he vets at Sterkspruit Veterinary Clinic have, over the years, volunteered their assistance and resources to rehabilitate many wild animals that have been brought to their clinic by the public. Currently they are treating a Cape vulture that was found near the ESKOM powerlines in Badfontein. The bird was unable to fly and was rescued by a local farmer. Examination followed by radiography established that two bones in the right wing had been fractured. The injury was consistent with an in-flight collision with ESKOM's high tension electricity line. Surgical intervention by Sterkspruit Veterinary Clinic resulted in a successful reduction and stabilization of the fractures using two bone implants. The vulture is now recovering in the able hands of Sterkspruit Veterinary Clinic's committed staff. The bird weighs 8 kg and consumes a substantial amount of meat. Pick n Pay Lydenburg have kindly sponsored the feeding of the vulture. The bird has full use of the wing and prospect for successful rehabilitation back into the wild is good. Once the implants have been removed the vulture will be transferred to VULPRO, South Africa's vulture conservation and rehabilitation programme. Injuries caused by ESKOM's high tension power lines and pylons are believed to be one of a number of reasons for declining numbers of South Africa's endangered Cape vultures. These vultures are often seen in the Lydenburg area where, amongst others, they use cliffs of the Steenkamps Berg to roost at night. These birds probably stem from the breeding colony on the cliffs at Manoutsa. Vultures play an essential ecological role. They rapidly consume the carcasses of deceased animals, both farmed and wild. This limits potential health hazards related to decomposing animal carcasses left lying in the veld. Various conservation programmes have been established to decrease the ongoing loss of these majestic birds. The rehabilitation of injured vultures is one such effort that aims to release recovered birds back into the wild once their ability to fly and soar has been established. Sterkspruit Veterinary Clinic is proud to be in a position to help ensure that viable breeding vultures are not lost from the wild populations.

The milestones are different for each age range THE situation with regards to Mpumalanga’s roads, which are now arguably the worst in the country continues to deteriorate. The R36 from Bambi to the Limpopo Border close to the Pilgrimsrest turnoff is in a horrific state. From there onwards the Limpopo government has handed the R36 to SANRAL and the road was properly reconstructed in record time. The R36 will also alleviate the issue of hundreds of trucks destroying the roads of Thaba Chweu on a daily basis, but can currently not be used by those trucks. Due to this the R37 across the Longtom Pass, which is maintained by SANRAL is falling apart rapidly. The Lydenburg Mashishing Business Chamber has repeatedly called on Provincial Goverment to transfer all roads, including the link in Lydenburg for the R37 to Sanral with immediate effect, with limited response from the authorities.
It appears that Province receives a grant for the number of kilometres under its management from Central Government. Why the Province does not maintain those roads remains a mystery. Current repairs to the R36 are prohibitively expensive, and too few and take too long. The Highlands Panorama News have obtained the names and numbers of those officials responsible for the Province’s roads. Uit op ’n leeu’jag’ Deur Michelle Boshoff Vir sowat 'n week het dit gegons op sosiale media of die leeu wat gewaar is op die R37 'n klug of waarheid is. Maar Saterdagoggend 03:00 is dit bevestig. Die leeu het doodluiters oor die pad geloop by Hops Hollow Brewery op die Longtompas en is deur Van Wettens Insleepdienste gewaar. Hulle het die SAPD Lydenburg in kennis gestel en die SAPD het mnr. Gerrie Camacho ingeroep. Hy het hom dadelik na die plek gehaas. Die leeu het homself gehelp aan ‘n bees en in die veld gelê en vreet, terwyl almal in aksie gespring het om hom te vang oorkant Hops Hollow. Mnr. Camacho, roofdierkenner- en wetenskaplike van die Mpumalanga Toerisme en Parke Agentskap en bekend vir sy werk met onder meer swart luiperds, het Dinsdag gesê sy kollegas, onder meer Tommie Steyn, Malcolm Bain en al die ander het begin oproepe maak. Van die helpers was Anglo se Cornel du Plessis, mnr.
