De curând am observat că s-au întors rândunicile în oraș. Un prieten îmi povestea că la un moment dat și pescărușii dispăruseră. Ieri stăteam in bucătărie și priveam un grup de rândunele cum își învățau puii să zboare, aproape la fel cum și noi ne învățăm copiii să meargă. Dacă te gândești, pentru o pasăre zborul e inevitabil, mersul o opțiune, cum ar fi înotul pentru oameni. Dar v-ați întrebat vreodată dacă exista, sau care e pasarea căreia îi place să zboare?

Andrei: Spune-ne câteva lucruri despre tine. Cum ai început? Loreta: Cred că toate nebuniile pe care îmi vine să le fac (unele mai conceptuale, altele foarte abstracte) vin dintr-o joacă continuă. Am început cu un studiu destul de clasic pe care ți-l oferă școala (mă refer la tehnici și la modul de a vedea arta și compoziția, să zicem). Și am continuat cu experimentarea unor tehnici noi. Mi se pare foarte important să scot din minte cele mai interesante lucruri la care mă gandesc și să le las pe o hârtie sau pe orice îmi vine să desenez. În felul ăsta nu uit nimic.
Ce-ai făcut în ultima vreme? Lucrezi la vreun proiect? Da, lucrez de ceva timp la un proiect de scurt metraj de animație care se numește ”omul cu capul de sticlă și în el trăia un pește”. Un proiect care cel mai sigur va fi lansat la anul, datorită complexității realizării lui. Și de care eu sunt foarte bucuroasă că m-am apucat mai ales pentru faptul că mă pot juca și studia personajele mele în mișcare, ceea ce mi se pare foarte interesant.
Andrei: Tell us a bit about yourself: how did you start? Loreta: I think that most of the crazy stuff that I wind up doing (some more conceptual and others really abstract) come from my playful nature. My basis is pretty much classical, in terms of tehniques, or seeing and building the composition. From there I started experimenting with new tehniques, I find that is very important to put on paper the what I think about. So that I don’t forget anything.
What have you been up to recently: are you working on something? Yes, I am working for some time now on a projet, a short animation that is called “the man with a glass head in which lived a fish”. This will propably see the light of day sometime next year because of its complexity. I am very glad that I started this project as I can see, play with and study my characters in motion, I find this very interesting.

O zi din viața ta? O zi din viața mea depinde foarte mult de ce fel de zi e aia. Oricum vă povestesc una în care trebuie să merg la muncă. Mă trezesc alene, parcă nu m-aș duce azi să muncesc. În fine, reușesc să mă spăl pe față, îmi pup prietenul cu drag, gust ceva și o întind. Merg două stații pe jos sau iau autobuzul până la tramvai. De obicei iau autobuzul, în care găsesc o droaie de babe și moși, cărora îmi vine să le fac poze (nu de alta, dar nu mi-ar strica o colecție de portrete). În fine, nu am timp de așa ceva. Plănuiesc să schițez colecția asta de fețe ciudate. Ajung în stația de tramvai în 5 minute. Aici se adună lume mai pestriță care urcă buluc. Uneori mă simt deranjată de îmbulzeală, alteori mă lipesc de geamul tramvaiului și îmi țintesc privirea către traficul imens (și îmi vine să arăt cu degetul la fiecare mașină, să râd în hohote și să zic: haha, fraierilor!). Uneori ciulesc urechile la poveștile sau cântecele sugrumate ale unor cerșetori care se mai aud prin tramvai. Pe drum e un tunel subteran plin de lumini. E singurul care mi se pare cool pe tot acest traseu. Mda, azi poveștile auzite din tramvai nu au fost prea palpitante. Cobor în subteranul stației de metrou. Aici lucrurile stau altfel. Sunt scaunele alea care te obligă să te uiți față în față, la fața celuilalt și să faci buhuhuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Cobor și sunt fericită că m-am urcat pe scarile rulante. Plăcerea cea mai mare e că atunci când urci și te uiți automat în sus, ai vrea sa vezi cerul. Dar nu îl vezi
și atunci închizi ochii și iți imaginezi că urci ca o racheta în slow motion. Ies din metrou, ajung la lumina soarelui puternic, merg câteva minute pe jos până ajung la muncă, fac dreapta către o straduță plină cu case pitorești la care mă uit de fiecare dată și îmi trec cele mai ciudate povești prin minte. Mă opresc la o poartă mare de fier ornată cu împletituri foarte complicate, care e deschisă și care mă așteaptă să intru. O dată ce intru pe poartă încep să revin la realitate și să-mi dau seama că am ajuns la muncă. Lalalalala muncă, lalala muncă toată ziua. Mai stau de vorbă cu oameni în pauză în care lalala mai spunem câte-o glumă, râdem, ne mai distrăm. Lalala s-a terminat ziua de muncă. Ies pe poartă, cea cu grafica complicată și abia aștept să ajung acasă să desenez. Alerg repede spre casă, nu mă mai interesează poveștile din metrou, tramvai și autobuz. Alerg ca să nu-mi iasă din cap ce mi-am propus să trec pe hârtie în ziua aceea. Uneori mă iau cu gândurile, pe drum mă întâlnesc cu prietenul meu și apoi cu un alt prieten de al nostru care ne invită la o bere. Între timp îmi notez pe o foaie ce imi trecuse prin cap să scriu pe foaia goală care mă așteaptă acasă…

