The URBAN FARM where better city meets natural life”, has been the core idea throughout the design. A green urban valley complex with a ‘street landscape park’ as a highlight in the architectural space, is sitting right above one of the most used metro stations in Shanghai. Merging nature with human activity, the complex encloses various commercial facilities through a roof of cascading terraces and slopes topped with trees and other types of greenery. This project won the ‘shopping – completed buildings’ category at the 2018 world

The 20,000m sq green valley complex, designed with the URBAN FARM concept of merging nature and human space, weaves its way into the daily life of city dwellers through the intelligent roof geometry. The ‘roof’ is splitted into different scales and connected in various heights, where interesting terraces and slopes outdoor are connected in a 3D way, responding to the architectural functions below and human activities within it. shanghai development projects typically involve one dominant large box built within a single urban division, into which the shops are then arranged,’. ‘however this design is based upon the underground station, greenery was added to the roofs of the terraced commercial facility. this created a valley of green. as the slope takes on a rising form from directions near the station, the view extends as far as the eye can see.’

The weaving pathways in the Urban Farm are designed along the function flow and smoothly weaving themselves into various parts of the architectural space. Green roofs, office entrances, retail shops and public-transportation spots are connected in a joyful 3 dimensions. It generates comfortable access within the nature, and also ensures the sky light and green space smoothly merge into the activity zones.

•In addition, the URBAN FARM is defined as a TOD project (Transit Oriented Development), with all the functions: Retail, Office and Service Apartment smoothly connected by public transportation. •It makes every place within walking distance while creating a new value of developing the urban network, in the rapid development in Shanghai.

the three buildings that emerge from the green landscape – two office ones and the SOHO building – along with other places where people congregate, such as station entrances and exits, are placed separated from each another and connected with semi-outdoor walkways. each of their façades has been designed to encourage people to walk around the entire park through changes in the layering of natural ventilation louvers and aluminum shade fins.

Aims of project • To create a bit green space where animals and humans can live together. •No public space was there. The space was surrounded by large Buildings

Initial site

Proposed site

All the shops are connected to the nature via roofs and indoor spaces are connected

The normal scenario where the green area are either beside or between the buildings

But in this concept Green Space are merged with architecture and

urban space

The architectural space adapts nature’s own cooling system to counteract the heat-island effect, refreshing not only the city’s but also the social environment. Together with our architecture, and the large-scale green landscape, the refreshing environment ensures our Urban Farm is the one of the most popular space right in the heart of Shanghai.
