Suffer without electricity Several businesses were without electricity for the whole weekend, and it still continued by the time the Highlands Panorama News was going to print on Tuesday. Apparently an electrical component of R300 000 that was broken, was part of the problem. Other reports from Thaba Chweu technicians were that “something blew up”. The whole Pick n Pay Centre was affected as well as other businesses in the CBD. Pick n Pay was forced to work using a generator that costs thousands of rands to run in fuel. “I just want our clients to know that we are not responsible for the delay of their orders. We have been struggling this whole weekend to get a solution. It is not only A1 Dry Cleaners that is suffering but other businesses in the CBD too,” said Mr Antonie van Rooyen, owner of A1 Dry Cleaners. According to him the electricity was disconnected on Saturday at around 11:45. There was no way for the businesses to go the municipality and find out what what the problem was. They also could not reach anyone on the municipal emergency number. This situation is similar to the front page article last week. The High Court in Pretoria granted Platinum Property Investments an interdict to restrain Thaba Chweu Municipality to cut of the electricity supply. Mr Van Rooyen said that this article (on February 27) just showed that business owners should stand together with regards to illegal electricity disconnections. • Another basic service, water supply, was a huge concern in The Heads, Lydenburg Fisheries, etc. These areas were without water for days and are up in arms because no solution has been offered. ~ Michelle Boshoff

Elaine Grobler, (eienaar Global Artists asook MP direkteur van SAATME), het gesê daar is soveel potensiaal in die provinsie. “Ek hoop om volgende jaar nog meer inskrywings te kan hê! Baie geluk aan almal wat deurgedring het na die SA Kampioenskappe in Rustenburg later hierdie jaar,” het sy gesê. Road Accident Fund (RAF) warns public about scam Con artists purporting to be from the “National Road Accident Fund” are soliciting confidential information from innocent members of the public, under the pretext that compensation cheques will be deposited into their personal bank accounts. Potential victims are either phoned, texted, or sent an e-mail containing an attached form which falsely utilises a Road Accident Fund (RAF) Executive's name and an outdated RAF logo. In most cases, the people being called have never claimed from the RAF, nor have they been involved in road accidents. The RAF will not request information from claimants using an unofficial email account. Claimants' information is only recorded using an official RAF form containing an official logo, which can be viewed on their website, www.raf.co.za. In addition, any correspondence will have the name of the RAF official, which can be verified through the RAF Call Centre, 0860 23 55 23. Members of the public are advised to report fraud on the RAF's anonymous tip-off line on 0800 00 59 19, or contact the Call Centre if they receive suspicious correspondence.

Object at municipality to value of property

he Thaba Chweu Municipality has issued a document for residents to object to the value of their properties. An elderly couple, on pension, were very concerned on Tuesday when they visited the Highlands Panorama News. Their property value has increased by R400 000 and they don’t know how this will affect their monthly rates and taxes. Baie inwoners in Wyk 12 het ons gekontak en genoem dat hulle nie vir die DA sal stem nie omdat die DA die herstel van grondregte steun. En die DA omarm die ANC se beleidsrigtings. Soos met hul steun aan regstellende aksie. Die inwoners was ook ongelukkig met die kortstondige 'huwelik uit die hel' tussen die DA en Agang. Ons as VF+ bestuur is ten volle bewus dat die DA baie tradisionele kiesers aan die VF+ afgestaan het en ons werk hard aan stemdag op 7 Mei.

Skrywer spandeer tyd in Lydenburg Sy is al ’n huishoudelike naam in Suid-Afrika en haar leesstof gee groot stof tot nadenke. Die skrywer Annelie Botes het as deel van haar besoek aan Lydenburg Vrydag die PNA besoek. Sy wou graag van haar lesers ontmoet en handtekeninge uitdeel. Sy het lekker gesels met almal wat haar kom sien het. Van haar bekende boeke is Thula-Thula en Swart op Wit, om slegs twee te noem. En sy het advies uitgedeel oor die proses van boeke skryf. Sy was van kleintyd vriende met Kringe-in-die-Bos skrywer wyle Dalene Matthee. Sy noem Dalene Matthee haar sielsma. Dalene se raad aan Annelie was om “met jou een hand te skryf en die ander hand te sit en dink.” So het sy altyd gesorg dat sy aan die skryf bly want dit is waar die ware werk inkom vir ’n boek. En met die ander hand die struktuur, beplanning en storielyn te vervolkmaak vir die volgende boek. Sterkspruit Veterinary Clinic celebrates 20 years F

