Daar het Vrydag 11 Oktober ’n Kranslegging plaasgevind by die Burgermonument in Lydenburg, deels om eer te bring aan al die soldate wat vir volk en vaderland gesterf het. Daar is ook kranse gelê vir die vroue, mans en kinders wat in die konsentrasiekampe tydens die Tweede Vryheidsoorlog gesterf het, stigters van die dorp en helde van die dorp wat in oorloë gesterf het. Dit is ’n dag waar mens vir ’n wyle kan terugsit en besef hoeveel mense het gesterf en hul lewe gegee om vir Suid-Afrika te veg.

Security at Lodges and hotels should be strengthened MAAK vere die voël, of anders om? Die vere kan die voël maak as die voël by die modereëls hou. Of moet die voël hom of haar eerder aan die samelewing se voorskrifte verbind. Dit help om reëls te ken. Maar reëls is ook partykeer daar om gebreek te word en hoef nie altyd rigied nagekom te word nie. Variasie op die voorgeskrewe temas kan verwelkom word. In Illinois is dit byvoorbeeld onwettig om gesig vir 'n hond te trek. Die mees interessante wet is in Iowa waar perde verbied word om brandkrane te eet. Het julle al sulke verspotte goed gehoor? Tog bestaan die wette. Ek sal definitief nie my blinkvosperd by 'n brandkraan in Iowa staanmaak nie, die borgtog gaan te duur wees. En in Maryland is dit teen die wet om 'n leeu na die bioskoop toe te vat. In Minnesota mag mens nie die staatsgrens oorsteek met 'n eend op sy kop nie. Die Amerikaners wil ook net altyd anders wees. STRENGHTHENING and enhancement of security measures at hotels, lodges and other tourist destinations should always be a priority for owners and managers as failure to do so could have far reaching consequences for tourism in the province, this is according to Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe. Shongwe was speaking after a group of about 100 learners and their three teachers from Gauteng Province's Laerskool Hennopspark in Pretoria were robbed of their belongings at gun point while at Aan De Vliet Resort and Guest House in Hazyview on 4 October 2013. The learners were reportedly on a Christian Outreach.

Dan sal hulle per geregistreerde pos waarvoor ons moet teken, vir ons ’n rekening moet stuur. Ons sal weier om die posstuk te ontvang. Dit gaan hulle
tien keer meer kos om die tolgeld by ons te verhaal as wat dit vir hulle werd is. En derduidende mense is vasbeslote hieroor. Tussen OUTA (Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance), Cosatu en duisende ander, is die sisteem gedoem. Normaalweg is ek ’n baie wetsgehoorsame landsburger. Maar wanneer die regering dinge teen die wil van die mense begin doen, is daar groot fout met ons sogenaamde demokrasie. En die geld gaan landuit. Nee wat, hierdie e-toll ding is net hier waar die spul in die regering hulle moses gaan teëkom. Tot hiertoe en nie verder nie. Bogger hulle. Ek protesteer. Ek is nou deel van die publieke verset!