A day in the life of... A day in my life... it depends a lot on what kind of day that might be. Anyway I will let you in on a working day: “I barely get out of bed, I feel like not going to work today. Ah well, I manage to wash my face, kiss my boyfriend, grab a bite and hit the road. I walk two blocks or take the bus to the tram. I usually take the bus, where I find a bunch of old people that I would like to photograph (a collection of protraits could be good). No time for such a thing. I plan on sketching this collection of weird faces. I reach the tram station in about 5 minutes. There a lot more people are hurdling to make it on. Sometimes I feel annoyed, other times I just stare into traffic and in my mind I point my finger at the motionless cars, laugh and say to them: “You losers!” I also like to eavesdrop on stories or songs played by beggars. The tram passes at on point through tunnel filled with lights. It’s the single thing that I enjoy. No interesting stories today, so far. I go down to get on the subway. Here things are different.
There are those chairs that make you look at the person in front of you and go: buhuhuuuuuuuuuuuuu. I get off and I’m happy that I chose the escalators. It would be even better if I could look up and see the sky. But you don’t and instead you imagine yourself in a rocket going up in slow motion. I reach the Sun’s powerful light and walk a couple of minutes more till work. I turn right on a street of old and charming houses that inspire me. I stop in front of a large ornate wroughtiron gate. It’s open and awaits for me. Once I pass through, reality kicks in. Lalalalala work, lalala work all day. I sometimes stop and talk with people in my break when lalala we tell jokes, laugh, have fun. Lalala the working day is over. I step outside and can’t hardly wait to get home to draw some more. I run home, skipping all the stories this time. I run so that I don’t forget what I want to put in paper. Sometimes I get carried away and on the way I meet up with my boyfriend and another friend of ours and go for a beer. Meanwhile I use a napkin to lay my idea down.

Ce te inspiră? Animațiile lui Miyazaki mi se par geniale. Și mai sunt multe alte lucruri cu care intru în contact zi de zi. Dar cred că cel mai tare m-au inspirat evenimentele sau oamenii care îmi produc schimbări în personalitate și în gandire, de-a lungul timpului.
Cum vezi viitorul? Văd viitorul într-o tentă mai futuristă și mai ecologică prin tot ceea ce se inventează în materie de tehnologie. În materie de artă, o explozie de stiluri și de inovații colorate. Pălăria nu va mai fi rotundă, ci pătrată. Casele vor fi rotunde. O să putem călători cu tot cu casa precum o broască țestoasă care are elice.
Artiști favoriți? Sunt destul de mulți artiști care îmi plac. Dar pentru mine e foarte important modul în care s-a impus acel artist de-a lungul timpului. Takashi Murakami îmi place foarte mult. Cred că e un exemplu foarte bun pentru toată arta care se desfășoară pe net, pentru că multe lucrări de-ale lui sunt digitale, mixuri diverse, dar a reușit să le adune și să le expună în cadrul unei expoziții de artă contemporană imense. Ceea ce îmi spune că arta digitală trăiește foarte bine și într-un alt context, în afara mediului în care a fost creată. Și că poate fi gustată de un public destul de larg, chiar și de ceea ce pare mai degrabă o extensie a artei clasice, colecționarii de artă.
Muzică? Ce asculți? Îmi place muzica foarte mult. Ce îmi vine acum în minte sunt: Bat for lashes, The Killers, Moloko, Franz Ferdinand, Bjork, Kaiser Chiefs, Amy Winehouse, OIVAVOI, Edith Piaf, Yonderboi, Interpol, Jacques Brel, Kid Koala, Smoke City, Paganini Ce-ți place să faci în timpul liber? În timpul meu liber îmi place să fac lucruri cât mai relaxante, gen tenis, ieșit cu prietenii… chestii de-astea. Dar “there is not enough time” și atunci, când prind timp liber, încerc să mă adun și să desenez cât mai mult. Ce e important pentru tine? Mikey Mouse (lol) Cam toți cei din jur sunt importanți pentru mine.

