Dynamic Contour Detection

Programming-free coating of any shape! Gema degradation whilst it is in transit. The powder pumps, ducting, cyclone and hoses are modelled using the latest fluid dynamic software which keeps the powder in ‘tip top’ condition.

The second generation of Dynamic Contour Detection detects the object contour fully automatic and positions the guns individually even for thin objects and at high conveyor speeds. Due to the programming-free adaption of all relevant line settings the application range is significantly extended.

The Gema OC06 All in One Powder Center keeps the powder flowing accurately and allows the reclaimed powder to be dosed back into the main feed tank (OptiSpeeder) with incredible accuracy to maintain a consistent blend of virgin and reclaimed powder. This keeps the finish uniform. The Gema OptiCenter also has a facility to adjust the blend ratio of reclaimed powder which is particularly advantageous when processing metallic powders. The cleanliness of every Gema OptiCenter is a primary benefit and the inbuilt filtration system ensures the unit operates under a high negative pressure, keeping all powder spills within the confines of the enclosure. This negates the need for external doors which are fitted on other systems, which means all the features for the operators and maintenance technicians are easily accessible at any time.

The Magic Compact Gema booth has four automatic GA03 guns fitted, two on each side of the booth to accurately coat the parts suspended on the overhead track. A manual gun is also fitted at the exit side of the booth which allows operators to manually touch-in complex parts. All the coating guns have the ‘precise charge control’ and ‘Direct Valve

Control’ features built in. This means a superior finish is achieved with the minimum over application of powder.

To comply with the ATEX and Health & Safety regulations, Gema systems are supplied with a zone map and fire suppression and detection equipment. Separate to the automatic booth, a smaller open fronted Classic Gema booth is also fitted in the conveyor line. This booth includes an offline manual OptiPro coating gun and allows for parts to be coated in very small batches without having to change the colours on the main line. This feature helps maintain a high level of production.

Brian Alexander, Quality Manager at Datalec, has shared his thoughts on the new system purchased from Gema. “Making the change from using multiple outsourced suppliers to creating an in-house powder coating facility required a detailed business plan. After a thorough evaluation we selected GEMA given their extraordinary reputation together with an impressive operational capability relating to useability, scalability, and reliability. The plant has been fully operational for only a few months but has already proven to be a great investment for us. Our powder coating facility is highly sustainable, efficient and enables us to responsively deliver results to the same exacting standards and quality assurance we are already known for.”
