seats folded. CO2 emissions are 145g/km). The car is 4.39m long, 1.83m wide and 1.84m tall (1.89m with roof bars) and rides on a 2.76m wheelbase. Golf Cabrio GTI here IT does seem a little strange that VW is launching a version of the Golf 6 months after the Golf 7 hit our shores, but with no open-top version of the latter, the world has to make do with the older Cabrio for now. And that Cabrio is now available to South Africans in GTI format. As long-time fans of open-top driving, we at IOL Motoring can only say, “Nice one, chaps, even if it is a little late.” Where the rest of the world gets to choose between hand-stirred and DSG six-coggers, only the DSG version will be available in South Africa - but the rest of the good stuff is all on parade, including the electric soft-top, dual-zone air conditioning, transverse electronic differential lock and a roll-over protection system. LUXURY TRIM Whereas in Europe tartan fabric is standard and leather an option, South African GTI Cabriolet customers get to park their bums on Vienna leather sport seats with integrated lumbar support, adjusted by a button on the side of the seat. The steering wheel, gear-shift cover and leather trim of the parking brake lever have decorative red seams, while the interior lining of the soft top is black, as are the trim covers of the roof pillars. House prices & price inflation THE Absa House Price Index reveals that nominal price growth for the full year is forecast to be in single digits, with real price trends to be driven by a combination of nominal price movements and consumer price inflation.
