Project Respect Outdoors

This issue, we chose to amplify, Project Respect Outdoors (PRO), a coalition of women and allies on a mission to bring respect into the outdoor industry. Founded by female business owners from Sēkr and Basecamp Outdoor who were tired of being objectified and underestimated by their male colleagues in the outdoor industry. They aim to make the outdoor industry a more inclusive space for all womxn.

But PRO isn’t just about gender, it’s about bringing awareness of shared experiences as women business owners, non-profit leaders, and grassroots change makers, and taking action, at scale, to evolve the outdoor industry. Project Respect Outdoors is here to lift up fellow sisters and shake the “bro culture/boys club” out of the outdoor industry.

What is PRO doing?

PRO is going to be the change that the Outdoor industry needs. How will they do this? With your help! And through activations like:

Data driven content to raise awareness.

Resources to empower women in the workplace, on the trail, or anywhere outdoors.

Workshops Affinity spaces.

Events Reporting Tool for anonymous tips on people and businesses who need to be called in.

Note: PRO believes in calling people in before calling people out so we allow for growth and change.

PRO Business Certification to identify & audit outdoor companies who are committed to equity and respect for all.

Want to share your own story?

Add your voice (anonymously). Just one story can show another woman she is not alone. Just one story can inform a decision maker what is going on in their industry. Just one story can start a movement. Case in point - a single story started PRO. PRO is seeking stories from women who experienced harm in the outdoor industry. Examples may range from a sexist remark you’re still seething about to an abuse that changed the way you navigate your world. Nothing is too big, or too small.

Follow PRO at www.projectrespectoutdoors.com and share your story.
