STUDY ABROAD

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

As globalization continues to blur geographic and cultural boundaries, a new world has begun to emerge. The faculty and staff at High Point University believe that global awareness and intercultural understanding are essential parts of higher education for today’s student. Therefore, the University encourages students to engage in academic study in a culturally-immersive setting away from one’s home culture and norms. Whether you are abroad for two weeks, two semesters or any length in between, studying abroad provides:

A growth mindset opportunity to: n Get outside your comfort zone and see a different perspective n Gain independence and selfconfidence n Become immersed in a different culture and learn to observe and adapt An academic opportunity to: n Complete courses toward your major, minor or general education requirements n Improve your foreign language skills

A professional development opportunity to: n Build intercultural sensitivity n Become globally competitive through transferrable skills such as cross-cultural communication and teamwork
