RM Sotheby’s Monterey Celebrates 25 Years August 17–20

RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction marks its silver anniversary August 17–20 at the Monterey Conference Center, 1 Portola Plaza, with 120-plus valuable and most soughtafter collectible cars from nearly every era including three stellar collections.

The 2022 auction begins Wednesday, August 17, when the cars preview, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. (all times PDT). On Thursday, August 18, the preview continues from 10 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. The auction begins at 5:30 p.m. and concludes that day when the final car on the day’s docket is run. On Friday, August 19, bidders may preview the cars from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., with the auction resuming at 5:30 p.m. The final preview is Saturday, August 20, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.; the auction continues at 5:30 p.m. and closes after the last car is offered.

The Oscar Davis Collection is one of the finest pre- and post-war European performance machinery ever assembled, explains Gord Duff, global head of auctions for Blenheim, Ontario-based RM Sotheby’s Auctions. These include a 1938 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS Teardrop Coupe by Figoni et Falaschi; a 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider by Scaglietti; a supercharged 1939 Type 57C Aravis Special Cabriolet by Gangloff; a 1938 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B Mille Miglia Berlinetta by Touring; and a 1952 Lancia Aurelia B53 Giardinetta by Viotti.

In addition, the ten-car Terence E. Adderley Collection includes a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Sport Sedan by Murphy and a 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Henley Roadster by Brewster, two of the era’s finest coachbuilders. And, Masterworks of Design comprises 46 one-off and limited-production motorcars offered from various private ownerships. These include a low-mileage 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster built for the King of Afghanistan by Sindelfingen and a one-of-one 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C “Tulipwood” Torpedo by Nieuport, commissioned by aperitif heir and gentleman racer André Dubonnet.

Other cars to be offered are three Ferraris: a 1955 410 Sport Spider by Scaglietti, a 1998 Ferrari F300 and a 1954 Ferrari 625 F1. Other premium offerings are a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster by Sindelfingen; a 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C “Tulipwood” Torpedo by NieuportAstra and a 1938 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS Teardrop Coupe by Figoni et Falaschi.

On Wednesday, August 17, Linkage Magazine will hold a seminar “History, Intellect, Passion – What Connects Collectors to Cars” from 3 to 4 p.m. Miles Collier, Steve Serio and Donald Osborne will review the Ferrari 410S and Lamborghini Reventón.

Admission to the auction is restricted to registered bidders, consignors and credentialed media. Bidder registration is $400, which includes an official auction catalog and admission for two to the preview and auction days. The public preview is $60 per person.