Willem Pretorius met sy span jaghonde (voorwaar ‘n gesig om te aanskou soos hulle laer trek om die leeu, die video is op die internet), Phoenix Security met hul ‘drone’ vliegtuig, en Des Jacobs wat die leeu uit die lug dopgehou het en so die span ondersteun het en presies kon sê waar dit leeu is, ’n span van Potato Seed Production en ook die persoon met die mikrovliegtuig, daar was baie helpers wat bedank word. Dr Ferreira du Plessis, MTPA veearts, het van Nelspruit af gekom en kom help met die pylwerk. “Die leeu was nog besig om te vreet en hy was kalm. Hy is ongeveer 06:00 gepyl met eerste lig. DNA is geneem en kan nou getoets word. Hy is by African Wildlife Vets vir toetse en hy sal daar in aanhouding bly. Daar is 'n hele proses wat gevolg moet word,” het mnr. Camacho gesê. Die prioriteit is om die leeu te hervestig. Hy is ongeveer 4-5 jaar oud en kom vermoedelik van die Kruger Wildtuin

Die kompleks het unieke eienskappe en uitdagings en daar is tog sekerlik plaaslike etlike k u n d i g e sekerheidsmaatskappye wat na die situasie kan kyk en met werkbare planne vorendag kan kom? Miskien kan ’n
basiese sekeriteitstelsel daar gevestig word en TCM kan betaal vir so ’n diens, of dit in samewerking met ’n groot maatskappy wat kan help, bestuur? Dit wys net weer dat met harde werk en volharding 'n jong seun van Laerskool Lydenburg tot die grootste hoogtes in staat is. Geslagte Koelemans het op Potchefstroom gestudeer. Dit was ook my Alma Mater. Tussen die familie het die koue vergete geraak met al die warm harte wat geklop het. These are the characteristics of materialistic leaders preoccupied with the agenda of accumulating wealth. Political carnage in KZN, where men and women are slaughtered in front of their children are typical examples of how my people are obsessed with power to accumulate wealth. In biblical terms such people are suffering from mammon spirits or 'spirit of money' First Kings chapter 3 verse 9, King Solomon asked what was known to be the pinnacle of his leadership - answered- wisdom. The King understood that man was created in the image and likelihood of God and the wisdom to lead was in the hands of the father of infinite majesty. The same could be said of our icon Dr Nelson Mandela, the first President of non racial non sexist South Africa. Madiba fully understood that leaders and kings are the embodiment of the people and must strive to be selfless servants of the people and nothing else. In his leadership Madiba always lived by the profound guiding document famously known as the Freedom Charter. The Freedom Charter always reminded all our political leaders of being servants of the people, not prophets as it is the case today. The most prudent and civilised British democracy in our modern day world teaches us that leaders must be accountable to the electorate. It is not difficult if you look at Gupta Premier Supra Mahumapelo in North West province. The people of NW have spoken of the unethical leadership of the Gupta Premier destroying the wealth of the province and using the state institutions to fight dirty NARROW MINDED BATTLES at the expense
of service delivery. The behaviour and prayers of king Solomon quite evidently demonstrated that it is through Wisdom that leaders will be able to govern with dignity and respect. The democratic South Africa did not come cheap and it will never be for sale. It came at a painful price, many lives were lost and many are paralysed fighting for the emancipation of both black and whites. Without any fear of contradicting myself, many of our black leaders are the shadow of their former selves and highly driven by the love of money and to be filthy rich. Their love for money and power to destroy those with commitment is a big shame. Thaba Chweu Municipality is full of capable mayoral leadership and well educated personnel. The extraordinary level of experience and expertise by the municipal manager Mr Patrick Kgoale shown by instilling order and discipline is an element of hope and joy in our municipality. Under his administrative leadership Thaba Chweu will regain its former glory. Bear in mind that TCM has experienced sixteen acting municipal managers in just a short space of five years. Our municipality is a victim of political interference of ANC Bohlabela region. We must be bold enough to request the region to stop its interference in matters of administration and imposing themselves on MIG and equitable shares, due in the first week of July 2018. Jesaja: In plaas van ’n vers die week raai ek graag ons lesers aan om Jesaja met erns te lees. Vergelyk dié openbaring aan Jesaja met ons lewe vandag. Met wat tans in die wêreld aan die gang is. Dit gaan ongemaklik wees en jou waarskynlik ontstel, maar raak rustig en bedink die saak. Miskien sal die woorde van Jesaja ons almal help. Vader laat ons ons leefwyse in heroorweging neem - Amen.
