Mass Vaccination Drive
Boerne, Kendall County successfully host first-ever mass vaccination drive For the first time in recorded history, the City of Boerne, Kendall County and several community partners including, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, My Urgent Care and the Kronkosky Senior Center successfully hosted its first-ever mass vaccination drive. Friday’s event in the 9,000 sq./foot Cana Ballroom at St. Peter’s allowed 600 people to receive first-doses of the Moderna vaccine to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also the first time Kendall County utilized its Points of Dispensing unit. Volunteers, which included, church, city, and county staff, arrived around 7:30 a.m. All volunteers were also provided a COVID-19 test beforehand and were required to test negative. After a brief invocation from Father Norm Ermis – people got to work. minutes explaining how the event would run and what each group was expected to do. The first appointments were not scheduled until 9 a.m., but people began showing up 30 minutes early and were able to come inside and not wait in the freezing temperatures. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus, there were drivers in golf carts, with blankets driving around and picking up at their cars to shuttle them to the front doors. Upon arrival everyone received a temperature check and confirmed their appointments. It was a well-oiled machine from the start and at one point 135 people were vaccinated in 50 minutes. By 2 p.m., all scheduled appointments were filled, and vaccines provided. The state of Texas updates its COVID-19 vaccine allocations list every Friday afternoon and the city is prepared to host additional events and we remain
committed to being able to administer more than 1,000 shots a day if allocated additional vaccines. Below is list of all the departments and entities that assisted in today’s vaccination drive: Paramedic students from UT-Health San Antonio. Fair Oaks Police Department, Boerne Police Department, Boerne Fire Department, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Kendall County Constables Office, Kendall County EMS, Kendall County Emergency Management. City of Boerne Departments: Visitors Center, Finance, Library, Information Technology, Utilities Customer Service, Parks and Recreation, Special Projects. Meals were provided by the Kendall County Commissioners and the City of Boerne. Cana Ballroom facility support provided entirely by St. Peter’s staff and volunteers.