What inspires you? Miyazaki animations, I find them genius. And many other daily things I get in contact with. But most of all I get inspired by events or people in my life that trigger changes in the way I think and shape my personality.
How do you see the future? I see it a bit more futuristic and ecological through the progress that it’s been made in tehnology. As for art, an explosion of styles and colorful inovations. The hat won’t be round no more, but square. Houses will be round. We will be able to travel along with our houses like a propeller turtle.
Any favourite artists? There are a lot of artists I like, but for me it’s more important the fashion in which that artist impose him or herself over a period of time. Takashi Murakami is one that I admire. I think he is a good example of the kind of art that the internet has to offer, because most of his works are digital, different mixes, still he managed to bring them all together in one huge contemporary art show. This proves to me that digital art is alive even in a different medium than that in which it was conceived. And that it can be enjoyed by a larger public, even by those that seem to be an extension of classic art, art collectors.
Do you like music? What’s your favourite? I love music. I’m thinking of: Bat for lashes, The Killers, Moloko, Franz Ferdinand, Bjork, Kaiser Chiefs, Amy Winehouse, OIVAVOI, Edith Piaf, Yonderboi, Interpol, Jacques Brel, Kid Koala, Smoke City, Paganini… What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time? In my spare time I like having relaxing activities, like tennis, hanging out with my friends... stuff like that. But there is not enough time and then, when I do get some time off, I try to get myself together and draw as much as I can.

Ce-ți dorești să mai realizezi? Sunt destul de multe lucruri pe care vreau să le realizez. Am spus doar o parte din ce aveam de spus în materie de artă, artă digitala, animație. Mi-ar placea la un moment dat să fac o expoziție personală foarte amplă în care să adun tot felul de lucrări, tot felul de mixuri din diverse forme de artă, mă gândesc chiar să am colaborări și pe muzică experimentală. Nu știu, e un subiect la care încă mă mai gândesc, mai lucrez… Mi-ar plăcea să colaborez la crearea unor filme și animații, am câteva idei curatoriale. Vom vedea dacă voi și realiza una dintre ele. Care este ultima carte pe care ai cumpărat-o/ citit-o? Martin Heidegger - Originea Operei de Artă Ce te-a atras cel mai mult către acest stile de viață/ muncă? Îmi place mult ceea ce fac și faptul că mă simt liberă, că pot să mă exprim fără să fiu constrânsă. Ceva în încheiere? Cheers.

