HCW UPDATE - Dickens on Main and Weihnachts Parade CANCELED

Mayor Tim Handren announced today that both city-sponsored holiday events have been canceled.

Dickens on Main announced earlier this month that was to be held on November 28 and December 5, and the annual Weihnachts Parade was originally planned for Dec. 5 -- neither of these events will go on as scheduled.

“As stated from the beginning, we were hopeful to be able to hold our holiday events knowing that many look forward to them. However, the health and safety of our community will always come first,” Mayor Tim Handren said.

Working together, our community partners have been watching the COVID-19 numbers locally and across the region closely. Out of an abundance of caution, city leadership decided the risk of continuing with the events did not outweigh the benefits.

“While it saddens me to make this decision, it is unfortunately the most prudent option for us to take. I applaud the work our city staff did to reimagine a scaled-down Dickens on Main this year in an attempt to make it as safe as possible,” Handren said. “The spread of COVID is increasing and it would not be appropriate to host events that bring 10,000-15,000 people into a compact area.”

While the official city-sponsored events have been canceled for 2020, we are still encouraging our residents to visit the Hill Country Mile and beyond to enjoy the lights and atmosphere and visit Boerne’s boutiques, breweries, and restaurants for a safe shopping experience.

The city is partnering with a vendor to enhance the holiday ambiance by adding outdoor holiday music on select weekends for people to enjoy as they walk from store to store.

The Hill Country Mile will still be beautifully decorated and covered in festive lights for the Christmas season, making it the perfect small-town picturesque venue to shop, dine and spend time with family.
