COMPLEXITY

OF STREETWEAR Sophia Dafnis

"Streetwear is a style of casual clothing which became global in the 1990s. It grew from New York hip hop fashion and Californian surf culture to encompass elements of sportswear, punk, skateboarding and Japanese street fashion."

"This style has been one that’s fascinated me for years and makes me feel the most comfortable wearing. It also makes me feel cool when I go out and about"

The style is an accurate representation of the urban environments that teenagers use to hang-out with friends and be social together.

The outfits commonly center around casual, comfortable pieces such as jeans and cargo trousers, T-shirts and hoodies, baseball caps, and sneakers

Logos of different streetwear brands are often found on many pieces of clothing –predominantly T-shirts and hoodies, and are usually large so can be easily spotted and recognised. Some streetwear pieces revolve around the logos of different music bands of all genres.

"Streetwear is a style of clothing that I am loving as I really am obsessed with all the layering of different materials and all the jewellery that gets added to pull the outfit together."
"I love how streetwear fashion is a combination of clothes but also how accessories play a crucial part. Without accessories the outfits wouldn’t feel very streetwear to me"
