October treated our division well as we prepared for Fall Rally South and had another successful DCM where we decided on a new remix to the “How Do You Feel?” cheer. It’s great there was such a large turnout, and we hope you join us again for November’s DCM on the tentative date of November 12th. Remember that by attending events you win “killer points” that support a friendly competition between the schools in our division. Buena High School from Ventura is currently in the lead! Also in November will be the much anticipated Fall Rally South. On November 19th hundreds of Key Clubbers from California, Nevada, and Hawaii will make their way to Magic Mountain for fun times, for the thrill of rollercoasters and joy of amusement, and for the exciting rally itself! Contact your school’s Key Club leaders, Linda Taing, April Zavala or Brian Gialketsis for specifics, or simply turn to pages six and seven for some details on the rally and on the purpose for the rally, the Pediatric Trauma Program. The Pediatric Trauma Program aims to cut down preventable deaths of children under 14 by educating the public about proper treatment of children. Hopefully everyone is getting used to his school schedule and is having a great year so far. Have a happy Halloween, and be safe while Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF or for tasty candy. With Thanksgiving approaching I think we should also appreciate how lucky we all are throughout the month of November and celebrate by attending Fall Rally!
What a nice turn out! At the October DCM, a little over 20 people attended from 5 of our schools. Once everyone arrived, the meeting kicked off with an ice breaker - the name game. This allowed everyone to be at least familiar with each other's names which is always the first stage of great friendships. After we did two rounds around the circle, we continued with the meeting which extended in time with the Fall Rally preparation. With everyone contributing to different aspects of the "How Do You Feel?" cheer, we were able to come up with a splashing remix. Below is the new remix for our division. When the meeting was adjourned, everyone got to enjoy a slice or two of Little Caesar's pizza and a few chocolate drop cookies! To use up the remaining time of the DCM, we played several ice breakers - I Love My Neighbor, Mafia, Telephone, etc. Everyone had loads of fun, which resulted in the DCM ending a little later than planned. We hope that those who attended enjoyed their time and will return to the next one in November!
REMIX:
"How do you feel??"
“I feel good, oh I feel so good, UHHH. I feel fine, all of the time, Abooga, abooga, abooga booga booga.” "Remix!" "Hold up, wait a minute! Orcas swimmin' here in spirit! Ooohwuaa. Pssssh!" Attend the next DCM or ask an October DCM attendee to learn the hand gestures.
KILLER POINTS Attend division events and perform tasks listed in the chart below to win “killer points!” The name killer points comes from our division mascot the orca, also known as the killer whale! These points support friendly competition between the clubs in our division and are intended to promote member participation. Don’t you want to beat the other schools so you have awesome bragging rights? Right now Buena members are on top, but can they keep their position as number one?
Get your friends to come to events such as the DCM!

Unintentional injury is the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S.
Unintentional injury kills more children every year than any other cause - including disease, homicide and suicide!
90% of these unintentional injuries can be PREVENTED! Recognizing the serious need for education and training in the areas of pediatric trauma and injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) in 1994. Our mission is to develop local projects, which will reduce the number of children in our district who are killed or injured by trauma. Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our partner hospitals, the Foundation identifies projects the Kiwanis family can undertake to address the issue of Pediatric Trauma within their own communities. The Foundation's partnership with children's hospitals in Oakland, San Diego, Loma Linda, Madera, Honolulu and Reno connect the Kiwanis family to the issue of Pediatric Trauma. The Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation works closely with our partner hospitals to provide funding to train pediatric doctors, nurses and first responders, to purchase much-needed pediatric medical equipment and to create or expand community outreach programs. All of this is only possible due to the generous support of our clubs and members. Donations earmarked for PTP are spent in three major areas: grants to our partner hospitals; grants to Kiwanis and Service Leadership Program clubs; and PTP safety items which are available for purchase by the Kiwanis family at a subsidized cost. Your club can help prevent unintentional injuries in your community by sponsoring a service project on topics such as, Bicycle Safety, Bicycle Safety Helmets, Booster Seats, Child Abuse Prevention, Child Passenger Safety, Child Safety, Child Safety Seats, Children's Miracle Network, Fire Prevention, First Aid and CPR, Home Safety, Immunizations, Injury Prevention, Pediatric Trauma, Playground Safety, Poison Prevention, Safety Belts, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Smoking Awareness and Water Safety.
Due to the District's massive size, two Fall Rallies are held each year; one in Northern California at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, one in Southern California at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Thousands of members gather at each of the two theme parks on their selected day, one in October, one in November. At Fall Rally North and South, LTGs and Executive officers are "auctioned" off to Divisions; the winning Division is able to then spend a designated period of time with the "purchased" officer. Auction funds and a portion of the ticket sales for both events go towards the Pediatric Trauma Program.ds
