Skinder ons ?

DIE mensdom is inherent goed, of is hy boos? Wanneer ek my pessimistiese kepsie opsit, wil ek nogal dink dit is laasgenoemde.

Vat nou skinder. Ons het meesters geword in die kuns van skinder. Of skinder sonder om regtig te skinder. Wie, ons? Nooit. Maar ons sien hierdie of daardie persoon werk nie meer op ’n plek nie. Maar ons wil nie skinder nie.

VF+ maan die DA kiesers Mnr. André Marais, Lydenburg skryf: N.a.v. Dawe Boonzaaier se artikel in Rapport van 18 Augustus: “So verloor DA sy kiesers”, die volgende kommentaar. Die DA leiers oor Afrikaners sedert 2013 het reeds vele kiesers vervreem.

Die DA moet besef dat geen party in ’n diverse land soos die RSA iets vir almal kan wees nie. Die behoeftes van Afrikaanssprekendes is ver verwyder van die behoeftes van die meerderheid.

Indien die DA dink hy kan met klein wysings aan sy beleid die verlore steun van die Afrikaners terugwen slaan hy die bal mis. Die DA se aanvallende uitsprake soos teen ‘white privilege” en soos die onskuldige onderwyser van Sweizer Reineke ens, het diep kwetsende haat. Nog vele ander kwetsende uitsprake kan genoem word. My advies aan die DA is, gaan voluit om almal se stemme te werf. Die VF Plus is ook nie die vyand van die DA nie, soos sommige DA-lede wil voorgee nie, maar sal ’n baie betroubare koalisievennoot wees om Suid-Afrika ’n suksesvolle land te maak. So samewerking kan die RSA weer op die wenpad plaas.

Nou wonder ons maar net, is die persoon dalk “gefire” Ons skinder mos nie. Ons wonder net hardop teenoor ’n ander persoon. En so groei die storie wat met “wonder” begin het. Nou “vermoed” die volgende verteller hy of sy is in die pad gesteek. En die volgende verteller vra: “Het jy gehoor...”

Die uiteinde is skande, terwyl die arme onderwerp van die storie in werklikheid ’n wonderlike werksaanbod van elders ontvang het. Dieselfde gaan met selfdood.

Het jy gehoor hy het (en dan word

die grusame besonderhede gegee) selfmoord gepleeg omdat (en hier kom die vermoedens dan weer in). Of iemand gee gou vir sy vriend (met dié se medewete) se vrou ’n geleentheid haarkapper toe, want hy ry daar verby. Iemand sien die vrou in die weldoener se motor en “wonder” dadelik of hulle ’n buite-egtelike verhouding het. En voor jy kan sê Koos Kombuis, dan is dit so.

Die lek van vertroulike en ongesubstansieerde informasie uit ’n veiligheidsgroep of ’n kerkraad of ’n klub, of ’n tehuis vir bejaardes is dieselfde ding. Dit begin onskuldig met die woordjies “Ek wonder?” Dit is skinder. Dit is verkeerd. Dit is lelik. So in plaas van ondersteun breek ons af.

This is the TJ Cruiser REMEMBER the quirky Toyota TJ Cruiser concept revealed back in 2017?

Well, a fresh rumour out of Japan suggests the boxy vehicle is about to be put into production.

According to Japanese publication Best Car, the production model may well make its debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show in October, before pre-order sales start in its domestic market as early as December.

Interestingly, the TJ Cruiser, which Toyota earlier described as part cargo van and part SUV, is set to ride on the firm’s ubiquitous TNGA platform (rather than a ladder-frame arrangement, like the FJ Cruiser).

For the record, concept measured in at 4 300 mm long, 1 775 mm wide and 1 620 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2 750 mm. That, as Best Car points out, interestingly makes it shorter nose to tail than a C-HR but with more length between its axles.

