60 people arrested in Limpopo for various crimes 100% slaagsyfer
POLICE in Limpopo have arrested more than 60 people for their alleged involvement in various crimes around the province. The suspects were arrested at Makhado, Mankweng, Thohoyandou, Polokwane, Tzaneen and Burgersfort. Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says they've also recovered firearms, ammunition, drugs, suspected stolen cell phones and laptops. “The South African Police Services in Limpopo continued to work tirelessly during this festive season period to implement practical measures to ensure a safer environment for all the citizens of this province. This has led to the apprehending of more than 60 suspects for serious crimes in a number of areas. All the arrested suspects will appear before the magistrate courts throughout the province.” Two suspected robbers were arrested at a hitch-hiking spot in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo. Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspects pointed a firearm at three off-duty police officers. The officers responded quickly and managed to arrest the suspects who tried to flee. Ngoepe says they also recovered an unlicensed firearm.
“The Provincial General of the South African Police Services in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba hailed the three of its off duty members for arresting the suspect who had pointed a firearm at them. One pistol was recovered abandoned in the nearby bushes. The arrested suspects will appear before the court on charges of attempted armed robbery and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.” Supplied by SAPS

Limpopo mayors implicated LIMPOPO premier Stan Mathabatha is expected to announce far reaching decisions on the municipal mayors and officials implicated in the VBS Bank looting and collapse. He's expected to release a forensic report instituted by the provincial Treasury department. It will follow that of the Reserve Bank's Grand Heist report compiled by Advocate Terry Motau. The Grand Heist report has implicated two senior ANC officials – Treasurer Danny Msiza and deputy chairperson and Vhembe district executive mayor Florence Radzilani. Ten municipalities have invested R1,2 billion in the liquidated VBS mutual bank. More than R1,2 billion meant for service delivery in communities has gone down the drain. The public funds were invested in the liquidated VBS by some municipalities in the province. The municipalities include the newly formed Collins Chabane in Malamuele, Fetakgomo-Tubatse in Burgersfort, Vhembe district, Giyani, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Makhuduthamaga, Makhado, Polokwane, Ephraim Mogale. Some municipal councils have started removing the officials implicated in the saga. The provincial government then instituted its forensic investigations against the
municipalities. Premier Stan Mathabatha has hinted that some leaders are going to be removed from their positions. He said this while addressing the ANC lists conference over the weekend. Mathabatha said that the leaders should not defy orders to remove them from their positions as the ANC has the powers to place and remove them. “Remember if the ANC deploys it also has a right to redeploy. These branches which are gathered here have also given the power to the provincial executive committee to recall anyone who's deployed through this process. We don't want to hear stories of people wanting to defy the ANC decision. No one should think of herself or himself as bigger than the other members of the African National Congress.” The implicated senior ANC leaders in the province – Treasurer Danny Msiza and deputy chairperson and Vhembe district executive mayor – Florence Radzilani – were stopped from attending the provincial lists conference. This after the ANC National Working Committee recommended that all leaders implicated in the VBS scandal must step aside from their positions. In the North West, four municipal mayors implicated in the VBS saga have been removed from their positions last week.

