HILL WEST SPORT Summer 2016 The summer term at Hill West has been an incredibly busy one for sportsrelated activities. Year 1 have taken part in a mini athletics tournament at Arthur Terry, Year 4 and Year 1 have had tennis coaching and Year 4 have also had coaching with Warwickshire Cricket club. The highlight of the term, however, has to be sports day, which was a very successful event enjoyed by teachers, parents and staff.
Sports Day This year, we managed to dodge the horrible, rainy weather (just!) and had a fantastic day of sports. Key Stage 2 had most of the sun in the morning and enjoyed cheering on their house teams.
Well done Pankhurst!
Key Stage 1 also had a really successful sports day and managed to complete all their events before the heavens opened. The overall winners of Sports day this year was Pankhurst, with 195 points.
Year 6 Football Team The Year 6 Football Team managed to win their semi-final in the Sutton Cup in order to reach the final. This is the furthest that the school has reached in a while and a fantastic achievement for the 10 boys that represented the school. The final was played at Sutton Town Football club, against New Oscott. The Hill West team showed a fantastic attitude towards the match and there was plenty of supporters kitted out with flags and banners!

Unfortunately for Hill West, New Oscott dominated the match from the start and despite the efforts from the Hill West team, they could not break down the New Oscott defence. A fantastic effort from the whole team who finished as runners-up.
Pupil Spotlight Hi! My name is Tom and I enjoy running and any other athletic related sports. Outside of school, I run for Royal Sutton Coldfield athletics club, entering a variety of different competitions. I also enjoy playing football and play as a striker for Colron Boys U10 and I like playing in 7-a-side matches. Next season, we get to move to 9-a-side games which means that I get to play on a bigger pitch! I like sport because it keeps you fit and healthy and if you like being competitive, you should consider having a go!
Other Sporting News! Rotary Football Tournament The Year 6 football team enjoyed entering this year’s rotary football tournament and competing against a range of Sutton Schools. They managed to reach the final and finished as runner-ups. A big well done to all children who represented Hill West. Sainsbury’s Voucher Scheme From the Sainsbury’s vouchers we collected last year, we brought some street and hip-hop sessions for Year 4 and Year 6. They were fantastic and both year groups really enjoyed learning a new routine. Thank you for collecting all of the vouchers and please continue to do so - they really benefit our school! Wariwckshire Cricket Club Year 4 had the opportunity to work with Warwickshire cricket club as part of their curriculum lessons. They even got to have a lesson with Tammy Beaumont from the England ladies cricket team!