Who is important to you? Mickey Mouse (lol) Everyone around me is important. What do you still want to accomplish? Quite a lot. I haven’t said all there is to say speaking of art, digital art, animation. At one point I would like to have a personal show, exhibiting all kinds of work, mixes of different disciplines, I am thinking about having a collaboration even on experimental music. I don’t know, it’s a subject I’m still thinking about, still working... I would like do collaborate on movies and animations, I also have a few curatorial ideas. We’ll see if I’ll make any of them come true. What is the last book you bought/read? Martin Heidegger - Originea Operei de Arta What do you like most about your work/way of life? Andrei: Spune-ne câteva lucruri despre tine. Cum ai început? Claudia: Întotdeauna mi-a plăcut să desenez, dar nu am avut curajul, nici sprijinul să pornesc în direcția asta, așa că am încercat o abordare mai pragmatică asupra vieții. În timpul primei facultăți am mers în Franța în cadrul unui program de schimb cultural. Fata cu care am stat era designer. Am început încet încet să o ajut și așa am învățat Illustrator și Photoshop, în franceză, desigur, iar la întoarcerea în țară am obținut primul loc de muncă ca graphic designer, legat de industria textilă. Asta se întampla acum 6 ani. Am lucrat în același loc aproape 5 ani; în perioada asta am semnat un contract full-time cu Adidas, dar am intrat și la Facultatea de Artă și Design. De atunci a trebuit să aleg între ele, așa că iată-mă. Acum câțiva ani am început să lucrez și ca freelancer. Pentru 3 ani a fost haos, mergeam la școală în Timișoara, trăiam în Arad, lucram full-time în Arad și apoi în Budapesta și peste toate mai aveam și proiecte ca freelancer. Ce ai făcut în ultima vreme? Lucrezi la ceva anume? M-am întors din Budapesta acum câteva luni pentru a-mi finaliza studiile, toate bune, iar până la toamnă mă gândesc încotro să merg. Oscilez între un job afară, full-time tot în design vestimantar/ industria textilă, sau să îmi dezvolt propria marcă aici și să trăiesc fericită până la adânci bătrâneți... Deja am început să cercetez domeniul pentru a putea veni cu un stil propriu pentru brand-ul meu, ce ar consta în tricouri și eșarfe printate. S-ar putea să urmez programul de Master în Desen Experimental și Tehnici de Imprimare. Devreme ce doresc să combin tehnicile tradiționale cu cele digitale. În mare asta fac acum, experimentez și încerc să dezvolt un stil curat, dar complex în același timp.

Andrei: Tell us a bit about yourself: how did you start? Claudia: I always liked drawing but never had courage or support to take this path, so I tried to have a pragmatic approach in life. During my first college, I went for a cultural exchange in France, where the girl I lived at was a designer. I started little by little helping her, learning Illustrator and Photoshop, in French of course, and, at my return, got my first job as a Graphic Designer, a job related to the apparel industry. That was 6 years ago. I kept the same job for almost 5 years, in this period got a full-time contract from Adidas but also entered The Faculty of Art and Design, and since I had to choose among them, here I am. A few years ago I also started freelancing. For 3 years I was quite crazy doing school in Timisoara, living in Arad, working fulltime in Arad then Budapest and also freelancing. What have you been up to recently: are you working on something? I returned from Budapest a couple of months ago to finalize my studies, all done, and until autumn, I am considering my options, I am oscillating among a full time job in the apparel industry outside the country or creating my own brand here and live happily ever after... I already started with making research in order to develop a unique style for my possible brand that would consist of graphic tees and printed scarves. For this, I might follow a Master degree in Experimental Drawing and Print Making since I want to combine digital with traditional techniques. Mainly, this is what I am doing, experimenting and trying to achieve a clean but complex style.
CLAUDIACIMPAN O zi din viața ta? Nu am tocmai un tipar după care să mă orientez, e liniște în ultimul timp, dar nu e rutină încă. Lucrez, mă joc, cam ce face orice om normal. Ce te inspiră? Arhitecții. Mă simt extrem de influențată de acești maniaci. Iubesc devotamentul lor față de munca pe care o depun și pasiunea cu care vorbesc despre ea. Am aceleași sentimente față de design și mi-ar place să ating și eu același nivel de încăpățânare și dedicație pe care îl au. Artiști favoriți? Sunt mulți, dar să numesc câțiva: Mario Hugo, James Jean, Josh Vanover, Sam Weber, iar mai aproape de casă, îmi place foarte mult munca lui Matei Apostolescu, care este constant și consistent. Cum te vezi în viitor? Spre norocul meu, nu îl pot vedea, nici prezice. Prefer să mă ocup de prezent pentru a dobândi un trecut. Muzică? Ce asculți? Cui nu-i place? Oricum, nu sunt ascultătoarea interesantă care cunoaște toți membrii grupului, cântăreții, discografia, etc. Îmi place foarte mult electro: clasici ca Justice, Daft Punk, tot de la Ekleroshock Records începând cu DatA - preferații mei. Sunt mult mai mulți, dar îmi e prea lene să verific playlist-ul, care vă asigur că este destul de caleidoscopic.
Ce îți place să faci în timpul liber? Mi-ar place să ies mai des la aer liber, în câmp deschis. Dar opțiunile într-un oraș mic sunt destul de limitate. Se mai întâmplă, dar nu atât de des pe cât mi-aș dori. Probabil mă voi muta înapoi într-un oraș mai mare în curând. De exemplu joc tenis, sau cel puțin încerc... Dar mă plictisesc destul de repede, se poate ca în câteva săptămâni să trec la altceva. Ce e important pentru tine? Îmi doresc cu ardoare să devin cea mai importantă persoană din viața mea. Ce vrei să mai obții? Toate realizările sunt încă pe drum. Care este ultima carte pe care ai citit-o/ cumpărat-o? Am cumpărat Ayn Rand - The Virtue of Selfishness, sper că mă va motiva și voi deveni mai egoistă. Ultima carte pe care am citit-o era despre marketing-ul în modă. Ce te-a atras cel mai mult către acest stile de viață/ muncă? Libertatea de a alege, o am, mai ramane doar să învăț să o folosesc eficient. Iar acum, lipsa unui program îmi este benefică, aș vrea să păstrez lucrurile cum sunt încă câteva săptămâni. Ceva în încheiere? Nu, nu încă.