OR the past 20 years Sterkspruit Veterinary Clinic has given Lydenburg and its animals professional care and love. Dr David Huchzermeyer and his wife Dr Philippa Colly started the practice 20 years ago. They dedicated their birthday to Mr Johannes Maeyane, who was with them when they started the clinic 20 years ago. His family is still an important part of the clinic. From humble beginnings the clinic grew over the years to a place where animal lovers know their pets will be taken care of. Family pets are only one of the many fields they specialize in. Here is a short biography from all the veterinarians. Dr Huchzermeyer is the prinicipal veterinarian in this practice. After qualifying as a veterinarian from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 1983 he gained his Masters degree from the University of Stirling in Scotland in 1985. His special interests are dairy herd health, small animal orthopaedics, fish diseases and rehabilitation care of raptors. He has spent several years working with large dairies in Saudi Arabia including two years managing the animal health care on the world's largest integrated dairy farm, Al Safi. Dr. Huchzermeyer is involved in various fish related research projects. He obtained his PhD degree from the University of Pretoria in 2013. Dr Colly handles the over all practice management and also consults in the clinic. She qualified as a veterinarian from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, in 1983 and spent the early years of her career in charge of the Veterinary Laboratory in Queenstown. She was State Veterinarian in Lydenburg from1986-1990. She has a special interest in sheep diseases and has written chapters on Bolo disease and seneciosis for several books. She shares her love for wildlife and nature with her husband, Dr. Huchzermeyer, and their three sons Dr Davis completed his first degree at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. He

Lydenburg. He has a special interest in infectious diseases, dairy herd health and small animal medicine. He completed his Master of Science degree in tropical diseases at the University of Pretoria in 2012. In his free time he pursues his

passion for photography and nature. Dr Brink has been with the clinic since 2008 after spending four years working in mixed and small animal practice in the UK. He qualified as a veterinarian from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 2003. His interests are horses and small animal surgery. His hobbies include bee keeping, hiking, travelling and birding. He is married to Hestia who is also a veterinarian. Dr Chester Browne joined the clinic in 2011. After qualifying with an agriculture degree from the University of Pretoria in 1994 he spent 8 years working in the livestock production and nutrition sectors. He then continued his studies and qualified as a veterinarian from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 2009. His agricultural background provides valuable livestock experience for our farming clients. Brian has a keen interest in the outdoors. BMW unveiled the latest versions of two of their most popular models, the R1200GS Adventure and the 2014 R1200RT, at Bavarian Motorcycles in Pretoria. The Adventure version has been eagerly awaited since the launch of the standard GS in 2013 and now South African adventure bikers can place their orders. BMW Motorrad’s marketing manager Greg Coetzee said: “The new R1200 GS Adventure continues the tradition of rugged, reliable machines, building on the dynamic performance characteristics and excellent off-road and touring capabilities of the R1200 GS to provide the ultimate solution for globetrotters, travel enduro aficionados and touring riders with a passion for off-road action.” Like the R1200 GS, the Adventure is also built around a robust and torsionally resistant tubular steel space frame. However, it has a 30litre tank (10 more than the R1200 GS) for greater range, and the tank is now made of aluminium. The bike also comes with ABS, stability control and two riding modes, “Rain” and “Road”, which enable the riding characteristics to be adapted to most road conditions.