Op Saterdag 12 Oktober het die dames van die Strelitziatak op 'n uitstappie gegaan na die Rootworks Kwekery op pad na Ohrigstad om meer te leer oor rissies (chillies) en hoe om hulle te plant. Die eienaar Sheryl Jacobs het hulle meer vertel oor die verskillende rissie plante en hoe om hulle te groei en te onderhou. Die dames het elkeen 'n bottel met rissies ingelê in versoete asyn en daarna heerlik piekniek gehou. Die dames het ook geproe aan rissies met maaskaas binne en met spek omring wat liggies gebraai is. Na 'n piekniek het die tak die kwekery besoek en kruie gekoop. Die publiek is welkom om daar te stop op pad Ohrigstad toe en sommer van die vele plante en kruie te koop. Kalendervergadering vir dorp DIE dorp se jaarlikse kalendervergadering word op Donderdag 31 Oktober om 09H00 by die NG Suid-saal gehou. Alle groepe, kerke, skole en instansies wat belang het by hierdie belangrike vergadering, moet asseblief opdaag met hulle jaarbeplannings vir 2014. Die doel van hierdie vergadering, wat gefasiliteer word deur die Lydenburg / Mashishing Sakekamer, is om botsende datums te voorkom. Restaurante wat kunstenaars reël vir optredes, is ook welkom. BEARDED adventurer Kingsley Holgate is at it again, his sights set on East Africa with an epic tribute adventure that will follow in the footsteps of 18th century explorer Joseph Thomson. Intrepid explorer Kingsley Holgate is to set out on yet another journey through Africa, this time an attempt to follow the footsteps of geologist and explorer Joseph Thomson. In 1882 Thompson became the first European to enter several regions of eastern Africa and greatly contributed to the geographical knowledge of the area through his records and surveys. The Thomson’s gazelle, the most common gazelle in east Africa, was named after this intrepid explorer. Holgate and his team will not only attempt to follow the route of one of the most daring Royal Geographical Society expeditions but will provide humanitarian aid along the way by distributing mosquito nets to pregnant women. Holgate said: "What a privilege to be able to tell this story. There is no doubt that Joseph Thomson was one of the greatest explorers to follow Livingstone’s call to Africa. Using original journals, maps, sketches and photographs, we will follow in his footsteps. The Royal Geographical Society expedition was the first to cross Maasailand in the area that is now Kenya.” The journey will also be an emotional experience as the explorer will spread the ashes of his deceased wife Gill from her favourite place "on top of the Ololoolo escarpment overlooking the vast wildlife plains of the Maasai Mara". Ford noem hom ’n “stads SUV” wat ’n raak beskrywing is, aangesien min mense ooit met hulle SUV’s in die bosse of duine ingaan. Ses modelle is in agt kleure met drie alooiwiel opsies beskikbaar. Daar is die 1.5 TiVCT Ambiente, 1.0 Ecoboost Trend (ons toetsvoertuig), 1.5 DV5 Diesel Trend, 1.5 DV5 Diesel Titanium, 1.5TiVCT Titanium en 1.0 Ecoboost Titanium. Die 1.0 Ecoboost maak die meeste krag teen 92kW en die meeste wringkrag teen 170Nm. Die turbo driesilindertjie loop goed. Vanaf Laske Nakke in vyde die bult uit teen net onder die 140 km/u. Hierdie enjin sal baie ekonomies wees aangesien dit teen net 3 000 opm draai teen 120 km/u en net oor die 4 000 teen 150 km/u. T e e n l a e omwentelinge gebeur daar nie veel nie, maar vanaf 4 500 loop die Fordjie dat dit klap. Verbysteek werk goed in derde. Ons het reeds vroeër berig oor die Ecoboost enjin, wat aangewys is as die beste klein enjin ter wêreld. Binne is daar alles. Lugversorging (outo op Titanium) elektriese ruite, lugsakke rondom, ABS en al die ander afkortings, Radio / CD met bloutand en stuurwiel kontroles. Daar is ’n ritrekenaar met die gewone funksies en togbeheer op Titanium modelle. Die klankstelsel en foon is alles stembeheer soos op Fiesta. Daar is iPod en USB in vir jou musiek. Soos baie nuwe motors is daar nie ’n An Authorized Financial aansteker en
asbakkie nie, so ons rokers moet maar bek hou. Daar is ’n 12V kragpunt. Die Ford ecoboost ry lekker. Dit is stil en stabiel. Remme is goed en al die kontroles is lig en die motor se padgedrag is uitstekend, selfs teen hoë snelheid. Die motor lyk en ry net so lekker as ’n Fiesta. Die enigste groot verskil is dat dit hoog van die grond af staan en beter doen met hobbels, slaggate en sypaadjies. In- en uitklim is baie makliker as op Fiesta. Die beenruimte agter is bietjie knap vir groot ouens en die bak is nie baie groot nie, maar goed vir ’n paartjie se bagasie. Ek het nie die voertuig vir my vrou gaan wys nie, want ek dink sy sal een wil hê en my in die skuld dompel. Ek dink dit is die idiale voertuig vir ’n dinamiese en “trendy” dame of ’n juppie jong man. GENERAL Motors South