A day in the life of... I don’t have a life pattern to follow, all is quite quiet nowadays but there’s no routine yet. It involves work, play, and all other regular stuff people do. What inspires you? Architects. I have a huge influence from these passionate workaholics. I love how dedicated they are for their work, and how highly they talk about it. I feel the same about design, but I would really like to achieve that complete dedication and become as hard working as they are. Any favourite artists? There are many, but to name a few Mario Hugo, James Jean, Josh Vanover, Sam Weber and going local I really like Matei Apostolescu’s work, he is constant and consistent. How do you see the future? Luckily, I cannot see it nor can I predict it. I prefer to manage my present, to achieve a past.
Do you like music? What’s your favourite? Who doesn’t? Anyway I am not a fancy listener that knows band members, singers discography, etc. I really like electro: classics like Justice, Daft Punk, everything from Ekleroshock records starting with DatA - my favourite. There are many others, I am to lazy to check my playlist but is quite kaleidoscopic, I can assure you. What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time? I would like to do more open air activities, but the options in a small city are limited. I do go, but not as much as I want to, that’s why I will probably move back to a big city soon. Now for instance, I play tennis, better said I try to... But I am not very constant in what I do, probably in a few weeks I will switch to something else. Who is important to you? I really want to become the most important person in my life. What do you still want to accomplish? All my accomplishments are still to come. What is the last book you bought/read? I bought Ayn Rand - The Virtue of Selfishness, hopefully will get me more motivated by becoming selfish.The last book I read was about fashion marketing. What do you like most about your work/way of life? Freedom of choice, I have it, just need to start using it more efficiently. And right now, the lack of a program is doing me good, I want to keep things as they are for a few more weeks. Any last thoughts? No, not yet.

