A Letter from the Mayor
Welcome to High Point, NC. High Point is not only the home furnishings capital of the world, but it’s also a diverse business community with industries ranging from manufacturing to biotech enterprises. High Point’s Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, the 37th largest metro area in the nation, is home to 1.6 million residents. This location is key to its success. High Point is nestled between Charlotte and Raleigh, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, and New York and Miami. From the majestic Great Smoky Mountains to the pristine beaches of the Outer Banks, North Carolina covers 503 miles long of some of the most beautiful terrain in the country. It is surrounded by an impressive transportation network including I-40, I85, I-73 and I-74 only minutes from Piedmont Triad International Airport.
The area thrives on its entrepreneurial spirit and because of this, new industries are always emerging. Most recently biotech, pharmaceutical, distribution and warehousing businesses have begun, giving High Point a well rounded industry portfolio for the new economy.
We have a rich history and partnership with our city’s university, High Point University. Whether you are attending the High Point Market, the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world; enjoying our signature John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival, playing your favorite sport in one of our local tournaments; or shopping in more than 100 furniture stores and outlets in the area, the activities and experiences do not stop there!
Enjoy our city and state and please, make yourself at home.

Welcome to High Point
Located in the Piedmont Triad, High Point is the only city to extend to four different counties in North Carolina! Being the ninth-largest city in the state, High Point is a city that people choose to live in, as it's centrally located and has so much to offer. Greensboro and WinstonSalem are just a 20-minute drive, and Charlotte or Raleigh is about an hour away. The city claimed its name because it was the highest point for the North Carolina Railroad allowing trade for goods and transportation.
The transformation of downtown High Point is underway due to an impressive collaborative effort of city government, many business and community leaders, Forward High Point, several benefactors, and master developer Elliott Sidewalk Communities. The High Point City Council established a strategic goal “to create a downtown catalyst project” to increase the commercial tax base and create a public gathering space – drawing residents and visitors year-round.
In three years that idea has gone from a vision to the opening of newly-built facilities. The anchor of activity within the redevelopment area is the City of High Point’s $36.1 million multi-use stadium, which opened in May 2019. The High Point Rockers professional baseball team calls that stadium home. The team belongs to the 21-year-old Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, which is an independent professional league. In addition to baseball, the stadium has been designed to accommodate soccer, football, and lacrosse. The multiuse stadium will also host concerts, festivals, and other community activities. The facility has seating for 4,400. With standing room, the stadium can accommodate more than 5,000 attendees.
Surrounding the stadium will be more than $80 million worth of newly-constructed properties – public plaza, offices, restaurants, retail shops, a hotel, an events center, children’s museum, residential properties, and mixed-use properties. High Point University President Nido Qubein has raised a considerable amount of money from philanthropic donors for many of those features.