INNISFIL, Ontario — Nearly 100 vehicles piled up in a crash as a snow storm blanketed a freeway. Pictures and videos of the pile-up show how drivers lost control of their vehicles because of poor visibility, slippery tar and the strong wind. An Ontario provincial police spokesperson said officers counted 96 vehicles involved in the chain-reaction crash on Highway 400 south of Toronto but no major injuries were reported. It happened as a snow squall moved into the region off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay in south-eastern Canada, creating white-out conditions on the highway. Ek ry bekostigbare motors wat in SA beskikbaar is en ek laat nie die bande rook nie. Dit is nie nodig nie. Eerste indrukke van die Fiesta is goed. Mooi in rooi! Die Recaro sitplekke hou jou vas. Die toerustingsvlakke is hoog. Nie baie plek vir groot mense agter nie. Druk die stop / start knoppie en die motor kry lewe. Haak eerste op die sesspoed rathefboom. Dit skakel presies. Trek stadig weg en jy voel dadelik die wringkrag. Jy hoef hom nie te “rev” om aan die gang te kom nie. Haak tweede en roer hom. Boeta! Die 1600 turbo hol soos ’n misdadiger met ’n kwaai oom met ’n twaalfboor agter hom. Haak derde, vierde, vyfde, en sesde en ek lag soos ek lanklaas van lekkerte gelag het. Die 134 kW klink nie vreeslik nie, maar die 240 Nm wringkrag praat jou taal. Beter nog, dit is vanaf 1 600 omwentelinge af beskikbaar. Daar is 17 duim allooiwiele, (kleiner spaar), elektriese kragstuur met al die nodige kontroles op en verstelbaar op-&-af en in-&-uit, sewe lugsakke, Ford SYNC vermaaklikheidstelsel met goeie klankstelsel, iPod / USB, Bloutand en elke ding, elektriese ruite, ABS, EBD, ESP, HLA, EBA, sleutellose inklim en aanskakel en alarm immobiliseerder. Daar is togbeheer, ’n ritrekenaar, allooipedale, klimaatbeheer (outo lugversorging), twee 12V kragsokke, omgewingsbeligting (ambient lighting), parkeersensors agter en misligte. Ek hou nie van die plat wieletjies soos wat op alle haastige motors voorkom nie en die veerstelsel is vir my ou lyfie te hard. Ek hou van al die ander dinge. Ek is mal oor die soliede gevoel, die positiewe aard van al die kontroles en die fenomenale remme en enjin. Die Ford Fiesta ST is nie vir beginners nie. Hy is vinnig. Hy sal jou jou uithaal as jy dink jy kan bestuur. Gaan vir ’n kursus en behandel hom met respek. Myns insiens die beste klein Ford ooit! Andre Coetzee.

KIA Motors South Africa has released an updated version of its popular Sportage SUV. These changes include exterior, as well as interior modifications. Under the skin changes include the adoption of six-speed manual and sixspeed automatic transmissions, mated to 2,0-litre petrol and turbodiesel engines, for improved fuel efficiency. As is the current trend the updated Sportage will move away from hydraulic power steering and adopt a more efficient electric power steering unit. Exterior changes include a new grille, foglamp housings and lower bumper section, while new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs are offered. Slight changes to the interior include soft padding on the upper trim of the doors while the standard sound system has been modified. ROOIKATTE het voor verlede Saterdag hul rugbyjaar begin met rugby te Malelane. Albei spanne het op Malelane gepeel in die bloedige hitte. Ons spanne het ongelukkig nie gewen nie, maar Thinus Bouwer, die afrigter is baie opgewonde oor die talent by die klub. Hy sê dat dit nog vroeg in die seisoen is en daar ’n paar groot spanne nog gaan pak kry. Die kombinasie tussen die ouer en jong nuwe spelers is veral ’n ligpunt vir die klub. THE 2014 Senior A National Fly Fishing Championships will be taking place from the 14-17 March. The team will be fishing at various venues but the main venue will be Verlorenkloof opposite Kwênadam. Other venues will be Forelwater outside Belfast and Little Troutbeck between Dullstroom and Machadodorp . This annual competition sees the top fly anglers from all around the country compete for team honours and to accrue individual points on the national ranking system. Although the Mpumalanga Fly Fishing Association is not hosting this event it is still being hosted in Mpumalanaga and the Highlands area. Northern Gauteng is the hosts for 2014. MFFA will be hosting the Ladies Nationals next year and then the Youth Nationals in 2016. Close to 40 anglers will compete over a three day period comprising five, three hour sessions on a 9.4 kilometre stretch of the little Crocodile River running through the Verlorenkloof Estate.

Maurice Bezant, wat al 22 jaar lank betrokke is by klubrugby, het gesê dit is ’n eer vir hom om weer die posisie te beklee, en hy sal uit sy pad gaan vir die behoud en groei van Laeveld en klub rugby.