Andrei: Spune-ne câteva lucruri despre tine. Cum ai început? Dragoș: Am început ca designer acum 7 ani pe forumul VisualArt.ro. Am învățat tot ce am putut de acolo și am contribuit cu câteva comentarii hazli. Câteva dintre primele mele proiecte au plecat de acolo. Acela a fost începutul carierei mele. Nu am participat la cursurile nici unei școli de design, iar tot ce știu acum, am învățat singur. Cu cât experimentez mai mult cu atât învăț mai mult, iar acesta este un proces fără sfârșit, pentru a deveni mai bun, pentru a învăța ceva nou și pentru a rămâne concentrat asupra lucrurilor care iți plac. Importantă e călătoria, nu destinația... Ce ai făcut în ultima vreme? Lucrezi la ceva anume? Sigur, mereu lucrez, totuși mereu mă joc - All Work and All Play :) Dar sunt destul de ocupat, mai mult proiecte online in ultimul timp. Un proiect personal: logodesigner.ro și un nou blog.
Ce te inspiră? Toate lucrurile în jur, cred. Reviste, cărți, internetul, oameni, povești, natura. Oriunde mă uit, caut ceva vizual care mă poate inspira. Aș putea găsi o soluție pentru o machetă doar privind strada. Inspirația e peste tot dacă știi unde și cum să privești lumea. Eu văd ce mulți oameni nu observa, iau acele lucruri și le amestec în ceva proaspăt. Forme, culori, idei sunt tot ce îmi trebuie pentru a lucra. Artiști favoriți? Nu doar artiști, dar și designeri și oameni pe care îi admir: Internaționali: Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Paula Scher, Stefan Sagmeister, Erik Spiekermann, Milton Glaser, Neville Brody, Michael C. Andrei: Tell us a bit about yourself: how did you start? Dragos: Well, I’ve started out as a designer about 7 years ago I think, on the VisualArt.ro Forum, learning as much as I could from that community and contributing with some silly comments. Some of my first designs were for projects started on that forum. That was the starting point of my career as a graphic designer. I never went to any design school and I am self-taught in graphic design, creative direction, typography, photography, etc. The more I experiment, the more I learn and this is an ongoing process, to be better at what you do, to learn everyday something new and stay focused on what you love to do. Important is the journey, not the destination, you know... What have you been up to recently: are you working on something? Sure, I am always working, but then again, I’m always playing AllWorkandAllPlay :) But yeah, I’m quite busy, working mostly online projects these days. Personal projects include logodesigner.ro and a new blog.
What inspires you? All the things around me I guess. Magazines, books, the Internets, people, stories, nature. Everywhere I look, I’m searching for something visual to inspire me. I might get an idea for a layout just from looking at the street. Very inspiring stuff everywhere if you know where and how to look at the world. I see the things most people don’t from all around and I take them and mix them up into something fresh. Form, colour, ideas are all I need to design. Any favourite artists? Not just artists but also designers and creative thinkers, I admire: International: Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Paula Scher, Stefan Sagmeister, Erik Spiekermann, Milton Glaser, Neville Brody, Michael C. DRAGOȘGAVRILĂ Cum vezi viitorul? Hmmmm, nu-l văd venind. “Life is like a box of chocolates...” Serios, pun răul în față și sper în bine. Ar trebui să faceți și voi la fel. Muzică? Ce asculți? Ascult tot felul de genuri. De curând foarte multa muzică electronică, dar și trip-hop, hip-hop, reggae și alternative rock. Îmi puteți vizita oricând profilul de pe last.fm last.fm/user/grafician, hehehe. Ce îți place să faci în timpul liber? Consider că design-ul e un stil de viață, asta e ce fac mai toată ziua și toată noaptea. Ziua lucrez pentru clienți în cadrul Sparkle Marketing, iar noaptea îmi dezvolt proiectele personale. De asemenea îmi place să desenez tipare și motive abstracte, găsesc asta foarte relaxant. Cum vor fi gata vi le voi arăta și vouă, deocamdată sunt doar niște linii din creion. Ce este important pentru tine? În primul rând Dumnezeu, apoi familia, prietenii și prietena mea desigur.
Ce vrei să mai obții? Cred că mai sunt multe de învățat despre design și în fiecare zi, cu fiecare proiect pe care am norocul să lucrez, încerc să îmi depășesc limitele, să îmi îmbunătățesc tehnicile. Îmi doresc să lansez câteva proiecte personale și să fiu recunoscut pentru asta, mai mult decât pentru munca creată pentru clienți, aceasta având tendința de a te limita de multe ori. Mai vreau să creez proiecte pentru Comunitatea Creativă Românească, să ajut atât de mult pe cât pot. Deoarece în Romania, design-ul este înca un subiect nou, lipsit de istorie, stil național, iar oamenii de rând încă nu au măcar un oarecare gust vizual, astfel orice proiect ce ar putea schimba asta este binevenit. Noi, în calitate de oameni de creație ar trebui să promovăm design-ul, ca acesta să fie înțeles și valorificat. Acesta este țelul nostru. Și cu toții ar trebui să conlucrăm în obținerea acestui deziderat. Care este ultima carte pe care ai citit-o/ cumpărat-o? Am “Wally Olins: The Brand Handbook” și “Alexey Brodovitch” de Gabriel Bauret, dar nu am avut ocazia de a le citi încă. Mă rog... Ce te-a atras cel mai mult către acest stil de viață/ muncă? Fac ceva ce îmi place și în același timp ceva ce este important pentru mine. Ca designer, om de creație, ajungi să cunoști mulți oameni minunați, construiești lucruri distractive și creative și îți trăiești viața așa cum îți dorești. Designer-ii sunt niște oameni tare norocoși :) Ceva în încheiere? Rămâi atent la ceea ce îți place, fă ce vrei și nu renunța niciodată. Vei reuși până la urmă. Vei fi fericit :)

