IE gebeure wat in die vroeë oggendure van Dinsdag 28 Januarie plaasgevind het, het weereens die gevaar van misdaad in hierdie omgewing aan die kaak gestel. Dit is die tweede keer in ’n week wat aanvalle op mense gedoen is in hul huise. ’n Bejaarde egpaar (in die sestigs) bly in ’n woonstelkompleks op die Sterkspruitplotte, Lydenburg. Die vermoede bestaan dat twee verdagtes omstreeks 1 uur die nag toegang tot die kompleks gekry het. Dit met ’n afstandbeheer van die motorhek. Hulle het deur die woonstel se syvenster toegang verkry.
Klaarblyklik het hulle nog televisie gekyk. Die egpaar se hande en voete is vasgebind en hulle is gemuilband. Dit sal eers na die nadoodse-ondersoek bevestig kan word hoe die vrou dood is, maar daar word sterk vermoed dat sy versmoor het weens die muilband in haar mond. Die veiligheidskompleks het palisades voor en veiligheidshekke. Maar die SAP het gemaan dat mense veral moet oplet om hul vensters en alle deure toe te hou in die nag. Dis ook glad nie veilig om sleutels en afstandbeheerders aan werkers te gee
nie. Die polisie was binne ’n paar minute op die toneel. Ander inwoners en die komplekseienaar het getuig dat die polisie ’n groot teenwoordigheid gevestig het, en onmiddellik met vingerafdrukke begin het. Die buurtwag het ook onmiddellik gereageer op die noodoproep. ’n Vuurwapen, plasma TV, twee selfone en ’n hoëtroustel is gesteel. Dr Pieter Mulder VF+ - leier, skryf Volgens Cyril Ramaphosa in Atteridgeville (Beeld, 21 Januarie) wil God hê dat elke Suid Afrikaner vir die ANC stem. Geen politieke party kan God vir hulle opeis nie. Daarom moet hierdie soort propaganda vroegtydig tydens hierdie verkiesing ten sterkste veroordeel word. Behalwe dat so 'n opmerking aanstoot aan gelowiges gee, grens die ydele gebruik van godsdiens op die wyse ook aan godslastering. As die ANC op die soort argumente moet terugval om sy kiesers te oortuig, is dit 'n duidelike aanduiding van hoe diep die ANC in die moeilikheid by hul ongeduldige ondersteuners is. As gelowiges weet ons dat God nie kant kies vir of teen spesifieke politieke partye nie, Ons weet egter wel dat God kant kies teen korrupsie, teen selfverryking en teen geweld. Gelowiges, wie se verkiesingskeuse in dié tye belangrik is, sal hul keuse bepaal deur die party vir wie hulle wil stem se standpunte aan Bybelse uitgangspunte te toets. Dit is egter iets heeltemal anders as om God vir jou party alleen op te eis, soos die ANC gereeld maak.

President Zuma and the ANC are getting desperate. The President resorted to threatening and intimidating voters whilst campaigning in Mpumalanga. President Zuma reportedly said: “We want every vote. We'll continue to run this government forever and ever. Like it or not.” Then later, President Zuma also added that: “If you give us 90% of the vote we'll return to slaughter cattle. If you don't, we won't." These thinly veiled threats are symptoms of a party and a president that is feeling the heat. They are anti-democratic statements and are unbecoming of a president of the Republic. Recent by-elections in Mpumalanga have shown that the ANC is rapidly losing its majority. In the last 5 by-elections in Mpumalanga, the DA has grown by 11%, 11%, 10%, 6% and 24%. That's an average of 12% growth in each of the by-elections held in the last year. This growth has come almost exclusively by taking votes away from the ANC. The fact is that the ANC is losing ground to the DA in Mpumalanga and across the country. That is why the President and the ANC are resorting to scaring and intimidating voters. It is their last resort. It won't work, because South Africans are looking to vote for a party that can take our country forward.