Hier sit ek nou in Januarie hoog en droog; net die "memories" van die "big days" wat my soog... Ek vroetel in my beursie om 'n noot uit te haal, maar my "pay" is al op met die "bonus" en al... By die ATM vat ek 'n laaste kans, maar dit deel my mee, "Insufficient funds"... Soos 'n wafferse rykman alles spandeer en nou dra my "laaitie" se "moneybox" my deur... In Desember so spoggerig, my stap skoon skuins; ek "shopping" met 'n "smile" en sê, "Keep the change"... Woolworths en Pick 'n Pay was alte gewild, nou koop ek weer by die huiswinkel opskuld... Met Edgars en Truworths was ek net behep, nou "lay buy" ek "Easter" se klere by Pep... Die "flatscreen" en "deepfridge" kan ek nie meer betaal; Russells sal dit binnekort weer kom haal... Van "Simba" en "Messaris" met "different dips", is ek nou weer terug by my "five-bob chips"... Ek mis Desember waar ek aan my "Magnum" smul, maar gedwee moet ek met my bompie "chill"... By Goudini baljaar, "so nice and so cool"; nou sit ek hier beknop in 'n óú opblaas-"pool"... My tafel was oorlaai, daar was "joy and fun", maar my kragboks wys nou weer "zero-point-one"... Waar ek kwylend na Spur se "spare ribs" verlang, moet rooiworsies en eiers dít nou vervang... Vir "breakfast, lunch, supper" was dit "t-bone steak", nou moet ek hoendernekkies se kant toe kyk... In Januarie sonder "airtime" op my "phone"; geen "data", geen whatsapp en ek soek nou 'n "loan"... My "Desember-vriende" wil ook nie meer bel en my DStv se dae is getel... Die "voggies" het gevloei en die "music" geklop, nou word my dors geles met "drink o' pop"... My landery is droog en my skure leeg; aan Desember se "empties" moet ek nou teug... Ek dink aan Desember se gedans en gefluit, maar Januarie slaan my so seer met spyt... Ek besef alte goed wat het my oorgekom, maar volgende Desember is ek wéér so dom... EN so strompel ons die nuwe jaar nugter en regop, maar al klaar moeg, binne. Ons wens graag ons lesers, vrinne en vyande ’n erg voorspoedige 2019 toe. Mag julle oorrompel word deur ongekende gesondheid, voorspoed, rykdom, vrede en elke mooi ding. Mag julle werk / besigheid / aftrede, gedy en mag julle ’n positiewe bydrae tot ons gemeenskap en ons dorp lewer. Raak betrokke by die dieresorg mense, die sakekamer, BNI, die
bejaardesorg, die GPF, Wenakker en al die plekke wat die Here se werk doen. Die ou jaar was relatief stil, met minder vuurwerke as voorheen. Daar was wel egter dié paar verstandelik ingedoendes wat nog nie die boodskap gekry het dat vuurwerke “uncool” is nie. Julle is agter. Mense spot met julle en lag agteraf vir julle. Kom by! Danksy mense soos Deon Broekman van N3 Rapid Response en sy span, die plaaslike verkeersmense en Polisie, verneem ek dat ons plaaslike padsterftes hierdie jaar minder was. Dit is mooi. Die dae voor tegnologie en wifi, is dit hoe ons op vakansie gegaan het. Net ’n tikkie uit toeka-se-dae van ons. Badfontein paaie goed vorder en by die dag beter word. Dieselfde kan egter nie van ons eens pragtige dorp gesê word nie. Die strate is pateties sleg. Die dorp gaan gebuk aan ’n ongekende aantal insidente waar die krag af was. Ons is dankbaar vir die mense wat herstelwerk doen, maar die netwerk moet professioneel opgegradeer word. Dit is tyd. Koebaai aan almal wat na elders verhuis het en welkom aan nuwe intrekkers en besighede. Baie geluk aan almal by die Hoërskool (en by die ander skole) met julle puik uitslae vir 2018. Doen so voort. Ek het geen nuwejaarsvoornemens nie. Ek beskou sulke voornemens as fopnuus! Vergeet van maer word. Eet meer en drink minder. Dit klink na ’n plan! Loop en trap mooi!

Beste foto’s LEDE van die Longtom Fotografieklub het vir Desember mooi fotos ingeskryf gedurende hulle vergadering. In die Set Subject afdeling het Heather Aspeling met haar pragtige kos (Dark mood food) foto gewen. Die foto is geneem met 'n Nikon D5600, F16, ISO 100, 35mm lens. In die Ope afdeling het Vera-Lee Maritz gewen met haar mooi geelvink met 'n Canon EOS 600D, F8, ISO 800. Daar is hierdie maand besluit om monochrome (Swart & Wit) fotos ook as 'n aparte afdeling te beoordeel. Die wenner in die monochrome afdeling is Marlize Jacobs met haar baie besonderse sandduin. In 1967 het die beroemde Baja 1000 wedren in Mexico begin, waar deelnemers “flat out” vir tot 19 ure ’n afstand van 1 000 myl aflê. In 1977 het Fransman Thierry Sabine in die woestyne van Noord Afrika verdwaal en besluit om die Parys na Dakar wedren in Noord Afrika ’n jaar later in 1978 te begin. Vandag word die “Dakar” deur 4 miljoen toeskouers in Suid Amerika in drie lande direk langs die roetes gevolg en dit word ook deur 1 biljoen toeskouers op TV gevolg. Byna 400 voertuie wat insluit motorfietse, vierwiel motorfietse of “quads”, spesiaal geboude motors en vragmotors neem deel. Elke voertuig (behalwe vir die private individue) word gerugsteun deur bykans 20 mense per span, wat drywers, navigators, werktuigkundiges en dokters insluit. In die 40 jaar van die wedren het 64 deelnemers en toeskouers hulle lewe in ongelukke verloor. Vanjaar se wedren het in Lima Peru begin en is tans aan die gang. Die Suid Afrikaanse betrokkenheid strek oor drie doelgeboude Toyota Hilux bakkies en spanne wat deelneem, asook verskeie Suid Afrikaans geboude Toyota bakkies vir ander lande. OPEL South Africa has outlined its local plans for 2019, confirming that a handful of new derivatives (including the Corsa GSi) will touch down over the course of the year, while certain ranges will benefit from specification updates, too. As we’ve already reported, the three-door Corsa GSi is scheduled to arrive in April 2019. While it will share its 110 kW 1,4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with that of the Corsa Sport already at the top of the local line-up, the GSi warm hatch will bring an OPC-developed chassis and braking system plus Recaro seats. Of course, it will serve as something of a swansong for the badge, since the next generation of the Corsa hatchback is scheduled to be revealed soon. A Corsa 120Y Special Edition is also on the cards for South Africa, conceived to celebrate the German firm’s 120th birthday. Based on the Corsa Enjoy derivative, this special edition will arrive in March 2019 featuring “many extra styling and specification features”. These are expected to include front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, added chrome-effect exterior trim, an Opel-branded door sill plate, new jet black cloth trim and velour mats complete with “120 Years” lettering. And the Astra? Well, the C-segment hatchback range will grow with the arrival of an automatic 1,6T Sport model in March 2019. The newcomer will feature an “OPC-Line” exterior styling pack as well as alloy pedals, a sport mode switch and a leather steering wheel. The rest of the Astra range, meanwhile, is set to gain added spec. The Astra 1,0T, for instance, will benefit from the brand’s IntelliLink system, while 1,4T Enjoy derivatives will gain keyless entry, the socalled advanced park-assist system, a rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, an electronic parking brake and blind-spot detection. A diesel-powered Enjoy model will join the Crossland X range in April 2019, drawing 68 kW from its 1,6-litre oil-burner and employing a five-speed manual gearbox. And the Grandland X Enjoy 1,6T AT will in March 2019 upgrade from 17- to 18-inch alloys as well as gain front foglamps, rear privacy glass and roof rails. A new optional package for the latter will also be offered, bringing a panoramic sunroof, the SatNav 900 IntelliLink infotainment system and heated leather seats. May 2019 will see the introduction of the Combo 1,6TD Panel Van, which will be offered in short-wheelbase form and run on 15-inch steel wheels. It will feature a payload of 600 kg and ship standard with a sliding door, a partition wall, manual air-conditioning, a four-speaker audio system and dual front airbags. While the Combo will be available on pre-order from January 2019, the Vivaro is scheduled to arrive only in November 2019. carmag.co.za

