The Golf Island Emerges as 2023 PGA Tour Epicenter

PGA TOUR players and fans alike have always loved The Sea Pines Resort’s famed Harbour Town Golf Links and the eminently enjoyable RBC Heritage by Boeing TOUR stop. And the long-time tournament venue was rewarded for its popularity as TOUR officials announced it will be one of 13 “Elevated Events” on the 2023 calendar year schedule. Also joining the RBC Heritage via the recent announcement were the WM Phoenix Open, the Wells Fargo Championship, and the Travelers Championship.

What is an Elevated Event?

In addition to the four majors, the three FedEx Cup Playoffs venues, the three invitationals (Genesis, Arnold Palmer and Memorial), the Players Championship, WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, and the Sentry Tournament of Champions, these “final four” will feature a larger purse -- $20 million – and stronger field. Two of them, including the RBC Heritage, immediately follow a major. In the RBC’s case, of course, it’s the Masters, so expect a caravan of the game’s top players making the 2.5-hour drive south from Augusta, GA.

“I’m like a kid in a candy store to be honest with you,” Steve Wilmot, the RBC Heritage tournament director, told the Beaufort Gazette and Island Packet following the formal announcement. “It’s a true complement to our community and our tournament.”

So, expect to see big names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIllroy, and Jon Rahm on America’s Golf Island in April as the best players in the world compete for a pursue that’s double the 2022 amount. For have clubs, will travel golfers planning their spring golf trips, it’s just another reason to book a golf buddies, family or couples trip to Hilton Head Island, Bluffton or Beaufort. In addition to Harbour Town, Sea Pines Resort houses two other outstanding, tournament-caliber layouts: Heron Point by Pete Dye and Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III.