Huge amount of dagga found in Lydenburg THE Police in Lydenburg found a large quantity of dagga (cannabis) on Thursday morning in the industrial area. They reacted to a tip-off from the public and went to the site. Dagga is not legal in SA, even though some countries have legalized it recently. It is a very addictive drug. Any person found guilty of any drug or alcohol related offences will have a criminal record in South Africa and everywhere else in the world. This will impede a number of areas of your life, in the future. This may range from limiting future travel options, to employment options, to name but a few. The legal consequence of being arrested and sentenced in a drug related offence will haunt you for the rest of your life. Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act No. 140 of 1992 are the primary legal guidelines when it comes to dealing with the use, misuse, abuse and trading in what are considered harmful drugs in South Africa. It is unlawful to have a controlled (See: Schedule of Drugs elsewhere) drug in your possession unless you have authorization in the form of a license or if you did not know the Drug was a controlled drug. Three elements constitute the offence of possession: The Drug is in the possession or under the control of the individual. The Drug must be in an individual's physical custody or under their control. This can include being at the property of someone who is not
present but has control over that property. The individual knows the drug "exists". The individual must know of the existence of the Drug and they must know that the Drug is a controlled drug. The Drug must in fact be a controlled drug. Therefore, if the individual thought they were in possession of cannabis but they were in fact in possession of tea leaves, no offence has been committed. (If the defendant can prove that, as soon as was practicable, they intended to destroy the Drug or give it to someone who had legal authority to possess it, it may be considered as a defence against a possession charge). Depending on the circumstances of a case, an allegation of joint possession may be made. For example, a group of people are apprehended when travelling in a car with a stash of drugs. If it can be proven that they were all in control of the drugs, they might all be guilty of joint possession of the same batch. The severity of the penalty applied in relation to drugs offences will depend on the individual circumstances of the case. Please note these are the maximum sentences only and in most cases will not be reflective of the sentence given. Class A – 7 years' imprisonment or a fine or both. Mnr. Frik Rousseau, Hoofnatuurbewaarder van die MTPA Lydenburg (Visserye) het Dinsdag bevestig dat boosdoeners die gronde van die Visserye onwettig betree het. Hulle het Dinsdagoggend na 00:00 (twaalf) die petrolpomp op die Visserye gevandaliseer en ook die pyp afgesny. Dit was in ’n poging om petrol te steel. Die boosdoeners kon dit egter nie regkry nie, en het gevlug. Die maatskappy wat vir die Visserye se veiligheid verantwoordelik is, African Renaissance, doen patrollies die terrein en het gemerk iets is nie pluis nie. Mnr. Rousseau bedank hierdie maatskappy vir hul flinke diens.
Horrific accident on N4 Two people have died and six, five of them members of the SAPS, have sustained serious injuries in an accident involving five vehicles on the N4 toll road near Ngodwana outside Nelspruit in Mpumalanga. Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, says the police officials were hit by a truck while attending to an accident scene involving two cars. Five people were injured when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided into another vehicle before running into the five officials who were working on another accident scene. We are once more appealing for increased vigilance on the part of motorists," says Mmusi. Meanwhile, 16 people have been injured after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the N2 near Mkhuze in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Three of the injured, who were passengers in the bakkie, are in a critical condition. They have been taken to a local hospital. KZN Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie says: "Three of the patients are injured critically and the others sustained serious injuries. They were treated by paramedics and ambulances from private services. They all worked together treating the patients at the scene by transporting them through to hospital for further care. The cause of the accident is unknown and is being investigated by the police.”