According to the publication’s source, the production model’s exterior design will largely mirror that of the concept, although it’s not yet clear how many seats it will use (the concept featured just four pews) nor which powerplants are set to be offered (the concept employed a 2,0-litre petrol hybrid set-up). carmag.co.za

Consider buying a classic Saab SAAB stood for “Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget”, which means Swedish Aircraft Corporation Limited in the Scandinavian language. Founded in 1937, its parent company specialised in aerospace and defence hardware. Saab joined Scania Trucks in 1968 and went through many difficulties under GM ownership in the early 1990s. The company eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2011 (in South Africa, Scania is still active with a wide range of commercial vehicles).

With homework, you shouldn’t be too worried about parts availability on the 9-3, and used prices are low, making it a calculated risk.

The 9-3 was based on the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra but had many improvements to its crash safety and suspension. Driving comfort was excellent, from the seating to instrumentation and trim. Despite limited sales, the convertible was particularly popular and most of the cars available on Gumtree are drop-tops. The sedan’s boot is quite large at 300 litres and the spacious rear seats fold to allow 1 056 litres.

While previous models used a 2,3-litre engine, this version scaled down to a GM Ecotec 2,0-litre with mild turbocharging to produce between 110 and 155 kW, and 240 to 300 N.m of torque, depending on the model. Our test unit delivered 129 kW using a Garret turbo set at 0,7-bar boost. The engine was mounted transverse, driving the front wheels, and had d-o-h-c. Fortunately, the 16 valves were driven by a camchain. There was a choice of a five-speed manual or a five-speed auto.

The Convertible is likely to retain a higher value but you may prefer the sedan for security reasons. Before purchase, check that everything works, especially the powered hood if it’s a drop-top.

With parts availability the biggest reason for the low prices of 9-3s, we had a look at possibilities. One that stood out was Masterparts, which will source many components but note this excludes body panels. The option is always there to use panel beaters to repair bodywork. Breakers yards can be contacted for spares from cars that have been written off.

A search for windscreens and taillamp lenses resulted in some interesting offerings at reasonable prices from Australia. Of course, shipping may double the price, but it could cost much less than local producers charge for some of our newer vehicles.

Workshop manuals are available from various suppliers. Many parts are on offer, both new and used, on eBay, including replacement woodgrain dash panels, bumpers and grilles. Lastly, there is no shortage of Saab enthusiasts worldwide, so make use of their expertise for advice and locating parts.

While sales numbers locally were low, making the car somewhat rare, there are always a few for sale, mostly in a good state of repair. The prices vary considerably but takers are few so we would encourage haggling.

After such a colourful history, it would be a pity if there was no future. Initially, the Swedish consortium NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden) had joined forces with a large Chinese manufacturer to produce electric vehicles under the Saab name. It lost the rights to use the name and now builds the vehicles – based on the 9-3 – under the nomenclature NEVS. Now this is a Ford Focus! Suzuki SL 6 possible for SA REMEMBER the rumoured high-performance Ford Focus RS500 (which, sadly, never reached production)? Well, the folks at UKbased firm Mountune have revealed their RS-based hyper hatch, dubbed the m520.

For the record, the standard model's 2,3-litre EcoBoost mill, churning out 257 kW and 440 N.m of torque (the latter from a low 1 600 r/min.), does not lack in power.

But the tuner thought the hot hatch could do with some extra grunt and tweaked the turbocharged four-pot to produce a whopping 382 kW and 700 N.m of torque, sent to all four corners via a six-speed manual gearbox.

According to the Brentwood-based firm, the increase in output has been achieved by fitting an in-house-configured BorgWarner EFR7163 turbocharger, recalibrating the ECU, adding an uprated fuel pump and fitting revised camshafts and valve train.

For those wanting something tamer, Mountune offers the m450 package, which ups engine output to a still significant 331 kW and 580 N.m. This kit includes upgrades such as a “specifically engineered” BorgWarner turbocharger and a high-flow downpipe.

