Support the Ronald McDonald House, Win a Classic Ride for Your Garage

written by Jon L. Brun

This could be your ticket to ride.

Buy one or more raffle tickets to support the Ronald McDonald House Central Valley of Madera, south of San Francisco, and you may win one of three classic sports cars –– a 2021 Corvette, a 1967 Corvette and a 1970 Chevelle SS

This year is the 28th that RMHCV has conducted collector car raffles. Each prize is a separate raffle. Donations start at $5 for a ticket, and the more you buy the better the deal: $10 for 5, $20 for 15, $30 for 22, $50 for 40, $100 for 100, $200 for 240 and $500 for 600. To enter, visit www.rmhc-car.com and insert code HIGHLINE for a special offer to receive double tickets with a $30-plus donation.

RMHCV provides a “home away from home” for families while their child is being treated in a local hospital, explains David Ashjian, director of promotions for RMHCV.

The house comprises 18 guest rooms. Each room is similar to a hotel room, with two queen-size beds, restroom/ shower and satellite TV. Guests share common areas such as kitchens, laundry rooms, playrooms and living room. Meals are often provided by local businesses, church groups, schools, clubs and other community organizations, he adds.

“On days meals aren’t provided, there are fully stocked pantries that our guest families have access to,” Ashjian says. He notes that families pay nothing to stay; some remain for just a few days, while others stay for weeks or even months, depending on the severity of their child’s illness or injury.

Liveried in classic Rally Red, the 1967 Corvette has its numbers-matching 427-cubic-inch V-8, numbers-matching Muncie 4-speed manual tranny and the date-correct 3.55 positraction rear end. The 390-horse block outputs 460 lb/ft of torque and does 5-second 0–60 runs.

Matching its interior, the convertible has a black top and comes with its original tank sticker, a matching auxiliary hardtop, side-mount chambered exhaust, power steering, power 4-wheel disc brakes, Chevy Rally Wheels and power windows.

The Arctic White-on-black 2021 Corvette convertible carries the 6.2-liter V-8, producing 495 horsepower and 470 lb/ft of torque, and does 2.9 0–60 sprints through the 8-speed dual clutch automatic. The Z51 Performance Package includes a limited slip differential, Brembo anti-lock brakes and a Z51 rear spoiler. Inside are GT2 bucket seats.

Cranberry Red on black, the Chevelle SS packs a 396 CI V8 big block with a Muncie M20 4 Speed Manual Transmission. The powerplant generates 350 horses and the car accelerates from 0-60 in 6 seconds. It also features a functional Cowl Induction hood, original dash and dash pad, tachometer, gauges, AM radio and sits on brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A Tires.

The entry deadline for the two Corvettes and the Chevelle is November 19. The winners will be selected on December 10.

“Because of the pandemic, we were forced to cancel many of our in-person fundraising events in 2020 and 2021,” Ashjian says. Support through our raffles helps ensure we can continue to provide a home away from home for families while they go through such a difficult time in their lives.”
