Birth

ď‚– John Curtin was born on January 8, 1885 in Creswick. His father came from Irish decent and was a police officer. His mother stayed at home everyday to look after him. He was then named John Ambrose Joseph Curtin. However later on in life Curtin dropped the middlename Ambrose as well as leaving the Catholic faith.


Family   John’s father was a police officer.  John’s mother looked after him.  Both his parents encouraged him in striving to become a politician. Though they knew his chances were low, due to the lack of lots of money. They encouraged him to try and try again. His father got the newspaper for John everyday and John then after years of reading newspapers started his own newspaper company.


Family ď‚– Because his father was a police officer John was quickly introduced into law and very quickly learnt what the laws were, how the government works and so on. Though John loved politics and law, he also loved to play football. From 1903-1907 he played for the Brunswick Football Club.


Schooling ď‚– John Curtin only attended school until age 14, from then on he worked for the Creswick newspaper company. He had always dreamed of becoming a politician and enjoyed reading newspapers to keep up with the political and financial subjects of Australia.


As A Teenager  At the age of 14, John was very interested in the Victorian Socialist Party and the Labor party. After working for a newspaper company Curtin decided to make his own newspaper named “Jack Curtin.”