Die storie EK het in die Krugerwildtuin grootgeword en my pa het destyds, as hy ’n liegstorie hoor, gepraat van “Die storie van die leeu” Mens hoor vandag nog leeustories, veral om die kampvuur, of na ’n paar brannas. Groot was my verbasing toe ek laas Dinsdagaand op sosiale media lees van die leeu wat naby die Longtompas langs die pad waargeneem is. Dié deel van die storie was korrek. Ek het gou vir ma gebel, wat

En die reaksie van die groen sosiale media verslaafdes was kostelik. “Moet tog asseblief nie die ou leeutjie doodskiet nie”. “Reg mevrou, ons sal hom eers ’n paar mensies laat opvreet en so sy daggie opkikker”. Die groenes kan gerus wees. Dit is deesdae onwaarskynlik dat iemand die opdrag sou gee dat hy geskiet word. Menselewens en eiendom kom egter in so ’n geval altyd eerste. Die koste van ’n vang en hervestigingsoperasie is astronomies en bewaringsfondse uiters beperk. Tussen begrotingstekorte, politiek, sosiale media, fopnuus en die groenes het ek besluit my eie hervestiging was in my eie belang, so ek en die groenes het nou baie minder stres. SO kort as sowat ’n jaar gelede het Westvaal Mashishing hulle positiewe uitkyk op die toekoms getoon deur ’n pragtige nuwe gebouekompleks in die sentrale sakegebied te vestig. Meer so toe General Motors onttrek en hulle moes beding vir die Isuzu en Opel handelaarskappe. Baie van ons het gewonder of Isuzu op sy eie sou kon voortbestaan, veral gesien in die lig van die reuse verkoopsyfers van Ranger en Hilux. Die doemprofete het egter nie rekening gehou met die uiters lojale aanhang wat Isuzu geniet nie en vandag kan ons sien dit gaan goed met hulle. Dieselfde geld Opel, wat nou deur Peugeot besit word. Die reeks van voertuie bly groei en die verskeidenheid van dienste wat Westvaal aan verbruikers van selfs ander voertuie kan lewer, groei daagliks, met spesialisdienste op verkoelingstelsels die nuutste toevoeging. Verlede Dinsdagaand het Westvaal die bekendstelling van die nuwe Isuzu MU-X en die Opel Grandland X gedoen tydens ’n heerlike geleentheid met iets te drinke en te ete vir almal. Die media (al drie die koerante van ons omgewing) was sterk verteenwoordig en dit was duidelik dat dié twee voertuie positief ontvang is. Die MU-X is natuurlik die logiese opvolger van die Chevrolet Trailblazer en ding mee in die strawwe mark wat oorheers word deur Fortuner en in ’n mindere mate deur Everest (gebaseer op verkope). Die Isuzu het ’n paar kenmerke wat sterk in sy guns tel. Eerstens is dit steeds op ’n Isuzu onderstel gebaseer, maar anders as Trailblazer het dit nou die oor en oor bewese Isuzu 3 liter D-Tec enjin met sesspoed outomatiese ratkaste en soos die kompetisie het dit ’n groot 9” raakskerm vermaaklikheidstelsel. Die MU-X is baie mooi en ons hoop dat dit sal presteer in die mark, veral in terme van waarde vir geld. Die Opel Grandland X is gebaseer op die Peugeot 3008, waar Crossland X op die kleiner 2008 basseer is. Dit lyk op die oog af na ’n baie ruim (lees groot) gesinsvoertuig met alles in wat oop en toe maak en tipiese Opel gehalte. Ek het gehou van sy besondere groot wiele met baie rubber, wat die regte medisyne is vir ons swak paaie. Lesers kan gerus wees dat ek beide hierdie voertuie mettertyd sal toets en dan in ’n beter posisie sal wees om oor hulle kommentaar te lewer. Gaan kyk hoe lyk hulle by Westvaal Mashishing. AFTER recently adding an automated manual derivative to its Kwid range, Renault South Africa has now launched a limited-edition variant dubbed the Kwid Climber. Based on the Dynamique trim level, the Kwid Climber features an exterior styling pack that adds to its faux-SUV look, and is available in either Electric Blue or Planet Grey hues. Renault SA says it will offer just 200 units, all in five-speed manual guise and each priced at R148 900 (that’s R11 000 more than the manual Dynamique variant). So, what do you get for the extra cash? Well, in addition to the model-specific paintjob, there’s added protective cladding on the bumpers, as well as orange accents on the roof, side-mirrors and front bumper. “Climber” decals have also been applied to the front doors. Inside, you’ll find a piano black facia with orange detailing (a treatment also applied to the door trims, air vents, gearknob and steering wheel) as well as the “Climber” insignia on the headrests of the two-tone seats. The Kwid Climber uses the same 1,0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as the other variants in the local range, sending 50 kW and 91 N.m to the front wheels. As with its siblings, the Kwid Climber is equipped with a driver’s airbag, but does without ABS (an issue we highlighted in our original road test), although Renault SA has stated that it expects ABS to be available for the local Kwid towards the second half of 2019. HONEYBEE Preschool and Paradize Daycare was on a field trip through town with our local police officers and traffic officers. At the police station they learned about the cells and why you would end up in one. The traffic officers taught the children all about road safety and the safe way to cross the street. Danny Cat assisted the children through town, they walked from Spar-o-Rama to the high school. These two schools wants to give a big thanks to all the police officers and the traffic officers who assisted the children on their field trip.