Jip, ons weet! Gifappel skryf: Na aanleiding van die swak toestande van Mpumalanga, om Lydenburg veral, se swak paaie net die volgende. Ons het die voorreg gehad om vir 6 weke in die Weskaap, Wellington as basis, te kon gaan ontspan gedurende Desember en Januarie. Gedurende die tyd het ons die volgende plekke besoek: Ceres, Paarl, Somerset-wes, Kleinmond, Stellenbosch (oor Helshoogte pas gery vanaf Stellenbosch na Franschhoek en vandaar na Paarl), Malmesbury en tot by Vredenburg. Nou wat hiervan? Wel gedurende die tyd en oor die afstande het ons slegs een, ja u lees reg net een slaggat gekry en die was ongeveer 300mm in deursnit en seker bietjie dieper as die teeroppervlakte. Hierdie slaggat was net buite Wellington op pad na Malmesbury. Na die naweek in Vredenburg was die gat egter alweer herstel met ons terugkoms die Maandag. Daar is ook baie lapplekke, maar met teer opgevul en nie hobbels of duike by die herstelplekke nie. Nêrens is 'n gat met grond opgevul nie en verseker ook nie gedoen deur paloekas nie. Om dit te kan vermag moet daar natuurlik ook geld wees. My wiskunde is nie van die beste nie, maar hoop my som is korrek. Gestel daar is net 50 slaggate vanaf Dullstroom tot in Lydenburg en ek druk dit uit in persentasie gate, let wel hier word nie per kilometer gewerk nie net gate. Neem die volgende voorbeeld: twee gate is dus 200% meer gate as 1 gat? Vyf gate is dus 500% meer as een en daarom behoort 50 gate ongeveer 5,000% meer gate te wees? Indien omgeskakel moet word na aantal gate per km om statisties korrek te wees sal dit 'n geweldige taak wees en baie groot verskil mee bring! Deur al die dorpe het ek geen robot gekry wat buite werking was nie. Wit lyne is oral aangebring by stop-strate, voor robots, in die middel van die paaie, by hoogtes is die merke baie duidelik sodat dit nie verwarring geskep het waar padverbruikers voertuie verby mag en nie mag gaan nie. Nou die vrae: Hoekom is die Weskaap se infrastruktuur soveel beter? Tipe voertuie, aantal voertuie en trokke, die tipe mense wat daar aan bewind is en daar woon, diefstal van geld en toerusting, wat omgee vir hul kiesers en dus hul beloftes na-kom, opposisie wat hul kant bring ens ens? Die ANC se woordvoerder het Vrydag 24 deser (sic) oor die nuus belowe dat hul nou bedrog ens gaan bekamp maar die vraag is wie gaan dit doen en hoe? Hoe kan een bedrieër/ skelm/ misdadiger 'n ander een vervolg? Wat het hulle die afgelope jare gedoen en toegelaat en hoekom nou ewe skielik verander? Hier moet ons as kiesers ingryp en met ons verstand stem en nie met ons harte nie.
Besteel by karwas Hennie Fourie van Krugersdorp skryf: Ek wil graag my storie van teleurstelling, skok en woede tot die mede Lydenburgers deel. Ek het Vrydag 17 Januarie gekuier by my familie in Ohrigstad vanaf Krugersdorp. Dink dit toe goed om my motor na Lydenburg te neem vir ’n was so 12h30 die middag. Die motorwassery het baie teleurstellende diens aan my gelewer. Die opsigter het in sy eie woorde vir my en my vrou Jackie laat verstaan dat dit ’n ou probleem is wat hy daagliks mee moet opsit. Asseblief, waarsku ek al die Lydenburgers en besoekers om baie versigtig te wees wanneer hul motors vat om te was by die plek. Ja ek is bewus van die kennisgewing, maar gee dit die mense wat daar werk die reg om kliënte te besteel?

