Corrodere Academy announce new Corrosion Under Insulation course

Corrodere Academy offer globally recognised qualifications in the protective coatings industry including Train the painter, coating inspector and specialist courses. This new addition to the specialist course range is available through their online learning platform and accredited by Lloyd’s Register.

The importance of managing corrosion under insulation

Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) is defined as corrosion of a steel structure such as pipes, vessels, low alloy, austenitic stainless steel, or tanks fabricated from carbon. CUI occurs underneath insulation or fireproofing due to the permeation of moisture or water.

CUI is a well known and widespread corrosion phenomenon in the oil & gas and petrochemical industries, because of the use of many insulated structures which are exposed to variable corrosive environments.

Virtually every process plant with insulated or fireproofed structures will have CUI. The extent it will depend upon the management and inspection control and the repair and rectification process of the plant during operation and shutdown.

The course will provide students with industry knowledge on CUI and how to manage it with specific inspection and detection methods.

CUI is very expensive and it is estimated that between 40-60% of piping maintenance costs are related to CUI. Undetected, it can lead to leaks, potential explosions and serious environmental implications.

This training course has been developed by industry experts and offers an insight into corrosion, corrosion under insulation, fireproofing, inspection and management of assets.

The course will provide students with industry knowledge on CUI and how to manage it with specific inspection and detection methods. It will also provide training on the insulation and coating systems used for the protection of structures and the specific testing of products.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course would be hugely beneficial to the following: Corrosion Engineers, Designers of Plant and Equipment, Coatings Inspectors, Insulation Inspectors, Pipeline Inspectors, Asset Integrity Personnel, Painting Contractors, NDE Personnel, Fabric Maintenance Personnel, Plant Maintenance Personnel, Suppliers of Insulation Materials, Suppliers of Coating Materials and personnel who have an interest in CUI.