How much does it cost to turn your Focus RS into a hyper hatch? The full-blown m520 conversion will set you back £5 974,99 (around R110 000), while the m450 will cost around half of that at £2 950,00 (about R55 000). You will, however, need to supply the firm with the RSbadged hot hatch... carmag.co.za

MARUTI Suzuki in India has unveiled its new XL6 and Suzuki Auto South Africa says it is "studying" the feasibility of introducing the fresh-faced six-seater locally.

Effectively based on the second-generation Ertiga MPV but with crossoverinspired styling (and one fewer seat), the new Suzuki XL6 is powered by the Japanese firm’s familiar K15 petrol engine.

In India, this naturally aspirated 1,5-litre unit offers 77 kW and 138 N.m (the same outputs produced in the aforementioned Ertiga), and can be mated with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission.

The XL6 measures 4 445 mm long (which interestingly makes it some 50 mm lengthier than the Ertiga), 1 775 mm wide and 1 700 mm tall, while its wheelbase comes in at 2 740 mm (the same distance between the Ertiga's axles).

The second row of seats comprises a pair of captain’s chairs, while the third row (complete with a reclining function) accommodates three passengers. Suzuki says the XL6 boasts ventilated cup holders, an overhead console, accessory sockets for each row and rear air-conditioning vents.

With all seats in place, Suzuki claims a luggage space figure of 209 litre, while folding the second and third rows down apparently liberates 692 litres of utility room.

The Indian-spec XL6 features a seven-inch touchscreen arrangement as well as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Isofix child-seat anchors and rear parking sensors, with automatic variants furthermore gaining an electronic stability programme and a hill-hold function. carmag.co.za

Don't be overzealous when cutting your lawn.

A general rule of thumb for achieving optimal results from mowing, is to never cut off more than one third of the length of your lawn. Shearing a lawn too short results in the root systems becoming exposed. Shallow roots are unable to absorb sufficient amounts of water and nutrients, leaving your lawn susceptible to drought, as well at the mercy of weeds.

When should I apply lawn dressing?

In South African gardens, lawn dressing is initially applied in August and September as this is the beginning of the growing season. The application of lawn dressing is an ongoing process, and is typically conducted approximately every 12- 13 weeks.

Before you apply your lawn dressing, it's crucial that you aerate your soil. This will enable the nutrients in your lawn dressing to permeate the soil. The easiest way to go about this is via a spike roller or a garden fork. Your lawn is now ready to be fertilised. Tackle weeds and pests with the help of professionals. Unfortunately, a lush, verdant lawn is at the mercy of weeds and pests.

The most common pests found in lawns across South Africa are White Grub, Mole Crickets and Lawn Caterpillar – all of which can wreak havoc on a lawn in a short space of time. Kinkel in die spel met gholfdag

Tim Marobane en Austin Mashego is gereelde spelers wat altyd uitstekend vaar op die gholfbaan.

Die jong Mnr. J.L.Welgemoed wenner BNI en Pam Golding het van die Bosbok-trekking Saterdag ’n gholfdag onder andere ten bate van Rusoord op Lydenburg gehou. Verteenwoordigers van BNI, Pam Golding en Rusoord het elke putjie beman en spelers met ’n kinkel in die spel gekonfronteer. Op een putjie moes jy met ’n hokkiestok set.

Op ’n ander met ’n gebuigde setstok, en op ander moes jy gym oefeninge doen of baie sterk chilli eet. Die dag is goed deur besighede ondersteun met pryse en almal was wenners op die heerlike dag vol pret. Soos gewoonlik was Nico Cross van Columbus Blouster (Sanlam) die seremoniemeester en was die gholfklub se bestuurder Sybrand de Fortier oral om te verseker dat reëlings vlot verloop het.

Goeie pryse het ingesluit ’n induksiestoof, pragtige snyborde, ’n weeklange vakansie in Mosambiek, ’n Blesbok, ’n Advertensie by die Highlands Panorama Nuus, komberse vanaf Martins Begrafnisdienste en vele meer. Die lede van BNI, Pam Golding en Rusoord bedank graag die borge, Lydenburg Gholfklub, elke speler en vir Nico Cross en Pieter Pieterse vir ’n gholfdag vol pret.