Die Outoppie Verset
VERSET beteken teenkanting, opposisie, muitery, bevraagteken of weerstand bied. In ons land kry dit nog meer betekenis in die vorm van stakings, bande brand, klippe gooi, motors omkeer, winkels plunder, mense vermoor en dans soos in toitoi. Die betowering van ’n Tombola. ’n Regte Tombola by ’n kerk of fees waar mens op allerhande goed afkom wat jy nie nodig het nie. Bygesê op ’n kerkbasaar verlede jaar het ek ’n stel teelepels gekoop wat ek in geen winkel sou kon uitsnuffel nie. Mens moet baie vriendelik met die Tombola-mensies wees en vyf kaartjies koop. Dan kan jy partykeer self ietsie kies en nie volgens die nommer-stelsel nie. Saterdag by ons kerkbasaar het ek skoon vergeet om eerste Tombola toe te gaan. Sien ek is een van daardie goedjiesmense. Nog ’n woord is Allegaartjies. Ophoopmal en versamelvrate. Met magnete trek sommiges dingetjies en datjies aan soos trekpleisters. 'n Ander goeie Afrikaanse woord is kaggelk*kkies. Met permissie gesê natuurlik en met die hoop dat niemand aanstoot met sterretjie sal neem nie. Ai, die Afrikanervolk darem. Ek het al in 'n gastehuis tuisgegaan wat 'karakter' het dat tot akteurs nie hulself sal kan vind nie. Op die advertensie is dit beskryf as 'n karaktervolle ou huis met 'n nostalgiese inslag. Nostalgies beteken seker in hulle woordeboek hekellappies onder elke potjie, lampie (was nege net in die sitkamer) en kosbaarhede. Die gasvryheid en sprankelende bejaarde egpaar het egter hiervoor opgemaak. Terloops, die gastehuis het die vingertrektoets geslaag en geen stof is gevind nie. Daarom respekteer ek hulle smaak. Soos julle weet verskil almal sin. Soos 'n valk bespied ek vlooimarkte met die hoop om op die fonds van die eeu af te kom. Tog besef ek dat koffietafels net só groot is en dat die meubelpolitoer al hoe duurder word… Genoeg is genoeg van een ding. Al is daar hoeveel kosbaarhede in die winkels, dit beteken nie alles moet in jou huis uitgestal word nie. Koop se gat is groot. Hoorhiersô, moenie dat ons mekaar verkeerd verstaan nie. Ek sal nooit van my goedjies wil afskeid neem nie. Ek het pragtige items wat onuitgepak in bokse wag om die lig te aanskou. Sommige het art nouveau-kenmerke of art deco. Opgaar los te veel moeite as dit by oppak kom. Mens kan nie 'n sleepwa saam met jou vat op pad uit nie. ~ Michelle Boshoff

Bo en behalwe al die verset wat ons in die land teen die regering sien, stem almal wat erg aan die verset sindroom ly, steeds vir die onderdrukker van die afgelope 20 jaar, naamlik die ANC. So, die verset en die realiteit kom nie by mekaar uit nie. Soos baie dinge in Suid Afrika, gaan die verset teen die regering en die gelyktydige ondersteuning daarvan nie met logika gepaard nie en maak dit glad nie sin nie. En die arme werkers van Sanral kan vir die regering dankie sê daarvoor, dat hulle by ’n plek werk waar almal hulle haat. Want die e-Tol ding is nog een van die baie regeringsplanne om ’n paar ouens ryk te maak en die meeste geld landuit te stuur vir hulle pelle. Ons het nou reeds die betogings, die wit poeier en die bomdreigemente gesien. Die aftakeling van die staalstrukture en diefstal van al die mooi kameras en koperkabels kom nog. Ja, die ding met Sanral gaan nie werk nie sien. Ons het julle mos gewaarsku, maar nee, wat weet ons!
Bekende boer oorlede THE LYDENBURG SAPS and representatives of shops in the Central Business area held a meeting on Friday 17 January to discuss issues regarding shoplifting in town. Moreover to share the good preventative measures to reduce shoplifting, as it has been alarming for the past ten months. The issue of shoplifting is affecting the town negatively. The SAPS said that attendance was not up to par, especially from the shops that are affected by this crime. Shop managers raised their concerns regarding policing of shoplifting and the police shared their frustrations in return. Some shop managers acknowledged the good work the police did, especially during the Festive Season, including Edgars, Longtom SuperSpar and Express Stores. Stolen items from Edgars, Express Stores, PEP Stores and Foschini were recovered by the police. Police are appealing to the community to stop buying stolen items from anyone. “We all have a social responsibility to report any criminal activities,” said Capt. M. A. Mashabela, communications officer:

Mrs Ann Stewart from Dullstroom writes: This is a letter of thanks to three unknown people, who helped me when I was in distress. My husband teaches art, and we had planned a weekend of sketching and painting at Millstream at the end of November. We arrived on the 21st and went shopping. We had been told about an Indian shop, recommended for striped sneakers. The shop is one street up from the main road, and has six uncomfortable steps to get in. We bought the sneakers and left. I have to use crutches, because of two failed hip operations, and as I approached the top step, my husband said, “Watch the steps.” I answered, “Steps are easy for crutch….” When I realised that my heel was still on the top step. All my weight was forward, and suddenly I tumbled down those steps on to the pavement below where I lay dazed. Immediately, three men leapt forward and started to pick me up. Both of my knees were out of commission, and I couldn't move or sit or stand. My husband brought the car, and I was levered and wedged into the front seat. I have no idea who the three men were, but I would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to them. So far, the story has a happy ending. My right leg is fine – I think it only had torn tendons. The left knee has a small fracture and is being held in a brace for about two months. I am lucky that I didn't fall on my back, or my face.