Africa is unwrapping the new Chevrolet Sonic RS at the Johannesburg International Motor Show this week. Forming part of an exclusive special vehicle twosome for the Show, the Sonic RS is the new jewel in the Sonic range. Due for South African release in the first quarter of 2014, the Sonic RS adds performance to the Sonic range. The five-door hatchback features a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet with 103 kW of power. Coupled to an uprated suspension, the Sonic RS also features improved handling to match the boosted performance. A number of special detail changes inside and out separate the Sonic RS from its siblings, highlights of which include a sportier exterior look, dark-painted alloy wheels, red interior detailing and the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, which makes its South African debut in the Sonic RS. Comments Chevrolet Brand Manager, Tim Hendon: “The RS badge forms the first level of performance-oriented nomenclature within the model naming hierarchy at Chevrolet, making the Sonic RS a very special car indeed. THESE are the first official pictures of the 2014 Honda CRF450 Rally - which, as its name suggests, has been developed specifically for the Dakar and other extreme offroad events. Honda's motorsport division, HRC, returned to the Dakar Rally in January 2013 for the first time in 24 years with a bike based on its commercial CRF450X enduro machine. The 'works' entry posted mixed results; vastly experienced lead rider Helder Rodriques who finished fourth - was the only HRC rider to crack the top 30, but the team learned valuable lessons about engine output (there's no such thing as enough), aerodynamic performance (Dakar bikes are limited to 160km/h but even at that speed a bike that's oversensitive to gusty sidewinds can be lethal on loose surfaces), durability (the 450cc four-stroke engines have to be able to run flat out under horrendous conditions for at least 12 hours without breaking anything) and maintenance requirements engines - the top teams have dedicated "night shift" technicians who completely rebuild the bikes at every bivouac. All of which has been applied to the revised and 'enhanced' 2014 CRF450 Rally. It retains the previous version's PGM-FI electronic fuel-injection system, which proved unexpectedly durable in the severe and highly variable conditions of the world's toughest motorsport challenge, but has been upgraded in almost every other respect. The new Rally will be ridden in anger for the first time in the Morocco Rally, in October, using the same combination of five riders and five machines as for the 2014 Dakar Rally - Helder Rodrigues (Portugal, 34), Sam Sunderland (Britain, 24), Javier Pizzolito (Argentina, 33), Joan Barreda (Spain, 29), and Paulo Goncalves (Portugal, 34). But that's just a warm-up for the main event: the Dakar, which begins on 5 January 2014 in Rosario, Argentina. It will include some particularly gruelling stages in Bolivia and finish on 18 January in Valparaiso, Chile, about 8000km later. LAND Rover has confirmed that the last Defender will roll off the production line at the end of 2015. This will end a run of 67 years and no doubt will be a sad day for Land Rover enthusiasts. The main reasons for stopping production are safety and emission regulations. The shape that has become an icon all over the world has hardly changed over all these years and many of the components of the latest Defender are interchangeable with those of much older models. ABOUT 40 people a day are killed on South African roads, R306 billion is lost to the economy and R15 billion is paid out to road accident victims each year. These unacceptable statistics have resulted in drastic changes being proposed to the National Road Traffic Act. Included are a two-year probation period for first-time applicants of driving licences, the reduction of the legal alcohol content limit to 0.05 percent for drivers of normal vehicles and 0.02 percent for professional drivers, revised conditions of employment for traffic officers, consistent traffic law enforcement across the country, a common approach for the recruitment of traffic officers and spending R8.7 billion on remedial work to five trouble spots in each province. This according to transport minister Dipuo Peters, speaking at a National Road Safety Summit held last week for Transport Month under the theme 'Together Championing Road Safety 365 Days'. “The effects of these crashes are devastating.” Peters conceded that the high road fatality was 'countering' the milestones achieved in developing the country's transport system. The major accidents witnessed this year alone were a stark reminder of the need to form partnerships to tackle road carnage, she said. Families