Another rock and raging night on the Sunset Strip, this time at the world famous Whisky A Go Go, featuring some of the finest talents our Los Angeles music scene has to offer. The entire evening was curated by Gwendolyn Casella, who would perform blazing lead vocals in not only her main band Bonnie Brae, but dyamic backup singing within the ranks of the headlining Six Gun Sal. Also joining in on the fun was The Guitar & Whiskey Club - and these trio of bands brought the party tenfold!
BONNIE BRAE
The first band Highwire Daze caught up with was Bonnie Brae, unleashing their own mesmerizing brand of hard rock and roll. Imagine a mixup of metal, sludge, and punk, and you are only just beginning to envision the captivating Bonnie Brae experience. Songs such as Three Strikes, UTN, Drug, and especially Slut will remain in your head for ages, all delivered with a ferocious intensity by the Bonnie Brae crew. Gwendolyn Casella unleashes a ferocious performance in Bonnie Brae, delivering the seething vocals and pounding a lone drum with a massive amount of intensity and conviction. Just as passionate in their live presentations are Bonnie Brae co-conspirators David Coltrane Levin on guitar, Derby on bass, and Scottie Carneghi on drums. Oh, and good freakin’ luck getting the wickedly wonderful chorus of Slut out of your head once you’ve heard it! Do not miss Bonnie Brae the next time they play here in LA or beyond - their songs and live shows are absolute fire!

And what an explosive rhythm section The Guitar & Whiskey Club possesses, courtesy of Frank Yanno on bass and Jason DAmelio on drums. The opening one-two punch of Flies Like Whiskey and The Sky Is Burning captured the audience’s attention in nothing short of an epic way. Sleazy is certainly a Sunset Strip rock anthem for the ages that was an infinite highlight. SIX GUN SAL
Six Gun Sal IS the future of Southern rock! Headlining The Whisky on the Sunset Strip to kick off the weekend, this Los Angeles based band delivered a mighty set of tunes that would do Lynyrd Skynrd and Molly Hatchet very proud. This amazing band knows how to deliver a memorable show filled with heart, soul, and great tunes! Amongst the standout songs within the Six Gun Sal set were Asphalt Cowboy, The Creek, and Whiskey Mountain - clearly demonstrating how effective Six Gun Sal is at delivering timeless Southern rock at its finest.
One big highlight of the set was their absolutely stunning rendition of the Nazareth hit Hair Of The Dog, with Six Gun Sal weaving their own spirited magic and intrigue into the song.
Anthony Appello is such a compelling front man in the classic Southern rock style, and really knows how to bring the audience in and make them feel like they are part of the show. Dusty Lang (rhythm guitar), Joey Durant (drummer), Matt Geinitz (bassist), Ed Fierro (lead guitar), and Silver Dawg (keyboards) are all outstanding musicians and really sent each and every tune into the rock and roll heavens. The backup vocals were a real treasure, featuring Mia Dunn and Bonnie Brae’s own Gwendolyn Casella unveiling sweet and gorgeous harmonies and nifty dance moves throughout.
Closing out the show with a fantastic song entitled Remember My Name, there is no doubt Six Gun Sal made a lot of lasting memories for the Whisky concert goers on a Friday night. Be sure to check out Rebels & Rogues, the latest Six Gun Sal album - and do not miss this band the next they bring their Southern rock extravaganza to your town! Thank you to Gwendolyn Casella for setting up this kickass show!