COMPACT cars showed some major safety vulnerabilities in new crash tests performed by an insurance industry group in the USA. None of the 12 small cars tested achieved the highest rating of "good" in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's small overlap front crash test. The Chevrolet Spark was the only car that earned the second-highest rating of "acceptable." Six of the cars got the lowest rating of "poor." "Small, lightweight vehicles have an inherent safety disadvantage. That's why it's even more important to choose one with the best occupant protection," said Joe Nolan, IIHS's senior vice president for vehicle research. The institute's small overlap test, which was introduced in 2012, mimics what happens when a car's front corner collides with another vehicle or an object like a utility pole. In the test, 25 percent of a vehicle's front end on the driver's side strikes a rigid barrier at 64km/h. The test differs from the US government's frontal crash test, in which a car strikes a rigid barrier head-on at 56km/h. The Chevrolet Spark was the only car deemed acceptable after the crash test session. IIHS says hitting only part of the front end makes it harder for cars to manage the energy from a crash. In several of the compact cars, the structures collapsed, which can exacerbate injuries because the air bags, seats and other parts get knocked out of position. In the test of the Honda Fit (Jazz in SA), for example, the steering column pushed so far into the vehicle that the dummy's head slid off the air bag and hit the instrument panel. IIHS said the Fit was one of the worst performers in terms of potential injuries to the driver. Honda responded that the 2015 Fit, which goes on sale this year, should earn a top score on the small offset test. The recently redesigned Honda Civic, which is one size up from the Fit, is among five small cars with "good" ratings on the test. The current Fit does get top scores in the institute's other four tests, including measurements of roof strength and side impact protection. IIHS said the Fiat 500 was also one of the worst performers. The crash force ripped the door hinges off the 500, causing it to fall open during the test. Spokesman Eric Maybe said the Fiat 500 meets all government safety requirements and, like the Fit, gets "good" ratings in all four of the institute's other crash tests. Cars with "marginal" ratings were the Kia Rio, Mazda2, Toyota Yaris and Ford Fiesta. HONDA has revived one of its most popular bikes with a model range update in the form of the 75cc bigger units, the NC750X and NC750X DCT. The bikemaker says the new machine has more power and torque, two balance shafts, new exhaust muffler and taller gearing – plus a host of detail upgrades, and revised software for the optional DCT gearbox. It also says the additions "improve one of the most cost-effective and allround useful motorcycles available". The NC700X was launched in 2012 as a brand new model, part of a threebike platform that became one of the best-selling commuter motorcycles in South Africa. Its purpose was to be a “Fun Crossover Commuter concept” with convenient details such as helmet storage space where the fuel tank would normally be. The new model, says Honda, is designed to offer more of what every rider liked about the original, and nothing less. The gearing is 6% taller, but acceleration and top speed are up; two balance shafts and new exhaust muffler ensure a smooth, characterful engine. Other new goodies include a span-adjustable brake lever, two-channel anti-lock brakes (only available on six-speed dual clutch transmission –DCT model), revised seat material and off-road pattern tyres. The DCT also received software updates. Honda says 75cc has been added to the liquid-cooled, SOHC eight-valve parallel twin-cylinder engine thanks to a bore increased 4mm to 77mm. Stroke remains at 80mm, as does compression ratio of 10.7:1. Still made in Japan, power is boosted to 40.3kW at 6250rpm with 68Nm at 4750rpm. The bikemaker says: “Our engineers have added an extra balance shaft
