PARENT AND STUDENT GUIDELINES In order to create a deeper understanding and appreciation of Drama or to personally develop your acting skills further, the Performing Arts Department has the following on offer for those students who would like to pursue Drama as a cocurricular activity.

Years 5-6 class on a Monday afternoon between 3.10 and 4.10pm: students are taught foundational skills in acting, speech and communication and are better equipped to use their bodies (their ‘instrument’) to communicate confidently and truthfully. These classes can be used as preparation for local Eisteddfods and AMEB Examinations. Classes are held in our purpose built Black Box theatre (Drama Studio).

Years 7-12 classes on a Wednesday afternoon between 3.10 and 4.10pm: students are taught skills in clowning, improvisation and performance based on the European clowning tradition of Jacques le Coq and Philippe Gaulier with the elements of drama and conventions of clown. The material developed in these classes can be used towards performances at local Festivals, Eisteddfods and AMEB Examinations. Classes are held in our purpose built Black Box theatre (Drama Studio).

Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 12 students.

Presentations: At the end of each Term, students will be given an opportunity to present their performance pieces to parents/ carers and friends.

SPEECH AND DRAMA (YEARS K – 12) •

Classes can be individual or small group lessons, available for all Year Levels. The program is designed to build confidence and to suit the student’s specific needs, talent and interest. All Early Years Speech and Drama students are encouraged to participate in the Somerset Festival for Young Performers in individual, pairs or small group sections. All Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts and the Gold Coast Eisteddfod.

Students who complete AMEB examinations in Voice and Communication or Drama and Performance in Fifth Grade or above while in Years 11 or 12, are able to have their results recorded on their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT Students must comply with all college values and policies at all times. Parents will be advised if there are any concerns, either by the Tutor or by the Administrator.

ATTENDANCE Please make contact with the respective administrator via email to give notification of a student’s absence. Please note there are no make-up lessons for lessons missed.