are robbed of their breadwinners, and surviving victims are faced with a lifetime of struggling to fend for themselves due to severe injuries and disability,” she said. Dipuo also admitted that law enforcement and corruption were big challenges. “Corruption affects a number of critical functions in the transport sector that contribute to a high number of fatalities. It is prevalent in vehicle licensing testing centres, while driving school operators openly flout the law. Bribery and corruption are not only criminal acts, they have potentially deadly consequences,” she said. To counteract this, she added, the conditions of employment of traffic law enforcement officers needed to be reviewed, as well as the status of roadsafety practitioners. “We also need to standardise norms and procedures across the country, and build the capacity of both traffic law enforcement officers and road safety practitioners,” she said. South Africa is party to the UN General Assembly resolution that declared the period 2011 to 2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety. Peters said: “The goal is to stabilise and reduce the forecast level of road traffic fatalities around the world by 2020, but the rate at which road fatalities happen in this country makes it difficult to reach those targets.” More traffic and road safety officers should be recruited. Road safety education and awareness programmes should be compulsory. The provision of pedestrian and non-motorised transport should be assessed with plans to include a 1.5m road reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. Policy and legislation should be developed and technology introduced to combat driver fatigue and distraction. Minimum standards should be set by the SABS or the national regulator for all public-transport vehicles. These must include legislation to compel owners to declare the use of the vehicles when taken for roadworthy tests. Systems should be put in place to expedite the phased implementation of periodic vehicle testing. Vehicle testing should be reviewed, including compliance monitoring and measures to combat fraud. Legislation to ensure children's safety in vehicles should be revised or introduced. Speed limits in areas with high pedestrian activity should be reduced to 40km/h. Driving schools should teach students in their own languages. Traffic law enforcement should be declared an essential service with compulsory 24-hour operation. TAX info Statistics have consistently shown that about 50% of our young people under the age of 25 are unemployed, and that unemployed youths account for about 30% of total unemployment. To reduce the high rate of unemployment amongst young people, a Wage Subsidy was proposed in the 2010 Budget. Only private sector employers that are registered for PAYE can benefit from the tax incentive. Restricting the incentive to the private sector is logical if one considers that it contributes about 82 per cent of GDP and employs over 70 per cent of those in formal employment outside of agriculture. Note that a company that only employs individuals who earn below the income threshold is not required to register for PAYE, because there is no PAYE to be withheld. These employers will unfortunately be excluded. Only young people between the ages of 19 and 29 who have a South African ID and who earn remuneration (as defined by the Fourth Schedule to the Income Tax Act) that is between the minimum wage for that specific sector (or R2 000 remuneration per month if there is no minimum wage) and a maximum of R6 000 remuneration per month, will 'qualify' for the incentive. Further, only those individuals who have been employed on or after 1 October 2013 will qualify for the incentive. The starting date of January 2014 seems to be optimistic, and amongst other comments, the Payroll Authors Group of South Africa has requested that the date be postponed to 1 March 2014. Employers will not be allowed to deduct any incentive amount from employees' tax after 1 January 2017. This means that any tax incentive amount that has not been claimed as at 31 December 2016 will be forfeited.

IAN Grobler (11) van die Bosbok Jagtersvereningingtak het Saterdag 5 Oktober deelgeneem aan Bosveld Jagters se groeperingskietkompetisie in Tzaneen. Daar was so ongeveer 800 skuts wat in die teleskoopgeweeropeklas deelgeneem het en hy het 'n vierde plek behaal. Hy het 'n groepering van 6.32mm vir drie skote geskiet oor 100 meter. Dit is 'n besonderse prestasie vir 'n seun van sy ouderdom om teen al die groot mans deel te neem. Ian het met 'n 22-250 Savage geweer geskiet en ons as die Bosbok Jagtersvereniging is baie trots op hom. Hy het ook deelgeneem in die .22 groeperingskiet en 6de plek behaal in sy ouderdomsklas.