to inject the engine with just the right amount of ‘good’ vibration. The effect of the twin balancers is to counteract vibration from higher rpm inertia, making the engine feel more refined, yet still with the distinct ‘throb’ delivered by its 270° firing order. “ Parts are kept to a minimum and the engine weighs 62.4kg and 69.2kg in DCT form. Fuel consumption is rated at about 3.5 litres/100km so expect 400km range from the 14.1-litre under seat fuel tank. Seat height is 830mm and the seat itself features a new cover for improved grip. The clear and easy-to-read instrument display features a digital speedometer, digital bar-type tachometer, clock, bar-type fuel meter and two trip meters. A gear position indicator and ‘instant’ and ‘average’ fuel consumption readings are new. Honda also says the NC750X features the Honda Ignition Security System (HISS), an effective anti-theft set-up. If the ID chip embedded in
the motorcycle’s key and the ID in the engine control unit do not match, the engine will not start. This means the electronic inter-lock system only allows the engine to fire up when a key with the correct ID chip is used. Also, even if attempts are made to hot-wire the engine or substitute the ignition switch module because it’s the ECU that’s in control, the engine will not start. The NC750X will be available in four colours: silver metallic, black, white and red. As with all Honda bikes, a range of dedicated genuine accessories are available for customisation. Some options include a 35L top box, Pannier kit decoration panel, a top 35L/45L inner bag, DCT footshift gear lever, a higher windscreen, leg or foot deflector kits, accessory pipe, alarm and U-lock to name a few. GENERAL MOTORS het uiteindelik die Opel Astra met die “boot”, as die Astra Sedan bekend gestel. Ons het hom dié week onder hande gehad. Hoewel die neus en die agterkant sterk aan die van die netjiese Mazda 6 herinner, is die geheelbeeld baie mooi. Ek het nog altyd gesê dat ’n sedanmotor baie mooier is as ’n luikrug. Dit is ook baie meer prakties a.g.v. die groot bagasieruim. Maar nou ja, Suid Afrikaners hou van hulle “hatchbacks”. Vir my is ’n sedanmotor net meer statig. Dit vertoon luukser en “duurder”. Ons toetsmotor was die 1.4T Essentia AT. Dit beteken dit is toegerus met GM se puik 1.4 turboenjin (wat ons onlangs in die Cruze getoets het) en dat hierdie een ook die 6-spoed outoratkas met tikfunksie het. Nou, in die ou dae was ’n 2-liter outomatiese motor lui. Dit is nie meer so nie en veel kleiner enjins werk deesdae goed met ’n outokas. As jy hierdie Opel looi, loop hy dat dit bars. Die geringe turbotraagheid, gekoppel met die outokas maak hom nie blitsig van die merk af nie, maar as die turbo begin werk, stap hy. Die traagheid het my meer opgeval op spoed, as jy wil verbygaan. Wanneer jy die versneller plant, duur dit ’n sekonde of twee voor hy afrat en begin versnel. Maar jy kan die tikfunsie van die ratkas gebruik en klaar afrat voor jy verbysteek. Dit werk goed. Tipies van Opel, spreek hierdie motor van gehalte. Alles pas, is goed aanmekaar gesit en werk goed. Padgedrag, remme, veiligheidskenmerke en elke ding is van die beste. Die kajuit is ’n aangename plek om tyd in deur te bring. Die lugversorger werk skitterend. Met die voorsitplekke tot heel agter geskuif is daar min sprake van beenruimte, maar as jy die voorsitplekke so skuif dat jy gemaklik sit, is daar plek vir medium volwassenes agter. Die turboenjin maak 103kW en 200Nm en loop seepglad. Die ratte is lekker lank en die enjin draai ’n rustige 3000 opm teen 160. Volgens GM kan jy in die gekombineerde siklus kyk na sowat 15 km per liter. Die Astra kom met 17 duim alooiwiele en ’n langspeelplaat vir ’n spaar. Dit het darem tot gevolg dat die bagasieruim groot en diep is. Daar is skyfremme op al vier wiele. Daar is ABS, EBD, HBFA, BDC, kragruite voor (op die 1.6T Cosmo is al die ruite kragbeheer), togbeheer, 6 lugsakke, misligte, alarm, aftandbeheerde sentrale sluit en bagasiebak open, lugversorging, klankstelsel met iPod en USB in, Bloutand en ritrekenaar. Op die topspesifikasie Cosmo 1.6. Turbo is daar nog ’n rits ekstras beskikbaar. So, hoe vergelyk die motor met sy eie direkte kompetisie uit GM se