Simple or Complex

I read this book about a year ago and I thought it had a lot of personality for a classic novel with an easy-to-understand story. It contains themes of aestheticism, known more simply as 'art for art's sake', which I found interesting with how it contrasts with modern art and music today. Everything now has to have a deep and psychological meaning to be valued as art, but I enjoy how some art can be praised for aesthetic beauty alone.

I’ve recently been obsessed with an indie band called The Sukis and I also enjoy Taylor Swift and the Arctic Monkeys. I tend to prefer music with a strong bass line as I love how I can physically feel the music. In contrast to what I've just said about aestheticism, I am very much a lyrics person when it comes to songs in that I like to analyse what is being sung. I can also play the violin and the piano, but I prefer to listen to music rather than perform it. The feeling from just listening to music is very different.

Naturally, I am quite an argumentative person and I really like to debate, so I thought taking politics would help me develop these skills. I also chose it since my view is that if you look at the world and don't like the way it is being run, if you disapprove of the policies in place and believe people are being treated incorrectly, then you must be proactive to change it.

I think the environment is really important and is overlooked in modern day politics as well. As an individual there is only so much you can do to help, larger corporations are the ones to be held responsible for such concerns. However, one way I am planning on helping the environment as an individual is that I am considering going vegetarian or vegan when I go to university to do my part to reduce the CO2 consumption.

I do like to research plants in my spare time, and I also own a lot of house plants, about twelve or thirteen. I like to take cuttings from them and pot them so I can watch them grow.

I do enjoy painting and drawing in my free time, though I don’t do it often. I think I like painting specifically because it feels therapeutic to move a brush across paper or a canvas.

When I do paint, I tend to stick to landscapes as I find it interesting to figure out how to replicate large areas on a 2-dimensional surface.