THE world has moved on to a new Mercedes-AMG G63, but it seems the folks over at Brabus aren’t quite ready to forget the previous version. Yes, the madcap Brabus 700 4×4² Final Edition you see here is based on the old GClass. And what a farewell to that model it is. Just ten examples will be built, each boasting portal axles (from the G500 4×4²) and adjustable suspension, resulting in a whopping 600 mm of ground clearance and what Brabus terms “excellent” front and rear axle articulation. Of course, while the new G63 employs a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8, this model is powered by the old 5,5-litre of the same configuration. But thanks to some Brabus fettling (the firm also provides a power upgrade for the new W463-generation model), the V8 now makes 515 kW and torque to 960 Nm, considerably more than the new model’s 430 kW and 850 Nm. The result is a sprint to 100 km/h in a claimed 5,0 seconds. Note that top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h largely thanks to the hefty Pirelli Scorpion ATR off-road tyres (325/55 R22) wrapped around the 9,5 J x 22 wheels. The Brabus B63S-700 performance upgrade includes the fitment of a pair of bigger turbochargers (along with a larger compressor unit), gold heat reflection sheathing for the intake and boost pipes, and high-performance metal catalysts with 75 mm downpipes. As an option, the vehicle can be ordered with a stainless sport exhaust. Brabus has also handed the Final Edition massive carbon fender flares and a (front) roof spoiler fashioned from the same material (and kitted out with extra LED daytime running lights). Inside, this monster Geländewagen is fitted with two-tone black/light brown leather upholstery, although the tuner says it can be specified to the owner’s “personal preferences in every detail”. So, the price? Well, the Brabus 700 4×4² Final Edition will start at €209 000 (that’s about R3,35-million) before VAT. carmag.co.za

Gophers Golf closed the 2018 season with its year end game played at the scenic Pilgrims Rest Golf Course and its award function held afterwards at The Vine Restaurant in town with thanks to Danie Brummer and Johnnie Reinders for the donation and preparation of the sheep braai.

The days competition was won by Johan Viljoen with runners up Willie Lotz and Nadia Venter. Nearest to the pin was won by Marga Kirton on the short hole. The new season is planned for early February 2019. The annual Gophers League Competition awards points on a sliding scale based on the individuals IPS results of each game played. Bonus points are also awarded for the number of games played in the year and for
being one of the prize winners. The “Player of the Year” trophy is awarded to the male and female player who obtained the highest accumulated score at year end. This year the trophies went to Pieter Van Vuuren and Marga Kirton. Well done to them. The charity award was also presented to Joshua Vermaak, who has extremely poor eyesight affecting his daily functioning and ability to learn. His eyes are tested by an ophthalmologist in Nelspruit for an accurate adjustment to the specification for the annual replacement of high magnification lenses according to his current level of sight. This process continues until he, at a later stage may need to undergo a lens operation. The payment of current costs for the treatment is
coordinated via the school social worker Chrisan van Buuren. The Committee is pleased to confirm an increase of funds collected this year, which stands at R15 000. We thank all the golf courses where our games were hosted and all the league players, as portion of their green fees are used to raise funds.