Do you like music? What’s your favourite? I listen to all kinds of music. Recently, lots of electronic music, but also triphop, hip-hop, reggae and alternative rock. You can always visit my profile on last.fm – last.fm/user/grafician, hehehe. What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time? I consider design to be a lifestyle so I mostly design all day and almost all night - by day for commercial clients at the offices of Sparkle Marketing and by night for myself and my personal projects. Also I like to draw abstract patterns and motifs, I find this to be very relaxing. Will release some of them after I get some colors in there, now they’re just pencil artworks. Who is important to you? First there is God, then my family, friends and of course, my girlfriend :) What do you still want to accomplish? I think I have much more to learn about design and creative direction, so everyday I try to push myself, to improve my skills with every new project I am fortunate to work on. Then I would like to launch some personal projects as I said, to be known for my personal work rather then what I design for clients, because client work tends to be limited in so many ways, as we all know. I want also to create projects for the Romanian Creative Community, to help out as much as I can. Because in Romania, design is still a very recent topic, with almost no history and national style and regular folks still have no visual taste whatsoever, so any project that can change this status quo is welcomed. Our main goal as creatives should be to make design understood and valued here in Romania. We all need to work to accomplish this common goal.
What is the last book you bought/ read? Got “Wally Olins: The Brand Handbook” and “Alexey Brodovitch” by Gabriel Bauret, but haven’t had the chance to read them yet. Oh well... What do you like most about your work/ way of life? I get to do something I’m passionate about - design - and this is something very important for me. As a designer and creative, you get to know many wonderful people, build fun and creative things and live your life the way you want. Designers are some very lucky people :) Any last thoughts? Well, stay focused on what you love, do what you want and never give up. You will succeed eventually. You will be happy :)

EDUARDMUREȘAN Andrei: Spune-ne despre tine, cum ai început? Eduard: Ei bine, la început făceam ceva cu totul diferit. Dar eram cam plictisit, asta acum 9 ani și cum mi-a placut mereu să desenez, m-am gândit să încerc să-mi câștig pâinea astfel... Așa am început să învăț singur cum să folosesc calculatorul; trebuie să recunosc acum cât de amuzant era să lucrez cu Corel 4 și Photoshop 4. Și acum îmi aduce zâmbetul pe buze perioada respectivă. Dar a fost frumos și nu m-am mai plictisit de atunci. Ai mereu ceva nou de învățat și e o mare provocare să ții pasul cu toți tinerii ce incearcă să câștige din asta. Ce ai făcut de curând: lucrezi la ceva? Am chiar destule în față acum, în mare parte pentru print , dar și câteva pentru web. Sunt două proiecte care mi-au aprins călcâiele - două evenimente ce vor avea loc în București în toamnă la care tocmai am început să lucrez. Din păcate nu pot intra în detalii acum, dar veți afla de îndată ce pornesc. ;) O zi in viața... Hm, o zi normală începe pe la 8 dimineața... Din motive ce îmi scapă, e ora la care mă trezesc indiferent de cât dorm... Pe la 9.30/10 ajung la birou și încep să lucrez. De obicei dimineața mă ocup de partea administrativă, cum ar fi telefoane și e-mail-uri către clienți. Ora 14 e pentru masă. Apoi fuga la birou pentru lucruri serioase până la 18/ 19. Apoi se întamplă să mă mai opresc câteva ore prin oraș apoi acasă... Sfârșitul zilei înseamnă convorbiri cu clienții din State, care sunt cu 7 ore în urmă, iar atunci e cel mai bun moment să-i prinzi. Dar asta e doar o zi tipică. :)
Ce te inspiră? Aproape orice, fie un film bun sau o carte, un poster sau ceva pe stradă sau în parc. Realitatea e că nu poți inventa un design nou, toate sunt acolo, natura le-a creat deja. Trebuie doar să le observi și să le transpui într-o lumină diferită. Pentru mine asta e menirea unui designer. Pe de altă parte trebuie să recunosc că sunt un mare fan al Școlii Elvețiene, iar abordarea ei minimalistă m-a atras întotdeauna. Artiști preferați? Artiști... dacă vorbești de designeri atunci sunt: Josef Muller Brockmann, Paula Scher și cei de la Experimental Jetset. În fine, sunt prea mulți, dar pe aceștia îi admir. Dacă vorbești de artiști, cu lucrări în galerii, atunci Dali cu siguranța și caosul absolut al lui Jackson Pollock. Cum vezi viitorul? Încerc să nu mă gândesc prea mult la asta. Sunt lucruri de care mă bucur acum și mă concentrez asupra lor. Deși am o idee cum ar trebui să fie, cred că viitorul va fi un amestec al lucrurilor pe care mi le doresc și ceea ce e inevitabil. Oricum, cred că mai sunt lucruri interesante în față și provocări profesionale pe care sper să le depășesc cu bine.

