Espanol art leaves a magnifico legacy for the artistic world
El Greco (1541-1614) He was called the greatest mannerist, from Crete, and his real name was Domenicos Theotokopoulos. His paintings were influenced by the mysticism of the Counter-Reformation. They symbolized passion and restraint, and religious fervor and Neo-Platonism all at the same time.
Diego Velázquez (1599-1660) An individualist artist from Seville in the contemporary baroque period. He was a leading artist in the court of King Philip IV. Velázquez did many portraits and renditions of cultural and historical importance.
Francisco de Goya El hombre thought of as the most important artist of the late 19th century went from happy, jolly art to pessimistic and searching. He did paintings, etchings, drawings, and frescoes. He reached his ‘artistic maturity’ during the time of enlightenment.
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Picasso was regarded as the most innovative artist of the century. His works of art range from ceramics, stage design, graphic arts, mosaics, sculpture and others, totaling at about 22,000 pieces. He was a very influential artist and the creator of Cubism.
