Twee bejaarde vriendinne in PLAASAANVAL aangerand TWEE bejaarde vriendinne (beide 70) se planne om 'n Vrydagmiddag en aand te kuier is op 'n bose manier in die wiele gery. Hulle is ingewag om 13:00 by die plaashuis op Roossenekal deur twee mans en vir ure aangerand. Dis hul gewoonte om Vrydae saam inkopies te doen. Die een dame het aangeneem haar vriendin is doodgeslaan toe sy haar haar laaste asem glo hoor uitblaas. Die verdagtes het haar in 'n mat toegedraai in haar eie VW Polo ingelaai. Die dame wat in die huis aangehou is, is verder geslaan, die verdagtes het bo-op haar gesit en haar gewurg. Die verdagtes het toe begin geld eis. Hulle is onder meer met ‘n sambok geslaan. Sy is saam met die tannie in die mat op die agtersitplek ingedruk nadat dit begin donker word het en kon deur die kussingsloop om
haar kop sien hulle ry in die Lydenburgrigting. Die tannie in die mat is uit die kar gegooi en die ander dame 'n entjie verder. Nadat sy genoeg krag gehad om tot by die pad terug te klim het 'n trok gestop en die polisie is gebel. 'n Soektog is van stapel gestuur om die VW Polo, wat aan die dame behoort het en die verdagtes op te spoor. . Na ’n oor-en-weer skietery is die een verdagte Saterdagoggend omstreeks 02:00 doodgeskiet tydens 'n jaagtog in Lydenburg. Die ander verdagte het in die rigting van Gustav Kliengbiel ontsnap en die polisie het vroeër die week nog na hom gesoek. Die tannie in die mat is teen Saterdagoggend 10:00 gevind na 'n grootskaalse soektog deur die SAPD, gemeenskap, Rapid Response, boere, vrywilligers en 'n groot aantal samaritane. Sy is na Midmed met 'n
helikopter vervoer. Die verdagtes het ook twee ander vroue in Lydenburg opgetel wat deur die polisie ondervra is. Die saak word nog ondersoek. For example, don't ask "Are you ready for bed?" when it's bedtime. Instead say, "It's time for you to go to bed" as a direction not a request. Get the child's attention, give the direction, and reinforce compliance. Whenever possible, given a choice between two acceptable options but your child should know when he has a choice and when he has NO option. State expectations clearly. "Straighten up" leaves room for debate. Say what you mean! NEVER GIVE A DIRECTION UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO ENFORCE IT: Reserve directions for important situations where you are prepared to follow through. If you don't feel like getting up to check, don't direct them to put away their toys. When you are concerned about consistency, ask yourself exactly what message you want to convey – that it is okay to leave the toys out or it's okay not to listen to your directions. Mean what you say! FOCUS ON ONE OR TWO BEHAVIOURS & BE CONSISTENT: Pick one or two behaviours to work on and respond consistently. This way your child will learn what to expect and will in turn behave more consistently. Try to discuss specific behaviours with your spouse and agree on specific responses/consequences. Consensus improves consistency. Writing it down is helpful. Try to have others provide the same structure. This increases rate of learning, there is less testing behaviour and it decreases the likelihood that the new skill will be person specific. pick your battles to win the war! UNDERSTAND THE LIMITATIONS OF PUNISHMENT: Punishment procedures, such as time-out, only interrupt behaviour but do not teach an alternative behaviour. If punishment procedure is used, be sure to deliver the punishment in a matter-of-fact manner. Deliver it immediately and every time the behaviour occurs. An effective punishment entails a warning and has a set beginning and end. Reinforce incompatible behaviours and positive alternative behaviours. In a pinch, ask the child what the punishment should be. teach them what to do as well as what not to do! WHEN the Nissan Terra officially went on sale in China back in April 2018, it was powered by a petrol engine and featured five seats. In May, the Japanese automaker confirmed that the body-on-frame SUV would also be built (for South East Asia, at least) with a 2,5-litre turbodiesel engine and seven seats. Now, with the model’s launch in Thailand (incidentally, this is where it is also being built, with a production capacity of 370 000 units a year), Nissan has confirmed that the Terra will be offered with the 2,3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine from the Navara bakkie, mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. As in the Navara (and, of course, the Mercedes-Benz X250d), this four-cylinder oil-burner makes 140 kW and 450 N.m. It can be specified in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with a ground clearance of 225 mm. The Nissan Terra has been conceived to take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X, and can be considered the spiritual successor to the Pathfinder. Take note that the Terra has yet to be officially confirmed for South Africa, although in February, Nissan SA told CARmag.co.za that it was “working closely” with its parent company to “develop a vehicle that is suitable to the sub-Saharan market”. If the Terra does hit local shores, expect it to be powered by this 2,3-litre diesel engine. carmag.co.za
How about an Aston for R 51 Mil ion?
ASTON Martin has announced that it will produce a series of 25 DB5 ‘Goldfinger’ continuation editions in a collaboration with EON Productions, the firm that produces the James Bond films. Aston Martin Works will team up with EON Productions to build the special vehicles (finished in Silver Birch paint), each based on Bond’s legendary car from 1964. The Gaydon-based brand promises they will be “authentic reproductions” of the DB5 seen on
screen, with some “sympathetic modifications to ensure the highest levels of build quality and reliability”. This will include functioning gadgets, such as revolving numberplates, that were made famous in Goldfinger. The gadgets will be co-developed with Chris Corbould, the special effects supervisor from the James Bond films. One car will go to EON, one to Aston Martin and another auctioned for charity, with the other 23 offered for sale for £2,75-million (that’s a little over R51-million!) plus taxes. Deliveries to customers are expected to kick off in 2020, but prospective buyers should note that the vehicles are not road legal. After its appearance in Goldfinger, the DB5 featured in a further six James Bond movies: Thunderball (1965), GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Casino Royale (2006), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015). “The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car