stal, die Cruze 1.4 T wat ons twee weke gelede getoets het? Wel, die Cruze is ruimer en ek dink sy onderstel is beter. Die Cruze kom uit Korea. Die Astra kom uit Duitsland. Dit is duurder, waarskynlik beter gebou en veiliger. Toerusting op die topvlak motor is beter. Hulle trek dieselfde met dieselfde enjinklasse. Albei bestuur baie lekker en albei se hantering op spoed en remme is uitstekend. As my beursie dit toelaat en ek veiligheid prioritiseer, sal ek die Astra sedan koop, maar as bekostigbaarheid en praktiese ruimte my oorweging is, klop niks die Cruze nie. Dit bring my dan by hierdie Astra se sterk punte. Die outokas is heerlik in die dorp en op die oop pad. Die motor is stewig en stil en goed toegerus. Dit voel veilig. Die lugversorging is uitstekend. My kritiek wentel om die feit dat net die voorruite kragbeheer het (die dae van kragruite net voor is lankal verby). Selfs intreemotors uit China het kraghulp op al vier ruite. Agterste beenruimte is knap. Algeheel, ’n puik motor. Die bestuurservaring het my herinner waarom ek al vir baie jare lank Opels gekoop het. Andre Coetzee.
THIS week we tested the GWM H6 2.0 TCI SUV, as supplied by GWM Lydenburg. The Chinese company GWM has just celebrated an excellent result in the recent Dakar race. We of course tested the previous H5, and must agree that this new generation is better in all respects, although I suspect that the previous model was slightly larger. H6 is totally new. New body with neat contemporary styling, new interior, new, powerful and efficient engines and new 6-speed gearboxes. The diesel which we tested produces 105kW of power and makes an impressive 310Nm of torque. The car pulls strongly from about 2 000 rpm up to about 3 500 rpm. The 6-speed gearbox feels chunky but shifts precisely, with a nice, short gearstick. There are 17 inch alloy wheels and disc brakes on all four wheels. Brakes are good. Ride quality on our poor surface streets is firm, but very nice on the open road. In fact, the new H6 feels better the faster you go. At 140 the drive is very pleasant and relaxed, with the engine purring along at 2 500 rpm, smack in the middle of maximum torque range. The car feels much more solid than the previous model. Everything fits and there are no interior rattles or strange noises. Aircon (climate control), sound system, electric windows and all other gizmos work well. The H6 comes very well appointed. There are leather seats, touchscreen sound with Bluetooth, USB and AUX in, SD card reader, rain sensing wipers, fold down armrests, power steering with remote controls and adjustable for rake and reach, two airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, tyre pressure monitor on the info screen between the main instruments, twin, lighted vanity mirrors, electric outside mirrors, reverse parking camera on the large screen, front and rear fog lamps, tinted glass, remote central locking and alarm / immobiliser. There is a rear spoiler on the roof, chrome detailing, a huge central console storage area, a two storey boot organiser and this SUV is available in six colours. There is also a 1.5 turbopetrol available, that makes 105kW, but less torque than the diesel. In all, this is a comfortable, medium to large, well specced SUV, available at a very affordable price. So, is it better than its competitors? In its price range we think so. It is not a Fortuner, Chevy Trailblazer or Kia Sorento, but then you should expect to pay about R150 000 more if you want one of the other vehicles. The new GWM H6 is well worth a serious look. New SACBW committee announced: The new committee team for the South African Council for Business Women (SACBW) Lowveld branch has been announced and the team is eager to start the year! DIE deelname by die 2014 Interhuis byeenkoms van die Hoërskool Lydenburg was opwindend en daar was sterk deelname wat die skool dan ook 'n goeie span gee vir die byeenkomste vorentoe en die vir die Interhoer op 22 Februarie 2014. Hulle het puik gevaar met die afgelope Interhuis by die hoërskool en uitsonderlike prestasies bereik, onder andere die jnr. Meisies Victrix Lodorum Eunice Steenkamp en snr.