But about 9 years ago I kinda got bored by what I was doing, and as I always liked to draw, I thought that I would give it a try and make a living out of it... So, I started learning on my own how to do this with a computer... I have to say it’s quite funny, to think that I was working with Corel 4 and Photoshop 4. And looking back on what I did around that time always makes me laugh. But it was lot of fun and I never got bored again since then. Always something new to learn and there’s a big challenge to keep up with all the young people trying to make it in this business. What have you been up to recently: are you working on something? Quite a few things on the plate right now, mostly for print and a bit of web. And two things that I’m quite excited about - two events in Bucharest this fall for which I am just starting to work. But I can’t get into details right now, I’ll let you know as soon as it’s on ;)
A day in the life of... Well, a typical day starts around 8 in the morning... Don’t know why but I wake up around that time no matter what time i go to sleep... Around 9:30-10 I get to the office and start working. Usually the morning is for more administrative things like phone calls with clients and emails. Around 2 o’clock it’s lunch time. And then back to the office for some actual work until around 6-7 in the evening. Later probably go out in the town for a couple of hours and then back home... The day usually ends by talking with clients from the States as they are 7 hours behind us and it’s the best time to get them on the line. That’s pretty much a typical day... but then again, there are also not so typical days :) What inspires you? Pretty much everything, from a movie or a good book to something I see in a poster on the street or just by walking though a park. The reality is that you can not invent new design, it’s all there, nature did it way before us. You just need to observe carefully and put it in a different light. To me, that’s what a designer should do. On the other hand I must say that I am really a big fan of swiss design and the simplicity of that always inspires me. Any favourite artists? Artists... if you by artists mean designers, then it’s Josef Muller Brockmann, Paula Scher and the guys over at Experimental Jetset. Well, many others as well but these are a few that I really admire. If your talking about artists in an art gallery way, I have to say I like Dali and the utter chaos of Jackson Pollock. How do you see the future? I try not to think that much about the future. There are things that I can enjoy now and I am trying not to think too much about what’s to come. But then again, I do have an idea about how I would like the future to be but in the end I think is going to be a mix between what I want and what is inevitable. Anyway, I think there are some interesting things ahead and some professional challenges which I hope to overcome.

Personal, sunt atras de zbor încă de mic, așa că mi-ar plăcea să obțin brevetul de pilot. Care e ultima carte pe care ai citit-o/ cumpărat-o? Charles Seife - Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea - nu are nimic de a face cu designul, dar este o carte bună. Ce îți place cel mai mult la munca/ stilul tau de viață? Nu mă plictisesc. Ai mereu ceva nou de făcut, mereu apar obstacole de depășit... Azi lucrez la ceva și am o idee despre ce trebuie făcut mâine, dar astea se pot schimba într-o clipă, iar eu trebuie să mă adaptez. Nu aș putea funcționa într-un sistem 9-5. Ceva la sfârșit? Hmm, sună atât de terminal :)) Nu îmi place, parcă nu ar mai rămâne nimic după. Să spunem că ținem legătura...

Do you like music? What’s your favorite? Music, that’s a big thing for me... listening to music from morning till evening every day. But to name a favorite band is very difficult because it all depends on the mood. I listen pretty much to everything from classical music to d’n’b and breakbeat. Right now I’m hooked to a french radio called Radio Nova. What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time? Spare time? What spare time :)) Seriously, when I get the chance, I try to go to the mountains and to relax. But unfortunately there are not too many occasions for that. Otherwise, it’s always good to read a book or just to enjoy a glass of wine in company of some friends. Who is important to you? Uh... I guess that my friends. And my dog :) What do you still want to accomplish? Professionally, I would love to pick the brains of some of the old school designers like Paula Scher, Bierut or David Carson. And to write a book. Personally, I have this thing with flying since I was little, so I wish to get a pilot license. What is the last book you bought/ read? Charles Seife - Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea - well, it has nothing to do with design but it’s a good book What do you like most about your work/ way of life?