FOLLOWING on our story last week about the luxury Unimog based camper, here is another (Ford based) one! If you have the desire to go camping pretty much anywhere in the world, then EarthRoamer has put together a very capable (and luxurious) vehicle that may well suit your needs. Based on the heavy-duty Ford F750, the EarthRoamer features a few off-roading improvements and rather luxurious living quarters. The chassis of the EarthRoamer XV-HD retains some of the Ford’s standard components which, on paper, should be rugged enough for roaming much of the planet, but the rear air suspension arrangement gains Fox shocks and a hydraulic levelling function. To lend it more traction, 46-inch Michelin XZL rubber has been fitted to the wheels. Other interesting equipment includes a Warn Industries winch and a full LED lighting system by Baja Designs. In addition, 2 100 watts worth of solar panels have been fitted to the roof alongside a 20 000 watt lithium-ion battery pack and a 946-litre fresh water storage tank. For peace of mind out in the wild, a 435-litre diesel fuel tank is fitted as well. For us South Africans, this would cost around R6 300 to fill. Powering the XV-HD through its adventures is a 6,7-litre V8 Powerstroke turbodiesel good for 331 kW and 1 268 N.m of torque. This power is sent through to all four wheels through a six-speed Ford Torqshift automatic transmission. The highlight of the EarthRoamer XV-HD, however, is the luxurious custom cabin, which is large enough to accommodate six people. Inside, you’ll find a full bathroom with separate shower, washer and dryer; full kitchen with premium appliances; infloor heating; and a Bose Surround Sound system.

If you’re interested in one of these, you’re going to have to fork out around $1,5-million (that’s about R22million) with an initial $375 000 (R5,5-million) deposit. THE latest data from WesBank shows that the average monthly cost of motoring in South Africa has increased by approximately R940 or 14 percent in the past year, and by some 31 percent since 2013. According to WesBank’s figures, the current average monthly cost of motoring comes in at R7 650,14, taking into account vehicle instalments and fuel spend (which make up 80 percent of the figure), as well as insurance premiums and general running costs (or maintenance). Take note, though, that the sample vehicle price is based on an average entry-level car that travels approximately 2 500 km per month. The news comes despite “favourable vehicle price inflation” and interest rates remaining at what WesBank describes as “low levels”. Of course, the rising cost of fuel and an increase in VAT from 14 percent to 15 percent were big drivers in the hike in overall costs. “The past year has been a rollercoaster ride with drastic fuel price fluctuations making it difficult for consumers to keep track of monthly budgets,” said Ghana Msibi, executive head of sales and marketing at WesBank. “As a rule, we generally advise motorists to allow some breathing room in their budgets to help absorb these changing costs.” WesBank’s data also indicates that the change in vehicle price inflation for new vehicles has had a favourable effect on purchase prices. In July 2018, WesBank’s average new vehicle financed deal was only 1,43 percent higher than the same time last year at R307 445, while the average used vehicle finance deal was 6,9 percent higher than that of last year at R216 309. “International oil prices and local exchange rates continue to play a direct role in the monthly budgets for motorists, in both fuel and vehicle prices. Although manufacturers are offering attractive marketing incentives to lure customers into dealerships, consumers still have to spend more on vehicles, fuel, insurance and maintenance than ever before,” added Msibi. carmag.co.za

Jy kan ook dahlias, begonias en gloxinias plant. Usambaraviooltjies kan nou voortgeplant word deur die wortels stukkend te breek en die stukkies te plant. Boslelies en bosplakkies is weer skaduliewend en kan onder skaduryke bome geplant word. Somerbolle word ook nou geplant. Swaardlelies, tierlelies, amarillis en veelkleurige varkore is beskikbaar. Hou jou oë oop vir pers, oranje en rooi varkore. Laventel is een van die heel belangrikste kruidagtige plante. Dit is nie net 'n bekende krui vir medisinale, kosmetiese en kulinêre gebruik nie, maar 'n uiters gewilde ornamentele tuinstruik. In jou groentetuin: Onthou dat groente, net soos mense, baie lief vir sonskyn is. Plant gerus nou alles vir 'n heerlike slaai: Tamaties, komkommers, blaarslaai, spruite en radyse. Jy kan ook nou spinasie, beet, eiervrug, brandrissie, kool en preie plant. Brandrissies maak pragtige potplante. Jy kan ook kersietamaties in 'n pot plant, asook ertjies en boontjies. Groente en vrugte wat goed in groter spasies groei is murgpampoentjies, komkommers, aartappels en waatlemoene. Hoe meer tyd jy in jou tuin spandeer, hoe beter gaan jou plante groei. Baie mense, soos Prins Charles van Engeland, kry jy die beste resultate wanneer jy met jou plante praat. Geniet jou lentetuin, en voor jy jou oë uitvee het jy 'n lushof van blomme en struike, en kraakvars groente om aan te smul .
